Clarissa Lawrence lives in a world of talking unicorns, djinn who grant wishes, and sirens who seduce with their voice. But not all magic is rainbows and sunshine. Magic comes with a price, every favor requires one in return, and bargaining with a Fae might cost a witch her soul.It was bad enough when the Raven Queen wanted to snatch Clarissa and use her for her unique magical powers. Now that … Now that Clarissa has been drained of magic, the Raven Court should have lost interest in her. Yet, not only do they persist, but Clarissa has attracted the attention of other Fae houses.
Clarissa needs to regain her powers to protect herself and her students, but if she does, she might be leaping out of the cauldron and into the fire. When assistance comes in the form of a handsome Fae prince of the Silver Court, Clarissa doesn’t know if the favor is a blessing or a curse.
If she accepts help from a Fae enemy to solve her problems, she might lose her soul in the process. If she doesn’t, Clarissa and her students might end up dead.

Never have I read anything that reminded me so much of ‘Harry Potter’, until now!! Witchy. Whimsical. Magical. Absolutely magnificent!
‘My Crazy Hex Boyfriend’ came to life for me! I love how the author calls this a not-so-cozy witch mystery. That is spot on! The story contained so much action and scenarios, I was shook! The writing was extremely clear- seeing the scenery being described was like watching a yellow brick road unfold. You could just see and almost smell the aromas and visualizations being stewed before us. I literally had the best time envisioning the scenery! The magic was so lively and always kept you on your toes. The writing was extremely well done! Very engaging.
The characters, relationships, and magic are all something I am now very invested in. One of the characters highly reminds me of Professor Snape- from Harry Potter. Since Professor Snape is one of the author’s favorite characters and mine, I highly enjoyed what I felt like was her version of Snape. Changing characters, for the first time ever a Fae or fairy will have you be it, was my favorite character. I never like how fairies are portrayed, but this one is very different!
Here I go, getting myself into trouble again- falling in love with a SERIES. This is book #8 in the series, I have never read any of this author’s previous works before. I downloaded this e-book and another one of Sarina’s works while they were free on Amazon so I could test out a new author. I would say these could be read as a stand-alone. I was not confused about jumping into book #9 blindly, I do think it would just be more fun, but not necessary to read them in chronological order. I am happy to say I also signed up for the author’s mailing list. Clearly, I think this book to be a huge success and it deserves all the praise!!
Sarina Dorie is an excellent author of the magical realm. I got so much out of this story in less than 300 pages. I honestly would like to purchase the whole series in hardbacks. It isn’t too short like most books, or too long, it was action-packed, contained a lot of characters but was so well written there wasn’t anything I didn’t understand- it is all explained! I just absolutely loved this! And the cover art is very gorgeous! I will gladly have this series on my bookshelf in due time. Expects photo ops of these books, everyone! 🙂
I really enjoyed this book. It is a wonderful balance of humor, adventure, action and magic. This is the eighth book in the series and the story keeps growing and getting better with each book. I am looking forward to the next book.
Review: My Crazy Hex-Boyfriend by Sarina Dorie [4s, New-adult, school, PNR and other types of love, Fae Court and other PN politics.]
As we can see, if readers have read this far into this series, it has become somewhat of a PN soap opera. The characters grow and we learn more about them through their interactions with each other. We see other settings within the Womby story-verse and this world becomes more detailed for readers. The author does, I think, an excellent job of showing the action and settings while remaining consise in this character-driven story series. I used author copy (to be able to usee TTS for Andriod) of amazon purchase for this review.
***Vague spoilers ahead***
In this episode, Clarissa is pulled between her wants and needs by a bargin with Elric of the Silver Court (part 1), along with how this affects others around her. Concepts of sharpening discernment skills, emotional vulnerability, love of various kinds and duty play key roles. She also learns more about the strengths and pitfalls of her affinity and abilities, both as a person and magically. Fae nature and their capacity for cruelty along with Witchkin/Fae/ Human dynamics are now first-hand lessons learned far better than from any book. Will she become a slave to her affinity along with the Silver Court? Can she take what she has learned from past relationships without tainting her current ones?
This was fun and crazy! I loved the feeling of not knowing what was going to happen! Kept me on the edge of my seat!
Book 8 is about Clarissa’s further adventures as a witchkin without magic, but having a powerful affinity. I’ve really enjoyed this series. It is filled with humor, wonderful characters, witty dialog, and interesting situations. It would be best to start with Tardy Bells and Witches’ Spells: A Cozy Witch Mystery (Womby’s School for Wayward Witches Book 1), and read them in order. A lot of background and character development is in them that will greatly enhance the enjoyment of this book. Plus they are quite enjoyable on their own! Clarissa is still attracted to Derrick, hoping to cure him of the Raven Queen’s magic. She still has very mixed emotions about Felix Thatch, oscillating between love and hate. Now she is being courted(!) by a powerful Fae, Elric, Prince of the Silver Court, who seems to love her for her own unmagical, but artistic, self. Who will finally win her heart?
