When the topic of grandchildren comes up during a weekly sewing circle the matriarchs of the founding families seek out the witch Elder to scry to see if their sons have mates. They are shocked to discover that many of their son’s mates are out in the world and are human!
Fearing that their future human daughter in laws will end up dead before being claimed and providing them with grandchildren … grandchildren to spoil, they convince their own mates that something must be done. After gathering all of the warriors together in a fake award ceremony the witch Elder casts a spell to pull the warrior’s mates to them, whether they want it or not.
Aiden McKenzie is adamant that he doesn’t need a mate and that she would only get in the way. He doesn’t have time to coddle a female. He likes his world run with military precision. Little does he realize, Fate is sending him his mate first! He meets his destined mate Meryn Evans and things go downhill from there. She is the embodiment of chaos. In the first twenty-four hours she kicks, screams and knocks her bear shifting mate unconscious.
Eventually they discover that life before finding each other may have been good, but life afterwards is perfect, even if it involves super soaker battles and accidentally discharging hand grenades.
Unfortunately the joy of their mating is overshadowed when Aiden and Meryn find themselves embroiled in a missing persons case assigned to Aiden by the Lycaonian Council. By assisting Aiden, Meryn finds herself the focus of a demented killer.
Can Aiden and the elite warriors from the Alpha Unit keep Meryn safe? Or did Fate bring her to Lycaonia to die?

This is the start of Alanea’s World and I wish I could move there!
My God I freakin’ loved this book. My Commander has to be one of the funniest books, I have read in a really long time. This book was hilarious. Like I was losing it, laughing so hard, tears ran down my face, and twice I had a hard time catching my breath, hilarious! I loved everything about this book. Low on drama, and angst. I loved the paranormal world it built, loved the plot, all the secondary characters, and I really loved Meryn and Aiden!
Aiden was everything you want in a shifter mate. Sexy, kick butt, protective, possessive, and completely devoted to his mate. Though Aiden is rough around the edges, and has no clue how to be in a relationship or deal with a woman, he has a very sweet side. Aiden strikes fear into the hearts of all, but to Meryn he is just a big growly teddy bear.
Meryn was my favorite character of the whole book. I loved Meryn so much. She was quirky, geeky, and eccentric. Meryn had no fliter on her mouth at all. OMG the things that came out her mouth. Meryn was a bit of a trouble maker. She may have been introverted, but she didn’t let anyone give her crap! Meryn was a well developed and hilarious character. She made the book for me.
Even though there is some detailed sex in this book it was low on the passion scale, but I was okay with that because Meryn and Aiden had a very sweet relationship. It was an insta-love but I almost always expect that with PNR books. This book was so much fun to read. I didn’t just fall in love with the main couple, I fell in love with Aiden’s parents, and his men. OMG the tampon trip was so funny I thought I was going to pass out from lack of oxygen. A really great read. I can’t wait to read the rest of the series!

Title: My Commander
Series: Bewitched & Bewildered
Author: Alanea Alder
Designation: Book One of Series, Full-Length Standalone, No Cliffhanger #paranormalromance
My Rating: Five Delightfully Entertaining Stars*****
This is my first time reading the work of Alanea Alder but it certainly won’t be my last! I love unique paranormal romance, addicted to action, adventure & suspense, completely smitten with sexy, brave, alpha heroes, adore sassy, courageous heroines, and there’s nothing I enjoy more than an infusion of laugh-out-loud humor, but when I can get it all in one well-crafted and beautifully written book, I’m in absolute heaven! And that’s exactly what Alanea Alder delivered in My Commander, the first full-length standalone paranormal romance in her riveting and highly imaginative Bewitched & Bewildered Series. Did I like this book? No, I LOVED it! Would I recommend it? You bet, and I am but only for adult readers since it does contain explicit language, graphic violence, and steamy, dreamy sex. Will I read this author again? Absolutely which is probably the best recommendation I can give! As a matter of fact, after completing this book, I raced back to Amazon and purchases the remaining books of the series, which speaks volumes as to how much I enjoyed this author’s work! And finally, was I entertained? Completely! I was glued to my chair, white-knuckling my ereader, my heart fluttering wildly in my chest as the time flew as quickly as the pages! I fell in love with gruff, growly Aiden, who turned out to be nothing but a big teddy bear at heart, and Meryn truly captured my heart! I adored her quirkiness and free spirit! But just a little warning, folks, don’t start this book unless you have plenty of time; you will not want to stop until you reach the last page. I should know; I stayed up all night because I couldn’t stop reading! lol… Fabulous entertainment and an awesome read! Thanks for the recommendation Fran Zoch!
LOVE!!
This whose series is terrific! The main female character, Meryn, is hilarious. She has no filter for her mouth, nor does she think before she acts. This leads to many funny and shocking consequences. She has no idea what she is getting into when she meets her mate, Aiden. They are total opposites, but somehow it works for them. For the most part, the characters in the author’s first book continue through the rest of the series with some new faces thrown in to keep the action going. Every book is worth reading. I have read the series 3 times and love it each time.
Alanea Alder’s Bewitched and Bewildered series is awesome! Have read and reread all book s; can’t wait for the next one
I love love love this series! It is so well written and has amazingly funny and great characters. I reread the series when I’m having a bad week because it cheers me up and has me laughing so hard!
Alanea Alder starts a wonderful Bewitched and Bewildered series with book one, My Commander. Do not start to read this book if you have to sleep in order to go to work (you have been warned). Once you open this book and begin reading, there is no stopping. Alanea sucks you into her unique world building and her fantastic characters. Aiden (bear shifter and Unit Commander) is not looking for a mate, but Fate slams into his organized life in the form of his physically challenged but hugely impressive fated mate, Meryn. Meryn, who cannot be described, only experienced, is the best! My Commander is a definite buy. It is the book that starts a series that hopefully has no end.
I can’t get enough of the H/h in this story. Bought this on a recommendation and proceeded to buy the entire series.
An incredible start to an amazing series and a wonderful new world of characters.
a really great reading and re-reading…
This series is so good, I read the books one after the other and couldnt put them down. The best part is the character development. You really get to know each character and their personality quirks. I laughed a lot at their antics, but there were also serious story lines as well. Very dynamic read. Highly reccomend!
I loved the story line and characters. I’ve re-read the all current Bewitched and Bewildered books multiple times while I await the next. They are very good.
I enjoyed this book it was full of great characters. Aiden, his parents, his men and her squire. I want to know about all of them. I laughed pretty hard at the heroines antics. I love a hacker heroine. I loved Felix and expected to see him do more. There were some concerns. I didn’t like the way Aiden talked to her sometimes. Asking her what’s wrong with you. I didn’t like how she was always hitting on him. The first time was understandable. She was afraid for her life. The ending was rushed. I feel like nothing was really resolved. We never found out why the shifter expectant parents were being killed. We never found out who was really behind it all. The guy said he was following orders. They never even rounded up the ferals. What is her squire? What kind of creature or paranormal being? I was very annoyed that those things were NOT explained. The book was really good besides things I said.
Love this author and this series.
This is, without a question, one of my favorite books of all time.
If you’re looking for the next masterpiece brimming with words of eloquence, hard-hitting politics or a breathless romance that leaves you pining for Mister Right, this is probably not your book.
For everyone else, this book (and all of the others in the series) is full of fierce warriors, a spunky fireball of a female you can’t help but utterly adore (and find elements of yourself in, let’s be honest), and a strong, impenetrable sense of belonging. There is not a single character, main or sideline, that you won’t love. Meryn remains, to this day, one of my favorite book heroines, and that only becomes more and more evident as the series continues on.
There is so much wrapped up in such a relatively short story. There is romance, and a fair amount of heat for those who enjoy that, but beneath all of that is a well-hidden mystery that is uncovered simply with a fresh – and curious – set of eyes. There is family, one built from strength and blood and committment… and fate. There are moments of utter hilarity (the first time our dear warriors trek to the store ranks as my favorite scene of the series), true enlightenment and maybe a touch of inner understanding. If everyone chose to look at the world as Meryn does in her so-called “immaturity”, it’s possible a great many things we all struggle with would be solved.
This book should have been on the best 25 romance novels of all time. Meryl and Aiden are awesome, the writing is quick, funny, intriguing. A “must read”.
