A boss/secretary ‘marriage of convenience’ Cinderella romanceMegIt’s not easy to reinvent yourself, but my thirteen-year-old son and I are ready for a new start. Old Maggie was a magnet for disaster, but New Meg is going to be elegant, sophisticated… and blonde. I’ve landed a dream job at the other end of New Zealand as PA to three rich directors who spoil me rotten, I’ve found a beautiful new … directors who spoil me rotten, I’ve found a beautiful new apartment, and I feel reborn.
Then I write an email to a friend describing in vivid detail what I want to do to the sexiest of the directors—involving melted chocolate and/or whipped cream—and mistakenly send it to All Staff. It turns out that New Meg is pretty much just Old Maggie with different packaging. Some things never change.
Stratton
I’ve wanted Meg since she first walked into my office with her soft lips and sexy curves, but she wears another man’s ring, so I’ve steered well clear… until now. My mind’s been occupied anyway since I broke up with my ex, Natalie. She’s desperate to have me back and won’t take no for an answer—so I’ve come up with a brilliant plan, to hire a fake fiancée for Christmas to prove to her that we’re done.
After sending her hot-as-hell email, Meg confesses the truth about her past, and it gives me an idea. She can pretend to be my fiancée, and I can protect her from the guy she’s running from. Sounds like the perfect plan, right? Her teenage son’s no problem because we get on great. Sharing her room? That’s more of a challenge, but I’ve always had excellent self-control.
Yeah, I know. I keep forgetting about the melted chocolate. What an idiot.

A cute, quick, and fun holiday read. Stratton sounds like an ideal boss. Meg is a confident, take no prisoners sort of PA who Stratton is definitely interested in, but she’s married with a 13-year old son. She’s definitely off limits until her world comes crashing down. She’s on the run from an abusive ex. Ex-boyfriend, not husband. Stratton is trying to get rid of an ex, too. He hatches a plan that seems perfect. Sometimes the solution to the problem creates a bigger problem that the one it was supposed to solve. The dialogue is funny, there’s no high drama to speak of, and the characters are engaging. This is an all around fun read.
4.5* I was hooked from the very first page. I liked the working relationship between the H and H and how the sexual tension grew, once they admitted they were attracted to each other. Each chapter is told from the others POV and this really worked well in moving the story along. This is only the 2nd book I have read told from a dual perspective and it was far superior in that it didn’t feel jarring when you switched to the other POV. It was also good to have a story where both individuals are over 30. I found their back stories interesting and I loved Meg’s 13 year old son and his relationship with her. In addition I was introduced to the musician John Mayer’s music.
Note: Strong language.
I received a free copy of this novel from the author in exchange for an honest review. I was not compensated for my review, and I was not required to write a positive review.
Read 2016
Not my usual genre….
I liked the dual POV.
The dialogue was snarky, when it wasn’t flirty. Both were fun to read. There were even a few serious moments.
The characters were all well done… and the situations the main characters were coming out of made their need of the fake relationship not seem outlandish. Their exes were annoying during the story, not dangerous.
The main characters were definitely friends as well as being boss/employee. They liked each other as friends, and they fancied each other. They wouldn’t cross the line into being lovers because she said she was married. When he finds out she’s not…. weeellll that’s different…
Stratton thinks he has the perfect solution to the problems with his ex. He’s getting married, at least that’s how he announces it to his sister Teddi, his best friend Rich and his PA Meg at their morning meeting. This leads to an interesting discussion of his ex Natalie and how she’s harassing him. He get’s Meg to set up appointments with prospective ‘fiancés’ only instead of a modeling agency she calls an escort service. The results are hilarious.
As Meg is preparing to leave for the day she sends an email to her best friend, only it goes to the entire company.
From having to face Stratton to her ex showing up thinking all would just be forgiven leads Meg to agree to be Stratton’s fake fiancé. With concern for her and her son’s safety, Stratton suggests they stay the weekend at his home. This is just the beginning of a very interesting relationship, that simmers before it sizzles.
I look forward to reading Rich and Teddi’s stories, one is New Year’s the other is Valentines.
Lovely Story
Meg and her son Oscar had to leave Christchurch and a new with different last names. She is working as a PA for Stratton, his sister and Rich. But she accidentally send a email out to all the staff instead of her friend about what she likes about him. He needs a fake fiancee and find they both like each other.
This was a beautifully written story. I enjoyed it so much I couldn’t put it down. I felt bad for Stratton to have an ex girlfriend that would not take the hint they were over. Poor Meg she and Oscar were worse off with her ex, the abusive a**. Oh well Stratton and Meg have each other now and they fit together perfectly. Thank you for those yummy love scenes, I really love those.
Another great story by Serenity Woods, I highly recommend it. Love comes later is a great set.
I enjoyed the story of Meg and Stratton. I really liked it being set in New Zealand, where Christmas is in the summer, it was a nice change from the snow, cosy fires and mistletoe. (I live in Australia so I related more to the warm Christmas.) The characters are great and I look forward to reading more of the series to find out if Rich and Teddi get happy ever afters. There are some really funny moments in this book and some very touching moments. It was great to include Meg’s son Oscar into the relationship and still have a very touching romance.
