She gave up her dreams for the sake of love. He’s chasing his heart to Broadway. Can two people set on different paths find what they need in each other?
Jody:I never thought my life would turn out this way. My big dreams of singing on stage have been shattered by a man who knocked me up, then flicked me off. I’m now a twenty-year-old single mother with no other dream than to survive each day. I … other dream than to survive each day. I couldn’t bring myself to give up Angel. As hard as this is, she’s the light of my life and I want to raise her. But my broken heart still yearns for the future I had mapped out.
And now it yearns for something more.
Leo lives across the hall. He’s kind. Sweet. Everything a girl could want.
But he’s not sticking around for long. He’ll be moving to New York soon to direct Broadway musicals, just the way he’s always wanted.
He deserves this success. Falling for him is a really bad idea.
But what if I can’t stop myself?
Leo:
Falling for the girl next door is a really bad idea.
But her voice… that day I heard her sing…
She’s my muse. I couldn’t have composed this stage show without her, yet she doesn’t know it.
I want Broadway.
But I want her too.
Her sweet smile and adorable ways have wrapped around my heart. And don’t even get me started on Angel—the cutest baby girl on the planet.
I’ve worked so hard and so long for this dream, but maybe I’ve been chasing after the wrong thing.
Could the lights of Broadway possibly shine any brighter than Jody’s smile?
I don’t know what I’m going to do. My heart wants two different lives, so which dream do I pursue?

Rating:
I didn’t know whether or not I would like this story. I’ve never been a big fan of a divorcee or a single mother romance. This one had both. But let me tell you, this book surpassed my low expectations and my high. It was wonderfully written. I really felt for the characters. I saw the characters grow throughout the story. They really touched a place in my heart. They were filled with emotion. I loved how the characters understood their mistakes and didn’t want to make them again. I loved the incorporation of music. It was a great story altogether.
This story follows Leo and Jody. Leo recently went through a divorce for a marriage he didn’t even want. His first serious relationship and he was coerced into a wedding. He’s moved to New York to finally go after his dream and leave his mother’s expectations behind. It’s more of a runaway. Jody is a single mother who was impregnated by her teacher. She was truly in love with him but he left her behind. She left her dreams of singing to raise Angel. They both meet when Leo is putting an advertisement for a roomie and Jody is just escaping a bad day. Leo recommends a song and that helps Jody. Jody using the advertisement to call him later that evening. Leo offers her a job.
I wrote this voluntary review in exchange for an ARC copy.
My Change of Heart is a stranger to lovers romance that really moved me.
Jody, a single mom, lives with her sister and father. A father, who is not happy about her circumstances of being a young mom and who gave up her dream of theater. Then there is Leo. An Aussie who comes to America to write musicals has huge dreams of making it one day on Broadway. Jody doesn’t want to be a burden to her family and moves out on her own, only to discover that being on your own as a single parent is a tough road.
Leo works for Bobby and runs an apartment building, but also wants to work on his music at the same time. Who knew that he would eventually run into the one person that needed what he had to offer? The offer of an opportunity to be on their own and prove that they could make it? In comes Jody. She has a lot to prove, but can she do it?
I enjoyed the relationship between Jody and Leo. I definitely identified with Jody and her circumstances. My Change of Heart really makes you feel like you are right along with them both, but begging for things to happen. There are some areas of shock and some areas where it frustrates you and you feel like you want to scream at one of the characters (Stefan, for me). You really want the best for the both of them as you read this book. The best thing about My Change of Heart is the way it unfolds, leaving you to want more as you turn each page.
Jody followed her dream of going to college, but when she fell in love with a teacher and became pregnant, she was forced to return to Los Angeles and give up on her dreams.
After a divorce, Leo decides to leave Australia and go to the United States to pursue his dream of reaching Broadway.
When Jody decides it’s time to fend for herself to create little Angel, she comes across Leo, who offers her a job and a place to live.
As they spend time together, the feelings appear, as does Leo’s inspiration to create his piece. They spend more time together and start rehearsing the songs for the show.
But when an unexpected accident happens, it can put both of their dreams at a loss. Will they be able to achieve their dreams and be happy together?
I loved the story and how much Jody has matured. I highly recommend the reading.
A wonderful love story about dreams coming true, second chances and true love. Jody’s dreams shattered the moment she got pregnant. Leo’s dream can come true if she is able to write the musical in his heart and he can make it to Broadway. Can they get they dreams without giving up their dreams? The music will feel your heart while reading this amazing love story.
I received a free copy of this book from the author and voluntarily reviewed it.
This series has been getting better and better with each book. I really enjoyed this book and think it’s the best one in the series yet. I usually am not a big fan of books with babies in them, but I think the author handled it really well here. Angel was sweet and I liked how she was an important part of the story showing Jody’s transformation. While this book can be read as a standalone, I think you get the most out of it by starting with book 1 or at least reading book 2 first as that shows the first part of Jody’s story.
Jody had big dreams, she loves singing and went to study this and hoped to make it big. Along the way she fell for her teacher and got pregnant, he basically didn’t care about her and now she’s being a single mom living back with her dad. In this book that’s where it starts. Her dreams are shattered and she has a baby to care for. Jody is struggling and eventually decides to strike out on her own after a chance meeting with Leo.
There is such a big chance Jody goes through in this series. She goes from this super cheerful and upbeat side character to the sad broken girl in book 2 who returns home with her dreams in shatters and pregnant. In this book you see her journey past that, how she overcomes her sad feelings and caves out her own life. How she fights for what she wants. How hard it is to move out her dad’s house, but also how good this does her. How she becomes independent, carves out a a life for herself and her baby and figures everything out. I liked seeing her figure it all out, she struggles and not everything goes perfect, but that makes the story only more realistic. I liked seeing how she finds love and home along the way. It really was beautiful to see. It also was interesting to see some glimpses from the past and how she fell for her teacher and got pregnant.
Leo also has had his struggles, although I found his journey less impactful than Jody’s one it was still great to see. The biggest of his changes are right at the start and end. How he basically gave up his life to make his mom happy and marry a girl he didn’t really love. And then at the start after a talk with his brother he decided to move to the United States and chase his dreams. It was great to see him finally live for himself and then find love in Jody and Angel. And most of all I liked the message in this book of how you have to work for your dreams and chasing them is valuable, but also how dreams can change and how they sometimes aren’t what you thought it was. Or how your dreams can take a different shape. The title is very fitting for this book.
The romance in this book is just so sweet. I think this romance is my favorite so far. It has a bit of a slower build, with them slowly getting to know each other. Leo was just perfect for Jody and I loved how caring he was and how he is there for her. It also was great to see how Jody inspires him and is his creative muse. They both really flourish in this book and seeing their romance slowly build was great. I also liked how the pattern of this romance was different than in the first two books. There wasn’t a big need space from each other at the end like in the first two books. The conflict they had at the end felt true to the characters and I liked how they resolved it. The epilogue was awesome too.
I really like how you see the previous couples play a big part here too. There is quite a bit of Ella and Morgan and you see their stories continue on the side lines. It was fun to still see those characters and these first 3 books really are knit tightly together because of the strong friendship between these 3 girls. I am excited to see where the rest of the series goes and if/ how those stories will tie in with these characters. There also was an interesting part in this book about Jody and her dad and seeing how strained their relationship was and how they try to mend it.
To summarize: I really enjoyed this book. Jody has been through a lot already, her dreams are shattered and she’s a young single mother struggling to adjust. A chance encounter with Leo changes her life for the better. I really liked seeing Jody change and develop and grow throughout this book. She really figures out how to handle herself, becomes more independent and stands up what she wants. She really does her best to be a good mom for her baby. And I really liked seeing her story and how Angel was a part of it. Leo also has his own story of following his dreams after not doing so for years. I liked these two together. Their romance is so sweet and I liked the slower build and different progression this romance had. I also liked the different tone than the previous books. It was fun to still see the previous couples from the first 2 books as well. I am excited to see where the rest of this series goes.
Gotta love Aussie men, ok I’m biased but Leo was a keeper. Jody has a lot of growing to do and it’s happening fast due to circumstances. What a great couple they made, surviving the good and the bad. I don’t know a lot of music that was mentioned…old. who’s old? lol So after looking up some songs and artists on Spotify I think my next random made playlist may be interesting.
What a great story, bring on book 4.
