Hoax knows two things very well. One, he’s not relationship material. Two, the nurse that treats him for erectile dysfunction is the most beautiful thing he’s ever seen, and practically has ‘the marrying type’ stamped on her forehead.Does that stop him from wanting her? No.Unfortunately, he learned a long time ago that Army Delta Force and long-lasting relationships don’t go hand in hand. But … don’t go hand in hand.
But beautiful hazel eyes, curly blonde hair, and the prettiest lips he’s ever seen play havoc with his resolve, making him forget his earlier convictions.
All it takes is one teeny, tiny kiss for every shred of control he has to disappear, along with the problem in his pants.
Soon he finds himself doing things that he knows that he shouldn’t. He doesn’t know that he’s found the woman that’s meant to be his. Nor does he realize that her father is the man he’s idolized from the moment he joined the army at the age of eighteen. Because, maybe if he had, he would’ve tried a little harder to ignore the pull he felt between them instead of making her his the night before he deployed for six months.
He also might’ve tried a little harder not to knock her up.

Out of all the books, LLV has written, I think this one is my favorite.
Pru is one of Sam and Cheyenne’s twins (The Freebirds), and Sila’s granddaughter (The Heroes of The Dixie Wardens). Hoax is Dixie’s grandson (Dixie Warden) and Bayou’s cousin (Bear Bottom Guardians MC). So, we have several series, families, and generations at play in this book, and it’s freaking awesome! It can be read as a standalone, but I do not recommend it. You can’t appreciate it in its entirety without reading the books these characters had and been in—even the ones who have had their own books make appearances in others.
So, let’s get down to it…
Hoax is still in the military—Delta Force—and has no plans on ever leaving or falling in love… until he meets Pru.
Pru is not looking for love from a military man. Refuses to even date them since she’s been burned twice by liars and cheaters. Her father’s generation was the last of the good ones, or so she thought.
I loved watching them prove each other wrong, and in Lani Lynn Vale fashion, it was quite hilarious. I was laughing right from the get-go!
So, if you like reading about family, alpha males, feisty nurses, pet pigs and movie quoting parrots … this book is for you! I can’t forget the villain, because there is always a villain lurking to make life difficult for our couple. So, buy it, and you won’t be sorry.
5 Stars!
I just have to say, every time one of the kids from Free gets a book I’m always doing a happy dance. I fell in love with Lani Lynn Vale’s writing years ago with Boomtown, so seeing Pru get her book was like going back to the very first time I discovered my favorite author. That said Pru and Hoax have a story that shot right up to being one of my all time favorites all on their own. With moments that had my hysterically laughing to moments that completely stole my heart My Bad is one of the best books in this series! Also, my favorite bean dip was mentioned so, like, all the bonus points for that. But I will say I’ve made improvements to that recipe, so Lani hit me up for the details
All joking (not really, add a can of rotel, top it with Mexican cheese blend, and bake at 350 instead of the microwave. TRUST ME.) aside Pru and Hoax stole my heart almost immediately while they had me crying laughing. Hoax is absolutely divine and when I wasn’t giggling my heart was melting, along with other things, from just how wonderful and hot he is. Him and Pru have a connection from the second they meet, but Pru definitely makes him work for it in the start.
Pru reminded me so much of her mother while still being her own unique person. With plenty of sass, expert level sarcasm, and a heart of gold she was flat out fun to read. This is yet another totally addictive read that will leave you with a giant smile.
Great start to another of these fabulous stories by this author who really knows how to spin a tale.
Hoax meets Pru and is immediately taken with her however, although she is also attracted to him, she doesn’t want to date any more military men. This proves to be a challenge for Hoax.
Fun banter and and round laugh out loud humour really makes this story stand out. For example that special bonding moment between Sam, Pru’s dad, and Hoax after eating Mexican food!
The characters, both lead and secondary ones, are all really interesting and I found to be realistic. For example Phoebe is very much the annoying little sister but also brutally honest. Both Pru and Hoax are great characters and extremely easy to like, they compliment each other so well. They are sexually combustible and have a deep need to be there for each other, as well as their family and friends.
This is a lighter romance that I feel pushes all the right buttons.
romance
passion
humour
a touch of drama
I am a huge fan of Lani Lynn Vale’s, and a large reason for that is because of this amazing fictional world she has built for her readers in Texas through many interconnecting stories and series and characters. With each new book she releases, Vale builds upon that community, and it’s resulted in an unparalleled reading experience, one unique to Lani. But what’s truly remarkable is how she’s written these stories in such a way that a new reader doesn’t have to go all the way back to the beginning – a daunting task for any reader when faced with a back catalog this large – and can jump in anywhere. Vale’s work is like a long-running soap opera, with a couple of spin-off shows, but in book form. As a reader who’s been reading her books since the very first one was released, I can unequivocally say that I’m hooked, and I cannot get enough of these characters, these places and their stories.
Something else Vale does well is the way she writes about regular guys and everyday heroes. Firemen, police officers, paramedics and military men, Vale takes all of these complicated alpha types and pairs them with a perfect match. Her heroines are just as feisty and fierce as her men are alpha and possessive. My Bad brings together Pru, a nurse, with Hoax, a biker in the Bear Bottom Guardians and a man in the Army. These two had that instant crackle of attention that makes you sit up and take notice. Pru may have fought it a little at first, but Hoax didn’t have to work too hard to coax her out with him. They were so sweet, and from the minute they met, there wasn’t anyone else for either of them. There was a sweet feel to their romance, but that didn’t dampen the heat between them. There’s always a suspenseful edge to Vale’s stories, and she didn’t disappoint here giving her readers a creepy plot arc amongst a sweet and sexy romance.
It wouldn’t be a story by Lani Lynn Vale without her fantastic sense of humor, and it peppers the pages throughout this book in new and thoroughly enjoyable ways. As the daughter of one of Lani’s founding couples, there was plenty of screen time with fan favorites Sam and Cheyenne, Pru’s parents, making this yet another winner in a series full of them. Five smooches from me for My Bad by Lani Lynn Vale!

It starts out serious and changes into fun and flirty, with some hilarious moments. This book was one of my favorites in this series. It features Hoax, the scary biker dude that appeared in How About No, and sweet Pru, a nurse in the hospital’s ER. He goes into the ER to be treated for erectile dysfunction and the moment he saw Pru, he was cured!! So what he did instead of getting treated was to ask her on a date.
Pru doesn’t date military men; she had a bad deal with two previous boyfriends, and has a very protective ex-military father, so no go for poor Hoax. Thankfully, Pru lives next door to Hoax’s cousin Bayou, so he’s able to secure another opportunity for a date.
Hoax is not only in the Army, he’s Delta Force, which means he can be deployed suddenly and for periods of up to six months. He doesn’t do relationships, yet as he gets to know Pru, his ideas changed. Pru keeps challenging him and he rises to each challenge. The best one is when they went for a Mexican dinner with her family and he had a hysterical pooping bonding moment with her father. Best scene ever!!
As Pru and Hoax get closer, they get involved in each other’s lives. So Pru has to win over Hoax’s cousins who are initially hostile towards her, and Hoax wants to help Pru at her work environment where she has problems with a superior.
Pru and Hoax are a sweet couple. There are a lot of cute moments between them, there’s some work harassment for Pru, threats and a surprise pregnancy. Very entertaining, family and friends oriented, and we get to visit with some old friends from previous books. Although the book can stand alone, I felt like there was some past history from previous books that might have given clarity to some details that felt sketchy. In spite of this, it was a great and lively story and I loved Hoax and Pru.
This was, as usual for me, a really good story from Lani Lynn Vale. It gave me a feeling of Cheyenne and Sam’s story back in the first ever book, Boomtown; although of course that could have had something to do with the girl in this book being their daughter, Pru. Hoax was a perfect match for Pru, and luckily for him a perfect first “forever guy” for Sam and the other Free men to welcome into the family. I love these next gen books although it’s a little bittersweet seeing the original “heroes” getting older, but I hope the other two Mackenzie sisters get their own stories too.
Another fab read from this author and world I love and I can’t wait for the next one. I give My Bad 5 stars. – Melanie
If you haven’t read the Freebirds series or any of the previous books… well 1.) You’re missing out on some really good books, 2.) This book will flow better if you read in order. I feel like a proud parent reading Pru’s story. I have been around since the very beginning with Sam and Cheyenne and now getting to read Pru finding her HEA was a bit bittersweet. Pru has a rule that she doesn’t date patients or military men, so when Hoax, someone checking into the ER and reeking military training, asks her out, she turns him down. Hoax knew the moment he saw Pru that she was a game changer, getting her to agree to a date is one thing, getting her to agree that she will wait for him until he comes back will become another.
I loved this story! This took me straight back to the Freebirds series, and all the feels you get when you read it. Funny, quirky, steamy, little bit of drama, little bit of violence, and a whole lot of feels, this is a def 5 star read. – Jennifer
Ahhhh. Pru and Hoax were great. Not only was it the first one the charmed name girls getting to find love, but it was pretty kid back and just an all around feel good story. I love the way this author can keep me on the edge of my seat, which she has done so many times throughout her series but this shows that she can keep things pretty light and still give off that suspense, what’s going to happen next, feel to it. There is a lot that goes on in this book and gives us some insight to what book will be coming next and I can’t wait. Bring on the next Mackenzie sister, I am sooo ready. 5 stars #2OCCJD
There is so much I could say about this book, but I don’t want to give anything away! This book is connected to several of the series by LLV, but mostly in a peripheral way. Hoax has close ties to the Bear Bottom Guardians, but leads a nomadic lifestyle. He is military, with no real home base. He lives life as it comes, taking it day to day, until a trip to the ER for an embarrassing condition leads to a life changing meeting. There is an instant connection, and even though she doesn’t want to get involved with someone in the military, he knows what he wants. Surprises are plentiful in this book, including some I never saw coming!
I love Hoax! He is patient, determined, and totally Alpha, which is exactly what she needs! I loved visiting with friends from previous books, as well as meeting new characters. This book focuses a little more on the military aspect of this life, instead of the MC focus of previous books, but there is just as much action and suspense, which I loved! The chemistry and heat between the main characters was amazing, and I loved how comfortable they were with each other! This was a great addition to the Bear Bottom Guardians MC, as well as the LLV world as a whole!
