Murder’s a Witch
Holly Boldt has a secret
Well, technically, she has lots of them. After a scandal uproots her entire life, she is forced to relocate to a halfway house for displaced paranormals. It’s her last shot for a fresh start. But keeping secrets isn’t easy in a town that goes through gossip faster than tissue paper, even for a powerful witch.
When a grisly murder rocks the small town of Beechwood Harbor, Holly finds herself unwillingly entangled in the investigation. With everyone watching, Holly must solve the case before she’s forced to abandon her new-found home. But with a paranormal investigator tailing her every move, a civil war brewing between her vampire and shifter roommates, and her ghostly landlord on the edge of a breakdown, she can barely think in complete sentences. How is she supposed to track down a murderer?
Holly has to make it work, or risk losing everything … again.

Murder’s a Witch is the first book in the Beechwood Harbor Magic Mysteries series. A series of spunky paranormal cozy mysteries that are perfect for fans of Amanda M. Lee, Kristen Painter, and Angie Fox.
Come join the fun in Beechwood Harbor, the little town where witches, shifters, ghosts, and vamps all live, work, play—and mostly—get along!more
This is so funny you will laugh till you cry. Holly is a witch in a paranormal halfway house; she is living with a vampire and a shifter (who fight all the time) and the place is run by a ghost. Holly’s boss is killed and her best friend is accused by the cops. So, Holly decides to investigate the case with the help of the shifter and Nick, a PI, who shows up. I like the characters and the story.
Excellent first novel in a cute, paranormal, cozy mystery series
Holly is a 28-year-old witch, all of whose family is dead except one aunt, who has abandoned her relationship with Holly because Holly got into trouble with the magical authorities in the secret paranormal society, Haven. Her ex-boyfriend, who was her one and only serious relationship, and which lasted 5 years, is an evil, dark wizard who is currently locked up in prison. He tried to drag Holly down with him, in a series of events which are presented on stage in the prequel to this novel. Holly has been outcast from Haven and forced to live in a sort of halfway house for troubled paranormals in a beautiful little seaside town in Northern California called Beechwood Harbor. Her residence is a somewhat spooky, 100-year-old, hilltop mansion, where she lives with three other magical individuals, a shifter who turns into a 200-pound, black dog, a female vampire, a big scary man whose magical status is currently unknown, and the ghost who owned the house when she was alive and presides over it in her death.
Holly’s days consist of working at a local coffee shop, creating magical potions with herbs she grows in a greenhouse on the property of the mansion, and attempting to adjust to, for the very first time, living among humans who do not know that she is a witch or that paranormal beings exist.
When Holly stumbles upon the body of her boss, who has been brutally murdered, she becomes personally invested in solving the murder, because the prime suspect is the sweet young woman who has become her friend, who works with her at the coffee shop.
This is an entertaining, fast-paced, cozy mystery. It is closer to G-rated than PG, because there is no graphic violence, no cussing, very very little drinking, no drunkenness, and no sex of any kind, not even a kiss. Holly is a sympathetic protagonist, and there are many enjoyably colorful subcharacters in the story. Her romantic interest, Adam, is an adorable, charming, sympathetic, Beta male.
I experienced this novel as an audiobook, and it is well done.
All in all, this is a frequently amusing, entertaining read.
An amazing paranormal mystery to keep you on the edge of your seat. Powerful storyline & intense characters that you will love or hate. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a good mystery or enjoys paranormal.
Holly is sent to a half way house for displaced paranormals. This is it, her last shot to get her act together. Then a murder happens in Beechwood Harbor, and Holly unwillingly is involved with trying to solve it. Then there is a civil war brewing between her vampire and shifter roommates, and her ghostly landlord on the edge of a breakdown, and she is being followed around everywhere by a paranormal investigator how is she suppose to stay out of trouble and solve a murder? This really is a funny read. Great characters, the interaction between them all is amazing. I really enjoyed this book.
“Murder’s a Witch” earns 5/5 Magical Journeys…with a Few Secrets!
Danielle Garrett has penned a delightful ‘witchy’ adventure introducing Holly Boldt in “Murder’s a Witch,” the opening book in her Beechwood Harbor Magic Mystery series. I was first introduced to Danielle’s work with her entertaining short stories “Cat, Bats, and Talking Hats” in “Witch or Treat” and “The Ghost Hunter that Saved Christmas” in “Spells and Jinglebells” collections of paranormal shorts and knew I needed to read more. I was hooked right off with Holly Boldt, a witch banished to a halfway house in Beechwood Harbor inhabited with ghosts, vampires, witches, shifters, and just plain humans. There she starts to build some friendships, becomes a ‘tri’ in a triangle, gets involved in a murder investigation to clear the name of one of those new friends, and struggles to keep her secret. This story, like the others, was well written and engaging with a clever mystery and quirky paranormal and normal characters. There is a prequel, “A Witch of a Day,” that I highly recommend. It provides additional details to better answer some of the why, who, and what questions that may come up about Holly’s background.
