Synopsis:
Success can be a powerful motive for murder.
Particularly when a man is only twenty-four years old and has made millions.
But maybe it was revenge, greed, or his extramarital affairs.
When Connor, the wunderkind, rented out the entire Red Cedar Lodge and Spa for just himself and his assistant, that should have been a warning to Liz that he wasn’t an ordinary man.
It quickly becomes apparent to her that in order to protect her staff, Connor’s wife, and even Liz herself, she has to find the murderer before any of them becomes the next victim.
Real estate can be a dirty business, but unfit fathers can be just as bad. Sometimes if you just wait around long enough, you get a chance to see karma in action. Here’s your chance.

Review:
The mystery was well plotted and carried on well throughout the entire book. There were enough clues to sift through and suspects to consider. The writing style flows smoothly and the book is a quick easy read. I enjoy the way the author has the murder take place in the prologue and then the suspects are given a closer inspection.
The characters are well developed and well rounded. As owner of the Red Cedar Lodge and Spa, Liz is used to be in charge and doing what needs to be done. When one of her guests are killed, she feels that she needs to help find the killer (especially since she thinks the sheriff is incapable). With the help of her husband, that is exactly what she plans on doing.
I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well crafted cozy. Check this book out, I think you will be happy that you did.
Murdered by Success: A Liz Lucas Cozy Mystery (Liz Lucas Cozy Mystery Series Book 11), my ninth read/listen from author Dianne Harman and my fourth read in this series. Well-written and developed, drawing on earlier books in the series. I have to read more by this author about this character. I was given an Audible copy of this book & am voluntarily reviewing it. Kasey Logan’s narration adds to an excellent book’s enjoyment. I look forward to reading more in this series & from this author. So far I’m all over the place in this series, someday I need to go back and read the books in it that I haven’t read yet. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 – July 24, 2018).
This review is for the audio book.
I love the Liz Lucas series and this book is no exception. This is book 11 in the series and it is a good example of why the series is still going strong. You don’t need to listen to them in order because all the stories are stand alone mysteries. The story is supported by a great cast of characters, that by Book 11 feel like old family friends, but it is the mystery that takes centre stage. It starts with the murder and then goes on to explain all the suspects motives for wanting the victim dead. It is a light enjoyable mystery that is sure to delight, as you cosy down to listen to and puzzle which of the many suspects had the biggest motive.
Liz is pleased when the entire Red cedar lodge and spar is hired out by a high flying 24 year old real estate agent but it seems the booking wasn’t because he desired peace and quite but rather fear. It seems the 24 year old may have made a few enemies in his short life and after a smear campaign and threatening notes over a prolonged period of time, Connor has become paranoid and fears for his safety. Liz fearing for her staff encourages Connors assistant to go to the police or at least think about her staff by hiring a security team. There fears are realised when Connor fails to return from a business meeting and misses dinner. Was it a business deal gone wrong? Liz fed up with the hopeless sheriff, who is to worried about budget cuts and writing traffic tickets, to investigate and worried about Connor’s wife giving birth to his child without his killer being brought to justice, She and Winston, her faithful guard dog set out to find the killer.
I like this narrator and I am glad she seems to be the preferred narrator for this series because she puts in a good performance every time.
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
Greed and jealousy are terrible things as this novel will point out. Liz Lucas rented out the entire Red Cedar Lodge to Connor and his assistant. His demands were varied and many. To say this guy was paranoid—He did have a horrible life but really made himself into a self made millionaire by the age of 24. He was ruthless in pursuit of his goals and made many enemies along the way.
He turned up dead in his car after driving himself to a lucrative business meeting. It fell mostly to Liz to track down the many possibilities as to who his killer may be.
You know that there are twists and turns–the person you may think killed him–nope. You will have to keep reading till the end to make you think twice about becoming a millionaire!!
