This is a good paranormal cozy mystery for teens and young adults. It’s about secrets in families and how the secrets are revealed though out a murder investigation.
I adored this book and I loved Summer and Tina. They really made a good team when Summer arrives at her Grandma’s Inn and meets Tina. There is a murder of a man Summer knew and quickly she is suspect number one. But just as fast a number of people at an equal reason to want the man dead. I thought it was a well written, humorous and it hooked me in like a trout on a line. I can”t wait to read the next one which I am sure will be just as good or better.
Murder with a Psychic Touch is wonderful introduction into a warm and cozy new world of murder and mystery with a mixture of characters (esp. a smart mouth parrot) that will keep you coming back for more.
B.T. Alive’s new cozy series creates an environment filled with magic, mystery, mayhem, and more than a touch of love.
Summer receives a formal invitation from “Grandma” to come visit the Inn at Wonder Springs. What Grandma? Then Summer finds a creepy man in her apartment holding Mr. Charm, her cat, and threatening to throttle him. Summer has a touch of magic, so she “zaps” the creep when the creep grabs her wrist in a vise like grip. She quickly grabs her Mr. Charm and runs to her car thinking that this place called Wonder Springs sounds like a perfect little getaway.
This book held my interest throughout, and I look forward to reading the second in the series. It is a busy cozy, maybe trying to introduce too much at once. The Author does have a dryer sense of humor, so don’t expect full laugh-out-loud humor.
I did receive an advance copy from the author, and this is my honest reviewew of this book. I’d recommended this 4-star cozy for fans of mystery, paranormal adventure, or just fun stories.
This is different from what I was used to in Bill Alive’s books. I admit I was expecting a bit more humor. Even having liked this book a lot I struggled with the notion that Summer was this kick-ass, assertive woman but when in the presence of Grandma became a wimp. And why did Grandma give her a cold shoulder if truly was happy to have her there? Loved the location and wiched it was real so I could go live there.
This concept is very alluring to me and I wonder where it’s heading.
Can’t wait for the next one.
I started reading this book and was finding myself really enjoying it that I actually slowed down my reading to make it last. There was so much to learn about this new world that I did not want to miss a detail.
Imagine growing up with a special ability and no one around to help you deal with it. Then out of the blue someone claims to be related to you and invites you to come. Here you run into other people with different abilities but are also accused of murder. You guessed it. Now read the book.
Mr. Charm has special abilities too. Can’t wait to learn what they all are! I love Mr. Charm. He is so cute!
What is up with the town, spring and the people? do they all have special abilities too?
Need to remember that there is another side of her family history. Who does she look like too? Never is said.
So when is the next book? I need answers.
This is my honest and freely given review. I did receive an ARC book.
Murder With a Psychic Touch (A Wonder Springs Cozy Mystery Book 1) by B.T. Alive is a wonderful story writen by a brand new author for me to read. I highly recommend this story to everyone who loves reading about mysteries.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book
I enjoyed this fun mystery! The main character has an interesting personality that lends itself to a fun narrative voice. Though she drove me crazy sometimes, it was in the way a quirky friend does, not like a poorly written character. Mysteries aren’t my usual genre, but I’m invested in the characters and their situation, and now I can hardly wait for the next book. (Fortunately, I don’t have long to wait!) The story IS resolved at the end of this one, but certain continuing threads will probably make most readers want to go on to the rest of the series. (And as with anything by this author, why wouldn’t you want to anyway?!) Recommended for fans of cozy mystery, paranormal adventure, or just fun stories.

Summer Sassafras has a secret power – her touch can make people forget. Up to this point, she’s only used it to assist her in selling software contracts to get big commissions and beat her office arch-nemesis. Unfortunately, he gets the promotion she was angling for and she quits in a snit. She gets a mysterious letter on expensive stationery from a family member she didn’t know she had leads her off on an adventure that changes her life.
Minuses – that last name … I found it irritating and annoying. It took me out of the story every time she said it and made me think, really, author, you couldn’t have come up with something better?; and the abrupt ending.
Pluses – witty dialogue, fast pace, lots of action, interesting characters, and plausible paranormal, everything I like. There were a couple of nice insider nods to the author’s other work, the Empath Detective series, that made this book more fun. Summer is scattered, but eminently likeable. The secondary characters are well-drawn, with interesting paranormal skills of their own. The setting of a country inn is perfect for bringing in new characters and situations.
This book held my interest throughout, and I liked it enough to want to read the second in the series. I received a free copy from the author, but absent that I would have bought this anyway, because I like his other work.
Summer Sassafras quits her job after not getting the promotion she felt she deserved. Her rival, Nyle was the one that got the promotion. Summer receives a letter from her Grandma, who she does not know exists. She decides to go and see this Grandma. Nyle gets poisoned and Summer is the main suspect. She then is desperate to find the real killer. The novel gets very interesting from this point. You want to keep reading.
Summer Sassafras is having a bad day. Her hated co-worker, Nyle Pritchett, got the promotion she should have received, so she quits her sales job. Her phone is electro-fried while she sits in a coffee shop, where she’s trying to read a letter on opulent stationery, inviting her to a little Virginia town called Wonder Springs, to meet family members she never knew existed.
So when she walks into her Philadelphia apartment and spots a sinister man seated on her sofa, gripping her cat, Mr. Charm, she’s freaked. The stranger demonstrates frightening powers and specifically mentions the Touch, her “gift” that jolts her and erases the immediate memory of the person she touched — a power that no one knows about. Her sales skills and quick reflexes free Mr. Charm from his grip. But as they’re peeling out, the man grabs her arm, leaving mottled marks where his fingers encircled her wrist.
So, scared out of her wits, she runs to her car and takes off for the little town of Wonder Springs, where she discovers what looks like a gentle storybook world. She makes her way to the inn and meets a maternal woman and a strange man dressed like Gandalf on the porch, but when she shows them the marks on her arm, the wizard utters the word “sleep” and she’s suddenly unconscious.
When Summer awakens the next day, her arm is clear, so she makes her way downstairs in her rumpled suit to connect with her so-called relatives — and is pressed into breakfast service in the dining room. Where she finds herself placing a plate before Nyle, who’s attending a Pritchett family reunion at the inn. And as soon as he takes one bite of his food, he keels over into his plate, instantly dead.
Something very bad is afoot.
Accused of murder and presumed guilty by the sheriff, who bears an uncanny resemblance to a bloodhound she met the previous day, Summer realizes she’s in charge of proving her innocence. It doesn’t help that everyone in the Pritchett family loudly declares her a murderer, but they all have secrets to hide and motives to kill. As she plumbs the inn and the town for evidence to clear her name, she finds strange things at work — could she call it magic? — and with her cousin Tina’s help, Summer discovers there’s a lot more to Wonder Springs than meets the eye — including the devilishly handsome Cade, who she can’t get out of her mind.
Summer fears she’ll end up in jail if she can’t suss out the killer. But just as otherworldly sources seem allied against her, she also senses forces of good are on her side, which gives her the strength to push on to prove her innocence. B.T. Alive’s new cozy series creates an environment filled with magic, mystery, mayhem, and more than a touch of love.
Summer Sassafras (great name) just quit her job and spent her last ten dollars at the coffee shop. With a mysterious letter from a completely unknown Grandma in hand she stops to pick up her cat and leave. A strange man in her apartment tries to recruit her to use her gift and work with him. Summer is able to escape and eventually makes it to her new family, where she discovers she is not the only one with a gift. There is a lot of information included here to set up the series which occasionally feels a bit crowded but the overall feel of the setting and the characters themselves are loads of fun. I especially love the moral ambiguity of Summer. She’s not above using her gift to get ahead at work and then using it to spend the last of her money to make a stranger feel better. Her complicated feelings for Tina are also amusing, and honest. The mystery itself is twisty and surprising and Summer and Tina make a good detective team. I received an advance copy of this book and voluntarily left a review.
The first book in a new series is frequently a bit hit and miss as it has to do a lot of things: introduce the characters and give at least some of their backstories; set the tone for the series; set up the location(s) and last but by no means least, have a great plot.
So, how did this one do? well there are lots of characters, some are well drawn, and some we will hopefully get to know better in subsequent books I did think that Summer (the lead character) was a bit unbelievable, on the one hand she is a seriously good and aggressive sales lady, but on the other she meekly follows instructions from Grandma Meredith, somehow I wasn’t convinced by this. It appears that the series will consist of rather tongue-in-cheek paranormal mysteries, I hope the other books are less ‘full-on’ as I found that this one had too many elements and so was rather manic and confusing. The location however is great, I love the descriptions of ‘Wonder Springs’ and the Inn.
So a decent start to the series, especially the huge twist at the end, I am very interested to see how it develops.
I received an advance copy of this book, but have voluntarily reviewed it.
