Shifter Lily Mason and her pit bull Smooshie are once again on the trail of a murderer and this time close to home!Sometimes, trying to be part of the human world can be a real killer. . . Cougar-shifter Lily Mason is ready to put down roots in the human town of Moonrise, Missouri. She only has two problems: her attraction and proximity to Parker Knowles, her boss at the Pit Bull Rescue Shelter, … Bull Rescue Shelter, and her need to shift into animal form more than once a month.
When she gets the opportunity to buy a “fixer-upper” outside of Moonrise with plenty of room to get wild without running into easily freaked-out humans, Lily jumps at the chance. Smooshie, Lily’s lovable pit bull and partner in chaos, is eager to participate with the home improvements. Unfortunately, Smooshie’s help includes digging out a mummified body from the living room wall.
Lily is still recovering from the last murder investigation she got involved in–and she’s not looking forward to being in the middle of another one. The case gets even stickier when Lily’s landlord is murdered, rumors of a heist gone wrong run rampant, and Parker’s old high school buddies have returned to Moonrise, thus increasing the suspect pool. Lily’s attempts to become a bona fide citizen of Moonrise might well be thwarted by this newest complication–especially when the murderer sets sights on her.
Murder & The Money Pit, Book 2 of the Barkside of the Moon Mysteries from USA Today bestselling paranormal cozy mystery author Renee George, is a gripping murder mystery that keeps you guessing from beginning to end!

I received my copy of this book for free (on Instafreebie) for an honest review.
I have fallen in love with these books! The first book was a quick and fun read, this second book did NOT disappoint!! Book 2 is a wonderful second installment to this series that cements our relationship with the main character (Lily). She is now a fixture of this little town she is in. I love all aspects of this book. The characters are very well defined and easy to picture. I especially love the continued mention of the dogs in this story! Smooshie is a real part of these books and so it is fun to read about her little adventures and reactions too! Lastly, just like the first story, there is a great mystery involved here. The who-done-it?! is easily explained at the end and keeps you guessing throughout. I really do look forward to reading more from this author and about these characters in the Barkside of the Moon series. I find myself really wondering where things will go next with them and what mysteries we will be solving in book 3 (and so on!). I highly recommend these books as they make for wonderful quick reads that satisfy one’s tastes for mystery, a bit of romping about and a pinch of romance, that is all set in a nice small town feel!
This series is really starting to grow on me. The books are easy and light with enough mystery and a hint of romance to keep the plot interesting. Lilly is really starting to settle into Moonrise and find her place in book two. The town is quirky and the large group of side characters add to the fun. All the doggies running around is also a cute touch.
Murders, Old And New
Lily buys an old house to renovate and uncovers more than she bargained for. This book has a plot that stands alone quite well, but the back-story is well worth reading this series in order. The story has many moving pieces and I was surprised at the final resolution. The author puts together a riveting tale that you don’t want to put down. Her writing is so smooth that the story moves quickly. I have fallen in love with this series and have bought them all! I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys cozy mysteries with a slightly paranormal bent and a touch of romance. I am so glad that I bought this book. I am keeping it to read the series over again!
Really different. Nothing is simple. Good story with some not so sweet and light moments. Characters should last for years through more good books! Look from reward to more.
First let me say, the title of this book, fits it perfectly. Lily and Smooshie are back in book 2 and involved in another murder mystery, whether Lily wants to be or not. This is a light paranormal story of a were shifter who is trying to build a life in a Moonrise, a human town, while keeping her abilities hidden so as not to freak out the humans. She is secretly crushing on Parker, her boss and landlord, who is human. Lily has convinced herself that they can never be together due to her little secret. Humans and shifters can’t be mates, or can they? So to put some distance between them, Lily buys a run down house needing a lot of work. Smooshie finds a bone buried in the walls, leading them to a body, so here they go again. Plenty of action and fun in these books, I like the town of Moonrise and plan to continue visiting it thru Renee George’s future books. I did receive a ARC from the author and am leaving a review because I like her style of writing and the humor in her stories, I see myself building up a collection of all of her books in the future.
If you like a book with intrigue, mystery, murder and hidden money you’ll love this book. And a few surprises for parker. Love Smooshie, the pit bull. It seems Lily is always getting into trouble or finding it.
There MIGHT be a spoiler but its not a huge one if at all. Just forewarning.
Second in the series. I had trouble getting into this book at the beginning. It didnt pick up for me til about 55%. It was slow going. Then it was great! I did like the first book a little better because it wasn’t slow for me at all. I dont mind romances being drawn out if its written well and makes sense and goes well with whats going in in the story. Sometimes though it can be dragged out to the point where you dont care if they get together or not. I’m on the fence if I’m honest. Yes, I loved Parker and Lily together in the first book. This one though it just seemed off to me. I dont know why…just felt wrong to me. Maybe its because of the complications and Lily’s stubbornness and I felt like she was kind of martyring herself in a way about being lonely and not wanting to give it a go with Parker because she ages slower. Why not take a chance on love? I know thats what Buzz was trying to tell her but she got real defensive and went off in a huff. She’s still got her issues. So, I’m not that mad at her. There’s still some unanswered questions about who the weirdo leaving notes is. I really want to know about Theresa. I just dont know about her. I dont know if she’s a victim or not. Meh I guess we’ll find out at some point. We still dont know 100% about Parker and Lily but there’s potential.
ARC – I voluntarily offered to review this book with no obligations and my opinions are honest
Lily was just recovering from the last murder investigation.
When she uncovers a dead body, she cannot leave it alone.
But not to worry, Smooshie is right there to help Lily to solve this case.
I loved the storytelling + the characters
The storytelling + the character’s build were awesome!
Lots of twists and turns in this cozy mystery! Shifter Lily has finally found a house that has lots of land where she can run free with no one finding out. Just her luck another dead body–and her prior landlord keeps checking on her!! What’s a shifter who has to keep that fact a secret and her lovable pit bull to do?
This is a fun series that I am sure you will enjoy!!
just plain fun cozy read; I look forward to more of the series.
This series is starting to grow on me! Thankful for the Pittie love! Good characters and thought really put into the how and why if the shifters!
A really fun read with charming characters!
