“I now pronounce you suspect and wife.”
High-end chef Fancy Bohannon is high tailing it home to small-town Texas to escape a professional scandal. But instead of cooking up a little R&R on her aunt’s goat farm, she finds herself head caterer in her cousin’s impending nuptials. Though her culinary plans go smooth as butter, this Hill Country wedding turns into a mountain of trouble after one … one of the wedding party is found dead.
When the sheriff sets his sights on the honeymooning groom as the main suspect, Fancy’s penchant for straight shooting could be the only remaining recipe for justice. Can she clear the newlywed’s name and corral the real killer?
Murder, She Goat is the first book in the Hill Country Cozy series. If you like twisty mysteries, zany characters, and female sleuths, you’ll love Lucy Jackson’s tasty whodunit.

Humorous southern cozy set in the Texas Hill County. Being a native Texan myself, I enjoyed all the country characters and their country speech. The story moves swiftly, and the mystery is entertaining.
Delightful! Lighthearted, quirky and fun! Definitely one I will be reading again. 🙂
“We, all of us,have our flaws,Fancy, every last one of us.”
When Fancy Bohannon returns to Engelheim Texas from her former life in San Francisco where she was a Zagat rated chef she’s there to cater her cousin’s wedding…. and “recover” from her relationship that ended horrendously. Aunt Peggy’s Goat Ranch may be just the place…. until the groom’s brother is found dead after the ceremony. It’s seems like everyone, including the Sheriff think Cody did it…but Fancy finds the ingredients presented don’t make a palatable recipe, and sets about finding the real murderer.
Set in the Hill Country of Texas, this is the first of what seems to be a fun series about food, friends, family and “whack-a-goat”. Highly recommended 5/5

This was a fun, quick read that I really enjoyed! Fancy was a wonderful protagonist, I loved the descriptions of her cooking and her dedication to her aunt. The book also kept me guessing right up until the very end. I can’t wait to read the next in the series!!
This is a pretty good story. It took a while to get to the murder. There are many suspects but the sheriff focuses on only one. So it takes Fancy, with a little help from the deputy. to figure out the murderer. That person I did not suspect. The goats are a nice addition though they don’t contribute much to the storyline. There is swearing used. I received a free copy. This is my voluntary opinion.
Who killed the womanizing groom? Was it the brother? The neighbor? Good mystery.
Fancy comes home to Texas after a failed relationship. She is going to cater her cousin’s wedding, and possibly decide if she stays or goes after, since she has nothing to return to in San Francisco. The day after the wedding Fancy goers back to the venue to pick up the rented dishes and finds a body laying face down by the pond! The sheriff is a chauvinist and a total idiot, but luckily the deputy is a good guy and smart. With Fancy’s help, she and the deputy get the murderer!
I enjoyed this story and I’m looking forward to reading more in this series.

3 1/2 stars. Goats, a wedding, a murder in a sweet little texas town. The characters were a bit over the top but the storyline was fine. Fancy, the main character, is catering her cousin’s wedding and finds the victim. Fancy’s back story is mentioned but not really explained. Was it ‘her’restaurant, if so why did she leave it? Her former boyfriend states that she’ll never work in the big city again. Seriously, he’s that influential? The sheriff is a country hick caricature, all bluster and dumb. Loved the goats and the country setting. Hopefully book two will explain Fancy’s backstory more and make the characters a bit more believable. Will read more by this author

First book I have read by this author and found it very enjoyable. The characters were quirky, the goats were adorable and the story was fast paced. The author did a good job of misdirection and I look forward to reading more of her books.
