FIRST IN THE NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLING CAT IN THE STACKS MYSTERY SERIES!Everyone in Athena, Mississippi, knows Charlie Harris, the good-natured librarian with a rescued Maine coon cat named Diesel that he walks on a leash. He’s returned to his hometown to immerse himself in books, but soon enough he’s entangled in a real-life thriller… A famous author of gory bestsellers and a former … gory bestsellers and a former classmate of Charlie’s, Godfrey Priest may be the pride of Athena, but Charlie remembers him as an arrogant, manipulative jerk—and he’s not the only one. Godfrey’s homecoming as a distinguished alumnus couldn’t possibly go worse: by lunch, he’s put a man in the hospital. By dinner, Godfrey’s dead.
Now it’s up to Charlie, with some help from Diesel, to paw through the town’s grudges and find the killer before an impatient deputy throws the book at the wrong person. But every last one of Charlie’s friends and co-workers had a score to settle with the nasty novelist. As if the murder wasn’t already purr-plexing enough…

Love all her books and characters.
What could be better than a library as center and of course adding in the cat. Totally enjoyed this story
I’ve read and loved this whole series
When Charlie’s high school rival, successful novelist Godfrey Priest, comes to down, Charlie isn’t too thrilled. Godfrey was always an ego driven jerk, and time and success haven’t changed any of that. But when Godfrey is killed and Charlie finds the body, he starts poking around trying to figure out who did it.
This series debut had lots of twists to the plot, even in the first 100 pages. The characters were real and fresh right out of the gate as well. I truly felt for them. I can’t wait to visit them with the next book in the series.
love all of her books
I really like these characters and have since read a few more of the series. It seems very believable and makes a place I might want to live. And the cat, Diesel, is a great addition without giving him ESP or other qualities that make it less connected.
This is a fun beach book. Once you get into the story you want to know what’ll happen next, so it’s definitely a page-turner. The storyline is not too complicated, but the characters are fun. Only problem with the book is that the finale occurred quickly and I had a couple of follow up questions —- but what about X? Didn’t they want to do Z? Nothing serious, but still slightly nagging. I’d give the next book in the series a try (but not in hardcover), as it was a fun read and I appreciated the depth of the characters.
I loved this book. I’ve since bought all of her “Cat in the Stacks” cozy mysteries. She’s a great writer and I love Charlie and Diesel and the other characters that you find in her books. I’ve read 3 of them in the past week! I can’t put them down!
Loved the peek into a gentility not much in evidence these days. Thank you for writing with panache! The use of vocabulary is so refreshing. Imagine – words with more than two syllables. Already reading the next book!!
Looking forward to her next books in this series
Nice when the cat is a great character just being a cat. Ending was surprising. Found the characters mostly likeable and liked the small Southern town feel. A good read.
This was such a fun book & I can’t wait to read others. The character puts me in mind of Cleveland Amory with his love of his sidekick!
Definitely would recommend it!
I enjoyed the library cats sixth sense when it came to crime. There were many suspects and the resolution was a surprise.
I really enjoyed the cat & the librarian
I really enjoyed this book. Had a lot going on. Not just about a librarian. The ending really surprised me.
This is one of my favorite series of books. The lovable characters, the intriguing story lines, and the surprise endings never fail to please.
Miranda James is always a good choice. Her books are well written and keep you entertained. I will always recommend the Cat in the Stacks Mysteries. I love DIesel and Charlie.
Who would not li a Main coon cat helping to solve mysteries the book is a great read.
I plan to read more books in this series; nice plotting and great characters and enough mystery to keep you guessing.
