A stroke of luck introduces Georgie to her favorite actor, and then thrusts her into a mystery she can’t resist investigating.Georgie Kaye is waiting for a pet portrait client when she wins a day pass for a behind-the-scenes visit to a movie staring her and her twin sister, Aleta’s, favorite actor, Dustin Stetson. Once on set, the feisty sexagenarian twins are enthralled watching a movie being … enthralled watching a movie being made, delighting in the thrill of celebrity and the delectable sweets catered on set. The movie-like dream crashes back to reality when the producer collapses and dies on set, apparently of a heart-attack.
Georgie can’t resist following her suspicions of foul play, and uses some fancy footwork to get herself and Aleta invited back for another day on the movie set. This time, Dustin Stetson takes a special interest in Aleta (and her fascinating feet), giving Georgie time to follow her hunches about why a rich movie producer ate a healthy meal and then keeled over dead.
Along with her detective ex-husband Stan, Georgie works to solve a mystery she is convinced is murder. Will they get the happy ending just like in the movies?
This is book 3 in the Pet Portrait Cozy mystery series, but can be enjoyed as a stand alone.

“Murder on the Movie Set” earns 5/5 Behind-the-Scenes Mysteries…Such Fun!
I am such a fan of this delightful ‘dynamic duo.’ Sexagenarians Georgia and Aleta are twins, and although opposites in many ways, they have some similarities…like favorite actors. Georgia and Aleta are thrilled with their behind-the-scenes access to the making of a movie starring their favorite actor Dustin Stetson…and of course, the sweets are overflowing at the craft service table. But, it’s the death of the producer that was not part of the script. That’s where it gets good. Sandi Scott has once again penned a very entertaining story, not very long at less than 130 pages, but don’t shy away because it’s not short on excitement. Georgia doesn’t believe it was a simple case of ‘natural causes’ having witnessed all the on-set tension with egos, desperation, and power struggles, and ingratiates herself onto the set an extra couple of days to pursue answers. Answers that could spell ‘Cut!’ for someone else. The rapport between the sisters is humorous and one that many sisters, like me, can identify with, and the connections with her ex-husband/detective Stan just adds to the out loud giggles. But beyond the fun characters, there is a clever well-paced mystery with several suspects with motive and opportunity to keep you guessing. There are animals, too, for us lovers of the ‘furry’ characters, but it is the humans that really are the star of the show…I highly recommended this series, and for newbies you can start with this third book easily enough.
Another Fun and Funny Murder Investigation
This fun cozy mystery takes place on a movie set close to Chicago. The plot is sweet and well done. There are several likely suspects. Most of the fun is the twins making their way around the set with outlandish stories. This is a great series! I bought this book and this is my honest review.
Pet portrait artist Georgia Faye cannot believe her luck when she wins a day pass for a behind the scenes visit on the movie set for her favorite actor Dustin Stetson. Who else would she bring along but her sister Aleta? They find themselves enjoying delectable sweets from the on-set caterer, excited to meet tons of celebrities, and fascinated by watching the movie being made from behind the scenes.
When the producer collapses and dies from an apparent heart attack, Georgie once again finds herself unraveling a mystery. She can’t help but have suspicions that foul play took place and works Dustin Stetson’s fascination with Aleta to get invited back to the set.
I love the hijinks of this story, the love-hate relationship between Georgia and her detective ex-husband Stan, and the sass and banter between Georgie and her sister Aleta. This is the third book in the series but it can be read as a standalone. It is filled with lots of madcap adventure, humor, mystery, and quirky characters.
I love these twins – the detectives in this series. They are older (in their sixties), wiser, zanier and a lot of fun! The plots in this series are always convoluted – making you rethink who might be the murderer. In this story, if it had not been for Georgie, the police might have accepted natural causes for the producer’s death. There is a lot of humor in these stories. I highly recommend them.
This is the third book in the series, and the fun just keeps continuing. There are laugh-out-loud moments that just make you keep going, because you want to see what’s going to happen next! Great plot, great characters, and simply the type of book/story that’s the norm for Sandi Scott! This cozy mystery takes place on a movie set and offers a plot that keeps you guessing till the very end! Another winning book by Sandi! Can’t wait for the next one! I was fortunate enough to receive this copy in advance in exchange for an honest review!
Sandi Scott has written another pleasant cozy mystery featuring her endearingly older twins, Georgie and Aleta. The quest to solve a murder is full of hilarity. The author throws in some romance for spice. This is an entertaining book.
Sandi Scott has done it again. This is the third book in this series “Pet Portraits Mystery”. I have read all three and I have enjoyed each of them very much. I love the way Sandi has written the twin sisters Georgie and Aleta. They are so cute together and you can just picture them when you are reading these stories. Then you have the wonderful interaction between Georgie and Stan her ex and also the local cop. This is a cozy mystery so if you are looking for lots of hard core mystery you will not find it in this story. But if you like a cute funny can’t wait to finish the book to see where it will go then you must read this book.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
You have got to read this book!!! The characters are great and the plot keeps you turning the pages just to see what could possibly go wrong next. Being a twin brings a whole new set of problems to sisters Georgie and Aleta. Georgie cannot help but get involved in solving mysteries. She is so curious and loves digging for the truth. Aleta just wants a nice quiet life, however, with such a crazy sister it is not to be. This is the third book in this series that I have read and the characters keep getting better with each new story. Anyone who loves cozy mysteries will absolutely love this book.
