I learned more about the Lake District in England. A good Mystery
I enjoyed this book, it kept me wanting not to put it down.
This was the first of this series that I read, and I enjoyed it so much that I have currently read 4 other books in the Skelgill series. The character descriptions make it possible to picture and almost hear the dialog, I love reading the descriptions of the beautiful Lake District countryside, and the plots mostly keep me guessing! A very satisfying read for me.
This is the first book in the series that I have read. It seemed to be ‘written’ by someone who at points was telling the story, such as what the people were doing or saying. Not normal. I had no idea ‘whodonit’
A Mystery that keeps you in Suspense to the end. Enjoyed reading it !
Almost gave up on this book because of the author’s use of three dollar words. I felt like the author was showing off his vocabulary. Glad I stuck with the reading because I would have missed a very enjoyable mystery.
Interesting new lead character and enjoyable read
I like inspector Skelgill and his team. Although a few things were quite predictable, overall it was not obvious who did it. The setting is interesting and a little unusual. The book was entertaining with a small glimpse into the literary world. I always enjoy learning a little bit about something new that is actually applicable to the plot. Overall entertaining.
I enjoyed this book. It wasn’t predictable and had interesting characters.
Didn’t like this novel. Boring. Not enough dialogue and what there was turned out to be stiff.
I had trouble reading this book. Couldn’t finish it. It seemed to be written in two different tenses. Also care for “luv” this and “luv” that. Probably won’t read another by this author
Stopped reading. Did not like it.
Another British thriller and crime solving detective. I will be looking for more books on this character.
Great cultural informant; even makes fishing interesting within the context of the land and its inhabitants. Good characterization.
Good twist on the old Ten Little Indians plot from Agatha Christie.
did not appreciate the distracting fishing scenes
Not a bad read, but reminiscent of Agatha Christie. Not as convoluted or last minute characters thrown in to confuse and befuddle,
Set in the Lakes region of England, also briefly London and Scotland, this who-done-it is itself done well. Two deaths within hours on a desolate island in an English lake raise suspicions of a local detective. Written in an erudite British style reminiscent of Agatha Christie, comedic touches lighten the tale.
An excellent mystery…well written, good vocabulary. As a Brit, I usually favour ?British written mysteries, due to their being ‘properly’ written. It’s a joy to read a well written book today….this has strength, good characterisation, strong examples of back bone, and a jolly good story. What more do you want?
Enjoyed this mystery novel very much. If you have any interest in fishing the DI is an avid fisherman which makes it all the more fun. The detectives and suspects are all well drawn.
