Hope feels she needs to relax and unwind. When chocolate and a day at the spa do not work, she opts for yoga. Arriving early she finds the yoga instructor dead. So much for relaxing.
This is the third book in the Hope Hadley cozy mystery series. The characters are quirky and interesting. The big difference is she gets to work with the police and I found she vastly improved her approach with suspects. I enjoyed the sibling banter. The book is from Hope’s point of view giving a glimpse into her inner thoughts, reactions and actions. Although, the mystery seemed a bit like the one in book two, I found it interesting, with great suspects and a number of clues. This book seemed more well rounded than the first two in the series and I look forward to the brother and sister team solving more crimes.
Murder of a Yoga Instructor earns 4.5/5 Lotus Positions…Entertaining!
Murder. Kidnapped. Arson. How is it that Hope continues to find herself in perilous predicaments? But, her genes from a law enforcement family and seven years playing a detective on the Sassy Sleuth television show have come in handy. Another case solved! Hope had relocated to Hollywood, Florida, after her show was cancelled and roles for a forty-year-old woman dried up. Now back in her hometown, opening a no-kill animal shelter, reconnecting and settling old wounds with family, and enjoying a budding romance with a local restaurant owner, she still finds channeling her Victoria Sassy character continues to present itself. The reward of chocolates, a spa day, and spending time with her boyfriend didn’t seem to be helping her de-stress. Yoga. She hadn’t continued with yoga classes since she left L.A., and she was excited about the idea of centering herself with meditation. Arriving early to her class…oh, no! The yoga instructor is dead!
Meredith Potts’s Hope Hadley drama is a traditional cozy with a murder occurring early in the story, endearing characters, family and friends but still entertaining from Hope’s perspective. The drama is an entertaining cozy introducing the family dynamic and conflicts with brother’s official law enforcement role along with some personal peril, and satisfying ending.
Narrator Rachel Carr reads in more of a traditional out loud manner with some changes in dialect to portray various female characters, emotions, and tone of the drama. For a reader the he said she replied I asked is just reference but reading all of those is a bit annoying. It is a challenge for female narrators, like Rachael Carr, to portray well male voices, but the story provided enough references that listeners is more than aware of who’s talking. Her rousing performance is slightly over eager in speed, but none of these issues effected my ultimate enjoyment…fun! Book two down, onto book three!
Next in the series. Loved how Hope worked with her brother in this one. It gave them a stronger bond as siblings. This quick mystery was worth the listen. Rachel Carr did another good job keeping the story lively.
I received this audiobook as a gift, and this is my unsolicited review.
This was in an Audible Boxed Set as Books 1 – 5 and I listened to book 1 earlier this year. These books are for young girls and would be entertaining for them. I found it hard to believe that anyone would answer questions about murder from a person that is not a lawyer, police officer or another law enforcement officer.
It’s fun to read a series and see what is happening to the characters!
