In book one of the Lilah Love launch duet, meet Lilah Love, the politically incorrect FBI agent who says what no one else dares and fears her dark side is a little too dark. Note: this book ends in a cliffhanger and continues in Murder Girl. The story…As an FBI profiler, it’s Lilah Love’s job to think like a killer. And she is very good at her job. When a series of murders surface—the victims … murders surface—the victims all stripped naked and shot in the head—Lilah’s instincts tell her it’s the work of an assassin, not a serial killer. But when the case takes her back to her hometown in the Hamptons and a mysterious but unmistakable connection to her own life, all her assumptions are shaken to the core.
Thrust into a troubled past she’s tried to shut the door on, Lilah’s back in the town where her father is mayor, her brother is police chief, and she has an intimate history with the local crime lord’s son, Kane Mendez. The two share a devastating secret, and only Kane understands Lilah’s own darkest impulses. As more corpses surface, so does a series of anonymous notes to Lilah, threatening to expose her. Is the killer someone in her own circle? And is she the next target?

I’m knocking a couple of stars off because of the construction of the book. It’s more like a chapter…so no real “ending”. I really don’t like that ploy, which is to get you to buy the next one, I guess. Other than that…. rather an interesting, brazen main character. Couldn’t ever decide if I liked her or not, but she was intriguing. Bordered on unrealistic in terms of her relationships with other characters, and same for the plot. But sho knows since there was no conclusion
The title and the author caught my attention then hooked once the pages are turned. I do not often get to read this author so this was a treat. This is also fitting into my reading taste of late when I notice too the character is a FBI profiler. This also will have a series of murders so that promised intensity at times and it delivered. But folks it is not a serial killer according to Lilah. All paths go to her place she grew up so things will and do get deep. Now with family and history in the picture this gives you alot to sink yourself into. You left with questions though needing answers so be ready to devour to get to the next one.
I love a good suspenseful book and if you add a romance side story within the pages, I’m always up for it. Lilah is an interesting and amazing heroine that you want to be her friend in good and bad moments. Kane is the dark knight that will do everything to protect his family but his heart was always hers. Their story is a very bumpy ride but so worth it.
A must read series.
Hard to keep up with. Too much switching back and forth with the memories. Just start to figure it out and it is over with no ending.
I have never read anything from Lisa Renee Jones & this sounded interesting, so I went for it and I am so glad I did. I was hooked from the beginning & finished the book in one day. I absolutely had to know what would happen next. I find the characters so interestingly broken. I don’t know how to explain that but will understand when you read it. The writing is fabulous, with a unique plot & subplots. The twists and turns are on par with any rollercoaster while the villains are so abhorrent. My only negative comment is about the cliffhanger at the end. I am not a fan of cliffhangers, especially when the story is so good. I want the “period at the end of the sentence”.
Facts: Murder Girl is book #1 of Lilah Love series by NY Times, and USA Today best-selling author Lisa Renee Jones. It is told from the heroine’s point of view with a cliffhanger ending. Genres: Women Sleuths | Romantic Suspense. Tropes: Alpha hero | love triangle
A thrilling, heart pounding romantic suspense. Brimming with action, conspiracies that lead to eye popping plot twists and a forbidden romance, I couldn’t put this book down, especial since it reminded me somewhat of the series The Blacklist.
In Murder Notes, author Lisa Renee Jones, introduces Lilah Love, one of the FBI’s best profilers. While working on a murder case in LA where everyone thinks is serial killer while she believes it to be an assassin, Lilah stumbles on clues that lead her to believe the murder is tied to the reason she left her home town.
When she arrives back home to investigate another similar case, she’s not only faced with a new murder, but also her brother the police chief, her father the mayor and her old flame, Kane Mendez, the area’s crime lord’ son. Kane not only knows her heart, he also shares the secret behind her departure two years back. With the body count rising, Lilah isn’t sure who she can trust, but one thing is for sure, she isn’t afraid.
I really enjoyed getting to know Lilah, she is one tough cookie who doesn’t care what other people think about her directness. She’s a blunt force to be reckoned with and I can’t wait to keep reading about her and the mysteries she’s uncovering.
Murder Notes is a suspenseful murder mystery that kicks off the Lilah Love Series. Lilah Love is a tough, badass FBI profiler with a big secret she needs to keep hidden. As she investigates several murders and tries to ascertain if it’s the work of a serial killer or an assassin, she finds she may be the common denominator in the investigation. Secrets, lies, mystery, intrigue, and danger keep you on your toes and turning the page from beginning to end. Totally loved this suspenseful thriller and the ending…..OMG! it left me hanging and I cannot wait for the next book!
Good book but recent the cliff hanger.
didn’t like the cliff-hanging ending
Great beginning of a mystery suspense story. A real page turner
She left it unfinished. You had to buy another book to see how it ends. I did not buy the follow up
Amazing book other then her potty mouth.
Great book, its the first book of this series I have read but really enjoy it
disappointing, ended 1/2 way thru the story. sad way to get you to purchase the next book in the installment.
Enjoyed the book.
Do not waste your time. Just as the plot comes to a climax, the book ends, and you have to buy the next book to find out how it ends!
I liked the book but it was definitely kind of scary and haunting
I was curious about the Lilah Love series, and I am glad I read this first installment. I do not feel obligated to read anymore of the series. Lilah Love is a hard, hard woman to even like. I admired her “I don’t care what people think about me” attitude, but Lisa Renee Jones takes this a bit far. Lilah Loves is portrayed as an expert FBI special agent, but in installment number 1, no case was solved. This first installment was apparently written so we would get to know her before we actually see how she solves a complicated crime. Lilah Love has a boyfriend. I cannot figure out what he sees in her though. There is no history given as to how they got together, and other than the intimate relations, I have a hard time comprehending Rich still wanting a relationship with her. Lilah is cruel to him, and she mentally tells us it is because of her past. While in a prior relationship, Lilah suffered a horrific experience years ago. Her then boyfriend Kane was there for her and “took care of it”. However, her experience isn’t that unique from what other women have had to endure, but they are able to overcome and not let it create a Lilah. She will not admit she still loves Kane either. Lilah Love is assigned a case in the city where she grew up. Lilah’s family is complicated and as cold really as she is. There is so much going on in this case, it was hard to keep straight. Since I could not connect with her, I simply finished the book so see where it went. It didn’t go anywhere except lead into the second book in the series. I’m not curious enough to buy it and find out, however.
I would have given it more stars but you had to buy a second book to get ending.
Excellent!
