This is fun romp with a designer who loves a good mystery. So when bridezilla drops dead in the shop she works in and her first love is accused of murder, she starts working on her suspect list and tries to hide her investigation from the handsome detective. The reader keeps you interested and does extremely well during intense moments.
A light, shorter cozy mystery that takes place in a lazy beach town in California. A young, aspiring clothes designer who works in a wedding dress and accessories salon finds herself in the middle of a murder investigation when a client drops dead during a gown fitting. It’s a quick read and the protagonist, Max, is assisted by a cute associate, Keiko, whose dry wit and sharp mind are appealing. A handsome detective provides support to Max, also.
Just discovered a new author who I really like. Karen Sue Walker did a very good job on this story, supplying interesting characters and mysterious intrigue. I read a lot, and whenever I start a new series and author, I’m wary. There are some real stinkers out there. This is a cozy mystery, nothing gritty or horrible, if that’s what you like to read. This was just my style and I appreciate VERY MUCH, how Karen edited before publishing. You can’t believe, (or maybe you’ve seen for yourself) how many stories are in the e-reader world that have just been thrown together and published. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to read the next book in this series.
I enjoyed it. Great story and interesting characters.
I received this book for free from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This was a cute but nothing special type of cozy mystery. It centers around a bridal shop in a small town where everyone pretty much knows each other and sits a tad on the predictable side. I really feel the book had great potential, but unfortunately it was just ok for me. The dialogue is a bit jumpy and the characters are not fully developed but it’s a light and easy read. The killer was easy to figure out and the story lacked any real emotion, giving it a monotone type writing style that I didn’t overly care for. It felt like the author was just going through the motions and didn’t really invest any feelings into the story or her characters. Max is very likeable, albeit a bit bland, and I really liked the addition of Keiko. She actually stole the book for me even though she comes off as a little robotic. As far as the rest, there were really too many characters and you never really got to know any of them. They kept stopping by the shop with no real purpose. It was a bit strange. Like they were just added for the sake of having more people.

I really enjoyed this clean, cozy mystery. I learned some things along the way about Japanese culture and about lace! Max is a very relatable, very kind young woman who has made some tough decisions about sacrificing her ‘career’ to help out her family and it is rewarded in a very special way while she works out who committed the crime in this first installment of an entertaining mystery series.
What an enjoyable read. Max , a wedding dress consultant/designer, gets involved in solving a murder when her best friend is accused. This who-done- it was cleverly written, the murderer exposed at the end , with fun likeable characters.
