Bailey is a Park Ranger, just trying to do her job. She’s also a serial killer’s newest obsession. Dylan, a sheriff’s deputy, is determined to keep Bailey safe and to help stop the serial killer. Neither expected to develop feelings for the other.
Excellent book. I truly enjoyed the characters, the mystery, and the trip through the Okefenokee Swamp.
I received a paperback copy of this book from the author. My thoughts and opinions are my own and without bias or favor.
There’s something especially unique in Debbie Herbert’s ability to tell a story, and that’s her gift of turning the story’s location itself into a character. In this case, it’s the remote, eerie, and very creepy Okefenokee Georgia swamp. Bailey Covington is a reclusive swamp park ranger who prefers to work alone, but comes across suspicious activity which could be linked to the disappearance of several women. When she reports what she’s found to her boss, she finds herself paired with Dylan Armstrong, the county sheriff’s deputy.
Bailey starts to get too close to the truth, and becomes the latest obsession of a serial killer. She’s had pain in her life, and is slow to trust but must work with Dylan who needs her expertise and wants to help her. The romantic tension between the two is delightfully done. If you love suspense, nonstop twists and turns, and extremely likeable characters to root for, don’t miss this terrific romantic thriller. Highly recommended – 5 stars!
Murder in the Shallows is another amazing read. It is a fast-paced suspenseful read with wonderful characters. Dylan and Bailey were a great couple. This intriguing storyline pulls you in and keeps you on the edge of your seat until the end. It has twists and turns that will keep you guessing until the end. The storyline flowed seamlessly and the vivid storytelling makes you feel like you are a part of the world that this talented author built. I can’t wait to read what this talented author writes next.
MURDER IN THE SHALLOWS by Debbie Herbert took me on a breathless ride. The suspense (turn the lights up and watch your back!), and a good dose of romantic tension, build up to a dramatic ending that’s hugely satisfying—to the very last page. I highly recommend this book!
I loved this book with mysteries stacked inside puzzles and suspense around every bend in the swamp. Atmospheric and fast-paced, I couldn’t put it down, but I was sorry when I finished it because I wanted to stay in the story a little longer. Debbie Herbert is one of today’s finest romance writers!
Murder in the Shadows by Debbie Herbert is her latest mystery set in the South.
I received an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Note: this review contains Spoilers!
Oh. My. Gosh! Every book that I read by this author is better than the last! The characters are amazing. I can certainly understand Bailey Covington’s behavior. I’d be shy of men too. And Sheriff’s deputy Dylan Armstrong is the perfect deputy who wants to do everything by the book. He knows what he thinks he knows, but is big enough to admit when he is wrong. And stubborn enough to find proof when he isn’t.
The action is fast paced. I had to stop reading in a couple of place to get my heart to slow down! Don’t think I’ll ever go camping again.
I thought I had the killer figured out but only knew for sure about 4 minutes before Bailey. I was not expecting that!
And then there’s the ending. You’ll have to read it to find out.
So, if you need a good mystery that will keep you up at night, you need to read Murder in the Shadows! I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
I loved this book, it was captivating to see how Bailey reacted toward Dylan and even more with Ace and discovering her past little by little.
She is persistent, intelligent and very courageous as well as attentive to other even if she was hurt deeply in the past i loved that about her.
Dylan is loyal, he loves justice and Bailey reaction to him is a mystery he wants to solve even if its priority stay the investigation about the missing women.
The intrigue is well built, yes i could guess part of it but it was so well written that i stayed immersed and wanted to finish in one sitting.
a great romance suspense.
Loved it!
Liked the setting and characters were perfect.
Murder in the Shallows was a page-turner from the very beginning. Bailey was caught up in something that she didn’t understand, but she wasn’t going to walk away from it. She was going to fight for the missing women being held somewhere in her swamp.
Dylan was a good cop and a good guy who just wanted to help people, especially Bailey. The moment he met the park ranger, he knew she was something special. When they both got embroiled in the same mystery, he was more than willing to work with her to find the women.
Their love story was fast and to the point, but the unraveling of the mystery was not. The author took us on a tour of the Okefenokee Swamp in Georgia in a way I would never take otherwise. The ending was all twists and turns you don’t see coming. I loved how Bailey decided to face her demons and take back her life, and how Dylan was there to support her through it but not insist on fixing it for her. If you love a good Harlequin intrigue where the focus is on the mystery and the romance is easy going and not the center of the plot, you’ll love Murder in the Shallows.
Fascinatingly realistic details of the flora and fauna in an edge-of-the-world swamp sprinkle this story and balance the steadily building threat to both hero and heroine. The heroine shines with her swamp knowledge and invincible will to live. She overcomes impossible fears from the past to get there. For those who like their romance mixed with gritty suspense and a damaged heroine, MURDER IN THE SHALLOWS is for you.
Another great book by Debbie Herbert! When you start reading you enter the world of Bailey Covington who lives as a recluse with her only neighbor a mile down the road. Only to have a sudden change of events when Dylan Armstrong, a police officer, comes to her and asks for her help on a case. But history always comes back to you. When you read Murder in the Shallows you are thrown in a heart-stopping, unpredictable book that will have you at the edge of your seat.
Murder in the Shallows is another great book from Debbie Herbert.
It have me guessing from the start who the murderer was and really didn’t see it coming.
Bailey has become the lastest serial killer obsession. The sheriff’ deputy, Dylan, will help her but he couldn’t predict the connection that they will share. This will have to wait until they solve the murders and to prevent the killer to strike again.
I have received an arc of this book from the author.
