Autumn has come to Cedar County. It’s harvest time. The trees and vines in the orchards and vineyards are heavy with ripening fruit. For the tourists flocking to the tasting rooms of the region’s vineyards, the land- scapes and seascapes provide an elaborate tapestry of rich colors and textures.
However, there is one discordant note in this pastoral splendor, the crumpled body of an international … international wine maven has been discovered in a steeply terraced vine- yard of merlot grapes. As Sheriff Ray Elkins quickly discovers, the roots of this crime run from the legendary chateaus of Burgundy to the exclusive watering holes of Chinese billionaires.

Aaron Stander always pulls out the best and worst of his characters. Always enjoyable.
I enjoyed this book
I read the entire series, the early books were dreadful, not proofread or editted. This author is a Luddite who makes an ass of himself when he incorporates references to technology, he seems really stuck in the past even though the strories are set in this millenium. They started getting better and by this one I actually enjoyed reading it. The plot was well developed with some interesting twists and it centered on the mystery and steered away from the main characters eccentric behavior and his fixation on artisinal cheeses. Unfortunately it is the final book of the series!
The whole series is available for free from Amazon Unlimited, I wouldn’t recommend pay more than $.99 for any of them.
Oh the wineries…..they bring a whole other set of folks. I’m so happy to find out I was hating on the right dude. I almost became unhinged when Simone got snatched! But I think my favorite things are the ‘big lake paddles’. I’ve never paddled Lake Michigan, but definitely would like to some day. Also, I’ve been getting a kick out of “Cedar County”. Thanks for not revealing too many local secrets Aaron.
This starts as a little murder in a laid back part of the Michigan wine country but steadily ramps up to a “hold onto your hat” full blown thriller. A good story though there could have been more character development; perhaps that was done in books 1-7. Worth the read.
A quick, enjoyable read. Great for beach or airplanes.
A good story with a few twists. A good who-done-it.
Easy and enjoyable read with decent amount of suspense.
A pleasant read but very predictable
The mystery was great but what really intrigued me was learning about the wine industry in Michigan. Being a lover of wines, I was actually shocked to see that there are over 25 different major wineries in the region.
Good book, good character s.
An outlandish and unbelievable plot line. More in the nature of sci-fi than crime drama.
lost interest quickly
Not exactly great literature, but an easy read that I did willingly read to the end.
I know the area. It’s our favored place in Michigan
As a MIchigander, love Stander’s books. Well- written and captivating.
Goiod read for a stormy night.
very well written. Kept my attention
Solid writing, but resolution of the mystery was a bit rushed. Overall, entertaining read.
good characters, well written mystery. Depictions of the area are very realistic. Makes me miss Northern MI and the people there. I have read all the Elkins books.
