This was a Fun one to read!
Reading this book I felt like I was watching “life”. The dialogue was so real, genuine and true to character ~ I could just hear the voices in my head and imagine the scenes playing out. I enjoyed the banter between Maggie & the Donahue Brothers, but I simply loved Ashanti. Ashanti is one of the best secondary characters I have read and for me, she made this story.
I have not read any of the previous Texas-Sized Mysteries, but rest assured I am a now a fan of Michelle Francik.
This book kept me guessing from beginning to end, and I loved that. At no time did I have the villain figured out with this story. I also really enjoyed that we got to see Maggie, Susan, and Reed again, as well as got to meet a couple more of the infamous Donahue brothers. I got such a kick out of watching Maggie solve a murder to keep her mind off being so very pregnant. There were a couple of continuity things that didn’t quite match between this book and the previous Donahue Brothers book; number and gender of Donahue siblings, knowing about the baby’s sex, what the baby’s sex actually was. Though I can totally forgive this last one, since right up until the point I came screaming into this world, my mother’s doctor was certain sure I wasn’t going to be born a girl. He also thought I’d be patient for another several weeks but that didn’t happen either… Now, after meeting Miss Ashanti, I’m very curious to see what’s brewing between her and one Adam Donahue.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher.
Murder in the Maternity Ward is absolutely wonderful. I loved it. The characters are amazing. I love the dynamics of the two pregnant women. Ashanti and Maggie are interesting. So funny and cute. And the Donahue brothers are wonderful. I love how they all worked together to solve the murder.
The mystery has so many twists and turns that keep you guessing. This book was impossible to put down. It is such a great read!
Absolutely love Ashanti, what a hoot! I hope her & Adam stay together and raise baby Jayla and some siblings. Maggie n Garrett are a powerhouse couple and will be great parents to Walker and his future siblings.
The other characters, Nurse Jackson is a nurse I would’ve loved to have had when I was having our babies. The other U.S. Marshals were ok. But the mystery part of the story was dead, no pun intended.
Murder in the Maternity Ward by Michelle Francik is A Texas Sized Mystery. Maggie Donahue is a U.S. Marshall currently on maternity leave as she awaits the birth of her first child. At her checkup that morning, Maggie had high blood pressure along with a rapid heartbeat which have landed her in the hospital overnight for observation. She hears a thump overhead and then while in the bathroom, blood falls on down upon her (yuck). Maggie is not one for sitting idle and decides to snoop around. She encounters Ashanti Jones who is also pregnant and curious. The pair dig into the crime in between naps, bathroom breaks and frequent stops for nourishment. Can Maggie wrap up the case before her baby is born? Murder in the Maternity War is a humorous mystery. I laughed and smiled my way through the story. I thought the book was well-written, moved along at a zippy pace and had well crafted characters. They were realistic characters with great personalities especially Adam and Ashanti (great over-the-top characters). I like that Susan and Reed from Murder and a Pinch of Rosemary are included in the story. Murder in the Maternity War can be read as a standalone. Michelle Francik certainly captured what it is like to be in the last stages of a pregnancy. You have to go to the bathroom constantly, you are tired, and you are constantly hungry (and can devour great quantities of food). Murder in the Maternity Ward has a delightful mystery that will keep you guessing. I would love more books featuring Maggie and Ashanti. Murder in the Maternity Ward is a book that I did not want to end.
There is a lot of humor in the cozy mystery Murder in the Maternity Ward! I love that these two very pregnant women were busy solving a homicide. All the main characters in this book are a lot of fun and very well characterized. There are so many suspects and possible motives that I was kept guessing until the end. I highly recommend this book.
