Situated in the rolling hills of England’s pastoral Cotswolds, the Abbey is a charming Bed & Breakfast allowing its guests to taste the pleasures of rank and prestige from a bygone era—until murder slams face first onto its welcome mat.
When the victim turns out to be someone close to both Maggie and Laurent, they leave their vineyard in France to say goodbye—and to find out why.
Once in … why.
Once in England, they discover that the tranquil countryside of Shelley and Wadsworth can be every bit as treacherous as the most sinister souk in the backstreets of Marseilles.
What Maggie also discovers is that if she ever hopes to be able to live with herself—or face Laurent with her own guilt—she’ll need to find the killer…
… preferably before she ends up face down in one of the Abbey’s bucolic fishing ponds.

This mystery series was a wonderful discovery. This book has a great main character, Maggie, and you watch her go through the machinations of solving the murder of her husband’s best friend.
I’m a mystery lover and didn’t have a clue whodunit. Excellent character development, delightful insights into French countryside and its people, and the story didn’t have a single dead spot.
I’m currently reading this, and love it. Strongchracters, good mystery, and it’s well written, holding my attention…..I want to read more from this author……..I’ve now finished the book, and loved it. So often these mystery books are wishy washy, but this was worth the time spent. Thoroughly enjoyable, suspenseful, and I look forward to more…thank you.
A little slow on the start, but really drew me in. Kept turning the pages to see what was going to happen and who did it. The main characters were well developed and reacted in real life ways to the situations. A very well-written book. I will look for more by this author.
It was an unusual book in that it kept giving clues pointing to various characters in the book. Many twists and turns of the events kept pointing to other people I had not considered before. There was a surprise ending when the murderer was revealed at the very end. It was a very entertaining book. I would definitely recommend it for anyone who enjoys a good “whodunit.”
It developed the characters well
This series is delightful.
Author could use a good proofreader
Good read…Maggie is a strong female lead character, well done keeping a nice balance of strong female lead with family life, working, and of course, murder!
Enjoy this series a lot. The characters, the setting, and the plots are intriguing and enjoyable. Look forward to reading others.
This is not only a good mystery but is well-written. I read it straight through and enjoyed it thoroughly.
Fun book, love the setting.
I found it boring, didnt care to finish it.
I love the whole Maggie Newberry Mysteries series. I highly recommend them. Engaging characters that you grow to love, fast-paced, funny, twists and turns of plot, you will find yourself drawn into the story and anxious to see what happens next. Takes place in Paris and the south of France so you will a little history as well. Don’t miss this adventure!
Somewhat romantic but not so that it took over the book. The relationship between the main character and her husband just added to the story. She found out more about her hubby in this book and their relationship only grew stronger. It was a light-hearted look at a political statement, too. Again, it did not take over the book. I have read this and three other books from BookBub in less than a month. Did not want to put this book down until I finished it.
A good fast paced mystery that exercises the grey cells. This is the first one I’ve read and now I want to read the whole series.
This could easily be a script for Midsommer Murders. Takes place in an Abbey in England (of course), The posh people staying for the weekend are there for the funeral of a murdered owner, and it seems like nearly everyone has a motive. Many hidden secrets and past relationships are revealed. Accusations are tossed around, a second murder occurs, an attempted murder occurs, a fox hunt takes place, a cottage is blown up, and the case is solved satisfactorily in the end. All we needed was Barnaby to solve it quicker than the local constabulary could.
Good read, but main characters were a bit selfish. It seemed they were getting better when I read the latest in the series.
Loved the series
It’s the type of book you wish you could sit down and read it all in one sitting
I like all her books. Went back and read them all again. I love the characters and the images created of the vineyard and all the places the main characters end up. I must say that Maggi ends up in the most difficult situations. It would be nerve wracking to have her as a real mom or wife.
