Some say that Saint-Rémy-de-Provence is the most beautiful village in all of France. That’s especially true at Christmastime when the scent of baked gingerbread mingles with the fragrance of evergreen boughs and wafts deliciously through the village’s quaint cobblestone lanes. It’s hard to believe anything sinister could be waiting in any of its many charming streets and alleyways. But when … when American ex-pat Maggie Newberry finds a pregnant, homeless teenager there she’s thrust into a whirling maelstrom of enmity and treachery that quickly reveals in devastating clarity that not all families are created equal.
In fact, some are so badly damaged nothing can fix them.
Except possibly murder.

Nicely written but not for first time readers. There was the supposition that earlier works had been read. Characters were not well introduced as they could have been in a stand alone
I loved the interesting and caring characters and the well developed plot
I love stories that take place in France. This is a solid story with twists and turns. I would love to see this made into a mini series.
If you’re looking for a new series to start with great characters, this is an excellent choice! In fact, I’m thinking about rereading from Book #1! Enjoy! These books have murder, suspense, friendships, romance, and the French wine country too!!
A great mystery !
I like the series and all her characters. I also love Ms Lewis’s description of the different cities in France in her book’s.
This book takes place during December. An expatriate American has lunch with a British author and her agent. She hopes to get published. The author is killed and her pregnant niece is the chief suspect. She has her baby in the American’s shed on the property of her husband’s winery. She takes care of the baby while investigating the crime.
I enjoyed this mystery.
A cosy mystery but well written, characters are nicely fleshed out and there are enough story lines to hold your interest. Quite enjoyable.
Nice lite reading. Consistently good from this writer
I love the Maggie books! She’s funny and smart and interesting, and finds herself a mystery around every corner, it seems. When I want a relaxing, fun read I go to this series. There’s humor and mystery and fun in every book. It’s been a while since I’ve had time to read, and now that I have some free time I’ll be grabbing the ones I haven’t read yet, propping up my feet and having a Maggie marathon!
Loved this book and recommend others I know to read it!
I love this series!
This is such a fun series. I love the characters. Everyone needs a Laurent! This was a great Christmas read.
I love the descriptions of the French countryside. I also very much enjoyed the characters. The relationship dynamics was emotionally compelling. The murder mystery kept me thinking all through the book. I found the book to be quire enjoyable and would certainly recommend it.
A visit with characters that I know from previous books is like a visit to old friends. You know how things will go but want to hear the story anyway.
I liked that it was in France, it made me feel like I had a little mini Christmas vacation with all the French cuisine and customs. The mystery was fun because it wasn’t obvious.
The author makes the French countryside come alive.
It was worh reading but little too unrealistic
There was a lot happening in this book and I was kept constantly entertained and intrigued. Loved the characters, who all came across as very real. A delightful read!
