Some say that Saint-Rémy-de-Provence is the most beautiful village in all of France. That’s especially true at Christmastime when the scent of baked gingerbread mingles with the fragrance of evergreen boughs and wafts deliciously through the village’s quaint cobblestone lanes. It’s hard to believe anything sinister could be waiting in any of its many charming streets and alleyways. But when … when American ex-pat Maggie Newberry finds a pregnant, homeless teenager there she’s thrust into a whirling maelstrom of enmity and treachery that quickly reveals in devastating clarity that not all families are created equal.
In fact, some are so badly damaged nothing can fix them.
Except possibly murder.

Interesting murder mystery set in France
Interesting characters and plot. Couldn’t put it down! Love a happy ending!
Do not like cliff hangers
very enjoyable series
I enjoyed the mystery, the intertwining stories, and pretending I was in France.
Good characters – especially if you follow the series. It’s a good read.
Enjoy the book except the words in French are not explained
I’ve enjoyed all of Susan Kiernan-Lewis’s books in the Maggie Newberry series. I find Maggie and Laurent to be a fascinating couple in how they work together to solve their issues. The writing is clear and easy for readers to step into the story. I love the books.
Laurent and Maggie and the South of France….what’s not to like. Saint-Remy is one of the cutest villages in France and I enjoyed the descriptions in this book.
This ‘who done it’ was quite delightful. Characters were believable, the plot interesting and foreshadowing didn’t give away the murderer before the end. Interacting with a busy family as well as the location in France and French words throughout added pleasant elements.
The book was okay but not outstanding. I know French so the French mistakes bothered me, but at the same time I was happy to read a book with limited French used.
I thoroughly enjoyed the book and will be looking for other books about Maggie, her delightful family and her unraveling of the puzzles she encounters.
The story was very entertaining. I have read this author before and will continue to as I appreciate well developed characters.
I have read several of this author’s books. I love the setting. They have evolved in a good way so they make more sense than the second and third ones did,
The mystery is pretty good and the characters are good,
.
Love this series, enjoy getting around France
I have read several in this series, and will read more. Entertaining, good read.
Christmas is coming… a murder, a baby, and all is well
A very enjoyable read.
One of my favorite authors!
I didn’t experience quite as much “atmosphere” as I had hoped, but I enjoyed the characters, the relationships, and the mystery. Now that I’m aware of this series, I hope to find earlier volumes.
