Things were finally looking up for Douglas Tanner. His divorce was about to be final. His construction company was doing better than ever and he was ready to start a new beginning. He just hadn’t expected that new beginning included his long time friend and daughter of his business partner. But just as he expresses his new found feelings for Stacey, his soon to be ex-wife is found dead in the … bottom of Lake George one day before he was to sign the divorce papers.
And Doug is the prime suspect. Not just in his wife’s murder. But also her lover’s disappearance.
New York State Trooper Stacey Sutten had just finished her rescue swimmer certification course and finally had some time to relax. Or so she thought as she’s called to a search and rescue mission. Only there was no rescue and the body she found just happened to be the wife of the man she was falling in love with.
As Doug and Stacey’s romance heats up, so does the case. One damning piece of evidence after the other lead the police to Doug’s door. Caught between trying to prove Doug’s innocent and doing her job, Stacey finds herself in the hot seat. Just when she thinks it can’t get any worse, she’s investigated as a possible accomplice.
Stacey must find out who really killed Mary, why they are hell bent on framing herself and the man she loves, before both of them get good look at the inside of a jail cell.

Stacey Sutten, a New York State Trooper, just finished her SCUBA Unit training. It was difficult and physically challenging but that did not deter the woman! When she got home that evening, she rewarded herself with a little down time on the deck, to soak up some afternoon rays. She was surprised when Doug Tanner joined her. Not only was Doug was her dad’s business partner, but he was practically a member of their family.
That quiet space was short lived. In a matter of hours, a body was found in Paradise Bay. That is when tragedy and chaos replaced the tranquility of small town living. It is clear someone is being set up, but why? And who do you trust?
Bottom line, this one is a nail biter! I could NOT put it down. Seems that is due to Jen Talty’s storytelling magic. I appreciate that talent and it is one reason I am reading this series back-to-back. When the series set came out, I got it and am so glad I did. Love the setting, the characters, the mystery, and the chemistry lessons…not to mention just the right amount of heat.
Talty never disappoints and Murder in Paradise Bay is a great example.

Stacey, the Trooper with no filter, realizes her feelings for Doug, her dad’s business partner, have shifted towards a romantic nature. She has known Doug for years and they have always been close friends. After Doug’s debacle of a marriage ends, Doug’s thoughts and feelings go beyond friendship with Stacey as well. Just as everything starts moving forward, everything turns upside down with the murder of Doug’s soon-to-be ex-wife because Doug is a suspect.
This story is well developed and well written. I recommend this book because it touches you on so many levels. There’s love, family, friendship, and justice with humor and levity to make it so relatable.
