Life is good indeed, especially if you’re a thirty-something expat living in an area of Provence where people would kill to live. And do! When Maggie’s new best friend is arrested for murder Maggie is determined to find the real culprit. Trouble is, there are a few roadblocks in her way: like an old friend on the verge of divorce who’s chosen Maggie’s house to have her nervous breakdown in, an … ex-paramour who has the power to make Maggie’s life miserable—and does—and oh, yes, a killer as warped and determined as any Maggie has encountered in her four years living in France.

A delightful mystery with likeable characters.
Really enjoyed this book and loved the characters. Lots of twists and turns so not easy to predict the outcome. Looking forward to reading more by this author
Character’s are great. Starting with friend being arrested for murder, then other friend coming from the states with her daughter. How their worker’s fall in love with the little girl. Plus she gets to see how good her husband is with children. Love the ending
great characters who have history to one another and potentially with the reader. The history does not decrease the flow of this story, but only grows the depth of character and shows how each of us face our own battles. Very enjoyable read.
I loved reading a mystery set in a part of the world I’ve not visited. The descriptions were beautiful, the characters believable, and the story line
excellent.
Another very compelling mystery in this series. I love the conflicting cultural mindsets of the main character and her husband.
Definitely original with the main character 9 months pregnant and solving a murder mystery
Right up to her usual standards…a very good read.
I enjoy this series. I like the husband and wife and how they overcome their marital struggles. They prove that marriage takes faith and work.
I enjoy the Maggie Newberry series overall. The main characters are distinctive, well-drawn and engaging. The one problem I have is the extreme situations that provide the climax for every book. Maggie is nearly killed in every book, and usually saved only by a stroke of good fortune. This time her near-death happens to coincide with going into labor, which is really over the top. And while her husband is unhappy with her risk-taking, he’s not nearly as angry as a real person would be. The entire premise of this type of mystery novel is basically ludicrous to begin with — amateurs, whether they’re little old ladies like Miss Marple or advertising execs cum novelists like Maggie, don’t go around solving murders in real life. Nonetheless, I’m willing to suspend disbelief to the extent of allowing myself to enjoy this genre. But there’s a point at which the unreality becomes too much. Miss Marple’s life was never (or very rarely) endangered, but Maggie comes close to dying violently each time out. At some point, even the most headstrong person would say, whoa, I’ve had enough of this, no more sleuthing for me. Considering that she is nearly killed twice, by two different people, in the next book in this series, it appears that Maggie Newberry is a woman who never learns.
A really good read.
Unusual plot. Solid characters, kept me reading. Educational.
I enjoyed the story and especially the characters. Also learned a lot about Aix en Provence which encouraged me to look up data about the area so I ended up learning a great deal. It’s a good read and I thoroughly recommend it.
I throughly enjoyed this book!
I enjoyed this situational mystery with its good characterization and interesting plot.
I enjoyed it
I couldn’t get into it…
I can’t recommend this. Too many leaps in the plot.
I enjoyed reading this book. Entertaining and well written. I couldn’t put it down!
I thought this book took a little while to get going, however once it did it became a real page turner.
