It’s Lilah Love’s job to inhabit a killer’s mind. The unapologetically tough FBI profiler is very comfortable there. But her latest case is making her head spin. It’s a string of brutal assassinations carried out across the country, each tied to a mysterious tattoo. Body by body, she’s followed the clues all the way back to her hometown. And every step of the way, the killer has been following … her.
Here, beneath the glamour of the privileged Hamptons community, is a secret long buried but never forgotten. It’s bigger than Lilah. It’s powerful enough to escape the reach of the FBI. And it’s more personal than anyone can imagine. Because it’s hiding in Lilah’s own past. To fight it, she’s forced to turn to her lethally tempting ex, Kane Mendez. He’s an expert at bringing out Lilah’s darkest impulses. If she plans to survive, she’s going to need them.

Holy freaking crap! I can’t believe I made it to the end of this book without a friggen heart attack! Murder Girl is full of suspense, mystery, drama, intrigue, hot and steamy sex, and leads you down so many different twists and turns that when you think you have a handle on everything, things go in another direction. I loved Murder Notes, and I am obsessed with Murder Girl! I read this so fast I was done with it in no time, sleep wasn’t an option, that’s how good this book is. Kane is just plain and simple off the charts hot and sexy. Lilah’s father is an ass, and her brother is somewhere in the middle. Just because one door closes, doesn’t mean another one opens, and there’s definitely another story there with Lucas, Murphy and Rich, can’t wait to see how all of that turns out. All of the characters in this book gives this such a deep, suspense laced story that you just can’t put it down. Lisa Renee Jones has out did herself with this series, and I’m soooooo looking forward to the next installment! This series has definitely earned a spot on my paperback bookshelf.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC copy of this book.
4.9 Stars
Book #2 starts right where we left Lilah in book #1!
She just arrived at Kane’s to see the boss of the Romano cartel bound and gagged in his garage! What is happening? And why doesn’t Kane want her to dig any deeper into the tattoo and the killings and everything that happened back then?
But Lilah is not giving up.
Added to her Kane troubles, her colleague and ex lover Rich is now in the Hamptons too – sent by her boss to help. But she can’t have Rich anywhere near Kane or the killer! She doesn’t want another dead person on her conscience.
Who is the bad guy? The bad GUYSSSS???
Let’s hope Lilah will find out everything before too many more people are killed!
WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO LILAH???
WILL SHE CATCH THE BAD GUYs???
READ THE BOOK TO FIND OUT
Finally book #2!
I really enjoyed the first one and as always with a second book, I was mega scared that I had forgotten too much. BUT – Lisa is amazing at making us Bookalzheimer sufferers remember the previous book! She spent the first SEVEN percent of the book telling us all about what happened in the first one! AMAZING! Thank you LRJ!!!
And then we’re right in the middle of Lilah’s adventure!
And we still don’t know what and who and how and why and grrrrrr – I wanted to take a peek at the end to find out if everything will end up okay, but of course I kept on reading without sneaking a peek!
In my opinion it started out a bit slow, but it soon got really exciting – with more people dead and more than one killer? Who is hiring these guys? What is happening?!?!!! It’s all mega exciting and Lilah is trying her best to find answers without getting any of her loved ones killed. And that includes Kane. He wants Lilah back for good, but she thinks that will never work – her badge will not allow them to end up happily ever after – BUT maybe the reader can still hope for a happy end.
As the story goes on we find out what is behind things, but this book will not end with all the bad guys behind bars and all the cases closed. Lilah still has a lot to do… and I can’t wait to get started with book #3 – I haven’t heard anything about this being more than a duet, but I realllly hope so!!!
If you want to compare this series to a TV Show, I would say it’s a mix of Criminal Minds & Revenge! Profiling FBI meets Hamptons small-town rich families and politics.
I wouldn’t mind seeing this on Netflix one day!!! I really need to see Kane!!
And I also wouldn’t mind a story about a few of the male guest-stars in those first 2 books!
MURDER GIRL was the perfect 2nd book in this mystery thriller series!
Super exciting, page-turnerish, funny – and so much more!
Run to your nearest amazon to find out if and how Lilah will catch the bad guys & for your own peek at Kane 😉 !
“Your world is my world.” – Kane
I loved Murder Notes, so when I received a copy of Murder Girl I was torn between wanting to devour it and wanting to savor it! So I did what any reasonable reader would do- I devoured it first and then went right back to re-read it and absorb every little nuance.
We pick up exactly where the first book left off. Lilah is trying to decide between allowing Kane to push her aside for her own good and pushing back at him in an effort to finally get some answers. But since Kane is Kane, he does what he has to do to protect her- from everyone including herself- despite the fact he knows she is going to be seriously pissed off with him after the fact. Or maybe he does it because he knows how she will react since their push and pull is one of things he enjoys most about their dynamic.
Lilah feels like she is being spun in circles, and everywhere she turns she only finds deceit and lies. Every time she thinks she is onto something, she finds herself with more questions than answers, and both her brother and father seem to be deeply tangled up in whatever is happening. She starts to question everyone and everything around her including her boss, Director Murphy, and her FBI co-worker and west coast fling Rich who Murphy assigns to work with her. I almost felt bad for Rich because he is so certain that he is better for Lilah than Kane, but really he has no idea what he is up against.
“You see what I wish I was, Rich. He sees who I am. I will never live up to your expectations, but I wanted to. I tried. But I will always live up to his expectations, when I wish I wouldn’t. But I’m me. I can’t be something I’m not.”
She feels as though she can’t trust anyone, and although she doesn’t want to admit it to herself, that isn’t entirely accurate: the only person she can and does trust is Kane.
Although Murder Girl is heavier on suspense than romance, Lilah and Kane still have some sizzling moments together. Their shared secret may be a common bond between them, but it is scary to her how well they get each other on every level. He is a criminal in the eyes of most, including Lilah at times, but she understands the code he lives by too. Her badge is keeping them apart for now- the question is, how long will that be the case, either by her choice or by the truth of her past being revealed? Does Murphy already know her secret, and if so, what is his endgame now?
Murder Girl is just as fast paced as Murder Notes, and more twists, turns and mind-bending moments ensue! We do get some pretty big reveals in this second installment. Lilah appears to be the common denominator connecting all of the cases, and it is clear someone is taunting her while possibly plotting trying to kill her again. Are they really after Lilah herself, or are they using her to go after Kane? Is the person leaving notes alluding to her past connected to the current murders or a separate threat they need to address? Murphy throws her a heckuva curve ball in the final chapters, and Lilah is left to contemplate how to live her immediate future on her own terms. I cannot wait to see how this all shakes out!
I’m seriously in love with this series! I’m fascinated by the process of watching the main character figure out clue by clue to solve a series of murders, as well as dealing with what happened to her two years prior and how that may be connected.
To see how an author can have so much going on in a story and slowly connect everything that happens to the people we get introduced to just has me riveted to the pages. Trust me, you will not be bored with this series. The more you read the more it sucks you in and the more you want to find out the truth right along with Lilah.
The romance part is not a major focus but still a big part of the story. You do get to see Kane and Lilah work together more in this book vs the first book and I hope that will continue. I like these two together. Kane having Lilah’s back just increases the excitement of the story. He should be forbidden to her. He should be the one she trust the least, but the fact that he is the only one she can trust makes him one of the most intriguing characters besides Lilah herself.
This is not a standalone set. You have to read book one or you will not only be lost, but also miss out on some major things that happened. It’s why I can’t reveal too much about what is happening in this book. While this did end with the a bit of a completion, it still is not over. Lilah has accomplished one task to a very big picture. I’m excited for the next book and looking forward to what will be revealed next.
Murder Girl
Murder Girl picks up right where Murder Notes ended. Lilah is pointing a gun at Kane who has the head of Romano cartel handcuffed to a chair in his garage.
Rich, Lilah’s partner & ex-lover is in town from CA. He was sent by their boss to help her with this case. However, the hate/hate relationship between Rich & Kane keeps getting in the way and may lead to another dead body…but whose….Rich or Kane?
Lilah uncovers something so unbelievable. Who is involved? Is her Father? Is her Brother? Who else could possibly be participants? Does Lilah & Kane hook up again? Who is doing the killing and why did they want Lilah back in the Hamptons?
To find the answer to these questions and so many more questions you have to read the book.
The Lilah Love series maybe my favorite by this author although I have loved every book of hers I have read. I received an arc for an honest review.
Oh my gosh… I want more Lilah!
Agent Lilah Love is back! Murder Girl is the second in the Lilah Love series by Lisa Renee Jones.
Lila Love is a FBI profiler and a total badass and the story picks up right where Murder Notes leaves off. She makes you literally question everyone’s motives!
she also can’t be with Kane, because they are on opposite sides of the line. But the dynamic between
Lilah and Kane is so intense, there is so much chemistry between them, love and hate.
things from the past, are coming in to the future, dead bodies, fights, trust and a lot of mystery…..
It’s book two in a serie and I loved all the twists & turns the book takes and I can’t wait to see how this is all going to end!
Enjoyed the ride!
Now that I knew to expect more mystery, less romance, I immensely enjoyed the ride! I loved all the twists & turns the book takes! I loved getting more into Lilah’s mind & how she figures things out. We do get a little bit more of Kane, & I loved that too along with Kane & Lilah’s back & forth! Can’t wait to see how this is all going to end!
I voluntarily read an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review.
Oh man! This go round Lisa Renee Jones just solidified that she definitely knows how to do romantic suspense! I fell so far into this story that I lost most of my day to the ins and outs that Lilah Love was weeding through as she tries to solve her case. It was a day well spent.
Lilah’s investigation takes her to a place I never imagined. This story goes DEEP into some serious mystery that I won’t spoil. Even as she’s suspecting everyone around her, I was right there as well experiencing a journey of suspense I won’t soon forget. I totally love Lilah’s no nonsense F-you attitude which is something I don’t usually enjoy. But Lilah, geez, she’s just so freaking determined to get to the end of the threads that just keep unraveling and she’s tough enough to do it on her own. I respected the heck out of her!
Kane is still a bit on the backburner through the first half of the book but when things start speeding up, he’s there to give her the support that only he can offer. With his actions and words we are given some insight into how he thinks and what he feels. At one point when they are talking about what happened in the past, I realized that this man would do anything for her. Even more than what he had done that one fateful night years ago. Gah! I love a hero like that.
This picks up exactly where Murder Notes stops so you will certainly need to read book one. However, Ms. Jones does include a summary of Notes to help refresh your memory and I was so thankful for the reminders of some of the little tidbits I had forgotten. More authors should utilize this tactic when delving into an ongoing saga.
This isn’t necessarily fast paced but it never bogged down and I never once felt the urge to skim. I consumed every word and when I hit the end I immediately needed the rest of the story. And now to hurry up and wait! Sigh.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book provided by NetGalley and Montlake Publishing. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I read a lot of different genres including mystery. Let me say that the Lilah Love series is straight up mystery! Plot twists galore, bodies strewn along the east and west coasts. Family as deep as they can get. Murders, suicides and executions. Throw in politics, police officers, FBI, a cartel or two, an assassin and what do you get?! An A+ mystery!!!
I didn’t know what to expect and I most definitely did not know who to trust. The chemistry and past history with Kane Mendez only adds to the chaos that is Lilah Love’s life. Past meets present. And when I say past, there is the smokin’ hot sex and maybe a buried body.
Murder Girl is not for the faint of heart. It is an edge of your seat, 90mph twisting ride along the edge of a mountainside. Hold on and don’t let go!! No cliff-hanger, but it’s only book two in the series so the ride is long and exciting!
Murder Girl is the second in the Lilah Love series by Lisa Renee Jones. It’s a suspenseful rollercoaster ride full of twists and turns in a plot that’s more thriller than the sexy romance we have all come to expect from the writer of the ‘Dirty Money’, Walker Brothers and Dirty Rich series’s to name but a few. Lisa is an exceptional author, she never fails to deliver with her stories and didn’t let me down here.
Lilah is even more driven, more tenacious than she was in Murder Girl while Kane is the devil in plain
The story continues where Murder Notes left off and we are dropped into the deep end right from the get go. Kane and Lilah are at odds, she committed to finding to the truth about her past, and Kane is equally determined to keep her from discovering things he doesn’t want her to know. She doesn’t want to lose him again, no matter what she tells herself. She knows they can’t be together but events keep putting them in the same space so she finds it harder and harder to keep her feelings to herself. Theirs is a forbidden kind of love. Dark, thrilling and deeply entangling.
The body count keeps rising, and as Lilah tries to figure out who Junior is she’s drawn all over the Hamptons on her drive to capture him or her. She enlists Kane help in part of this but he is adamant he accompany her, no going alone. It’s a hard road she travels with the connection her family has with the legal and political systems.
When Lilah finally gets a lead on the case, a copycat killing of one from before she left NY, takes place that forces her to face facts.
That the serial killer/ assassin is closer to her than she realized.
She doesn’t know who to trust except Kane. Always, Kane.
Her ex-boyfriend and FBI partner from LA, Rich, is supposed to be a good guy, but is he? His hatred and jealousy of Kane make him a liability to her and himself. Then, there’s Greg, her ex-partner for her days at NYPD, who’s now working a side job with Kane’s adversaries. Does he have something to hide?
Even her boss at the FBI comes under Lilah’s scrutiny as her mind leads her down the rabbit hole of suspicion.
Kane wants to keep Lilah safe from harm, even if it means lying to her, he may technically be a criminal, his father was head of the biggest cartel in the state after all, but he’s gone legit and wants to stay that way. He wants Lilah back in his life for good so when he gets a call from someone Lilah needs to talk to he agrees, but only with him by her side. And Lilah has to abide by his rules which means now shooting or arresting anyone, not even him.
Lilah gains some real insights into the case, ones that make it harder than ever to believe anything anyone says. Not even her father or brother.
But lives are on the line and Lilah has to make a choice, one that could cost her her family or maybe just her own life, and Kane’s too. And when all’s said and done, who will be left standing in the suspense filled ending to this story?
As I said, the romance takes second place to the story here but it doesn’t water down the chemistry between these two characters and when they get their moments they definitely make them count. They have a past, but do they have a future.
Only time will tell.
Because one thing is certain.
Lilah Love is NOT done, she has more tales to tell and more murders to solve.
