Miss Alice is now of marriageable age. She and her mother travel to a house party at Drummin Castle where Alice is introduced to the family’s younger, charming son. Although he’s good looking and seems nice enough, Alice is not really particularly impressed.
After dinner on the first night of their visit one of the other guests entertains the others with a tale of a supposed haunting by a woman in a white gown.
When a murder occurs, Alice decides to follow in her cousin Rose’s footsteps and do some investigating.
Because it’s an interesting enough story, though not riveting, I’ll probably read the second book in the series to see whether the series is worthy of continuing and because the ending of this one suggests that it has potential.
I guessed whodunit and why, and I’m not particularly good at this.
Recommended for light reading.
Good storyline except the writing was just a bit dreary and long winded. References to happenings in book one were a bit confusing. The main character is not very likeable and not as smart as she thought

This is a wonderful new series set in an awesome time period. Alice is a great sleuth and as cousin Rose manages, she can do the job as well. I am looking forward to the next book in the series.

Great start to a new series!
Miss Alice and her mother accept an invite to spend a week with Lady Drummond and her family at her Scottish castle. When one of the family members is murdered, Alice takes it upon herself to try to solve the crime. Alive is not your typical snobby society gal without a brain in her head. She is very intelligent and not one to back down from anything. I love the description of the castle and the cast of characters. I can’t wait to read the next book!
I received an ARC. This is my honest review.
Alice Beckingham is haunted by past events, but her mother pressures her to visit Scotland. She becomes ensnared in mystery and danger. I enjoyed this period novel and will be reading more Miss Alice Murders.

Alice finds little to entertain herself in London with her mother and father. Her father has grown distant, and her mother suddenly seems to want to marry Alice off.
The crimes and death of her brother Edward seem to haunt Alice more thoroughly than any ghost or specter. She also seems to have a knack for solving crimes, like her private detective cousin Rose.
Alice finds herself tangled in the webs of a thief, and in jeopardy of a murder and a phony.
Loves course might in theory be true, but Alice is facing life and deaths, and her path is murky.
A fascinating series!
