From USA Today & Wall Street Journal Best-selling Author Sandi Scott.Feisty sexagenarian Georgie Kaye is up to her eyelashes in superheroes. It’s the opening day of Wizard-Hero Con, a yearly gathering of writers, illustrators and vendors focused on the serious (and not so serious) business of graphic novels.Georgie is in her element, nobody bats an eye at her costumes and even Aleta is … her costumes and even Aleta is dressing up and getting into the spirit of things. There are plenty of Elephant Ear pastries to keep the twins fed and happy, but when one of the conference headliners is found dead at the opening night mixer, Georgie dons steampunk goggles and starts investigating.
Hot on the trail of stolen superhero ideas, Georgie needs to figure out who did the deed. Ex-husband Stan is happy to see her at first, unfortunately not everybody on Stan’s team is equally excited. Georgie finds herself dealing with an unexpected stalker as she races to solve the mystery before she becomes the next victim of a crazed killer.
This is a humorous cozy mystery featuring a strong female protagonist with a lifetime of experiences, and a mystery that needs solving! It has no graphic violence, bad language or sex. It is part of the Pet Portraits Cozy Series but can be read as a standalone.

This is such a fun series that just gets better. The characters are first rate and the plots are fun. I highly recommend this series!
Georgie
is asked to draw a pet portrait of a snake. The owner does graphic novels and wants a half snake man based off his own snake. When she drops off the portrait to his house he invites her to the hero wizard comic con. When she goes with straight laced sister Aleta the fun begins. Everyone loves her portrait and she fast becomes the talk of the convention! When another graphic artist and all around horrible man is murdered the sisters are in it.
Maggie makes an appearance and is delusional enough to think she and Stan are together. She even has the nerve to yell at Georgie to back off.
I love this series! The characters are believed and blend well together. The sisters are as funny as usual and are still getting stuck in sticky situations! I highly recommend this book and this series if you like fun, adventure, action and mystery! With these sisters you never know what they will get into next but you can be sure it’s hilarious!
I loved this book! I love this series! Georgie and her twin Aleta are always stepping in to something. Which mean ex-hubby Stan a police detective is not far behind. What I loved most about this book was that Georgie is given great recognition for her latest pet portrait. The Pet portrait is a fun part of each of these books for me. I also loved how this book takes place for the most part at a convention center. I saw a similarity between Comic-Con and Wizard-Hero. I have never been but have heard stories and I think Sandi Scott does a great job of creating a true feel for these events. I hope there are many more books in this series.
My heroines Georgie and Aleta are at a Super Hero / Comic Con event. Georgie has one of her amazing pet portraits on display, and the image is a prominently featured comic hero – a popular character. The authors of the comic series are signing comics, and handing out loot – and even some business cards for Georgie.
When another comic artist who is not very friendly faces lethal challenges, ex husband police detective Stan is on the scene with his more than moderately nutty on again off again girlfriend/ police photographer. Apparently a psychological exam is not required to be a photographer for the police – this one seems more than a little nuts and stalkerish – again.
The twins face danger and mysteries with the same elan they faced death, divorce and cancer – and with their usual hilarious flair and adventuresome fun.
Stan might just find the death of a long held dear friendship with Georgie if he doesn’t get more careful.
Georgie always has Aleta and her doggie champion Bodhi, and as much attention / cattitude as Freckles the Cat, pet companion to Aleta, decides to share. Their loyalty seems to be more consistent than Stan’s.
I love the strong support and connection the sisters share – despite their humorous sister spats. Also especially cool is that both ladies manage to seem vulnerable, yet not weak, as they work their way through adult dating with all the speed bumps and grown up baggage. I was proud of each of them when they faced challenges with the latest men in their lives: they stood their ground- Aleta especially . Not without some pain and disappointment, but with determination and super sister support.
I enjoyed reading this book on Kindle Unlimited.
Love the Kaye Sisters. Georgie and Aleta are such a fantastic set of twin sisters. Totally fun loving and constantly getting themselves into weird and wild situations. This book was the best one so far. The story plot was great and so original. The characters were great and the mystery was peppered with lots of drama by Maggie. Highly recommend this book and the series to all mystery lovers.
I always enjoy reading about the Kaye twins exploits. This time they are at a Wizard-Hero Con. It was interesting reading about those that create graphic novels. Georgie’s pet portrait of a boa constrictor is being used at as advertising for one of the graphic novelists.
When one of the graphic novelist’s who treats everyone like dirt is killed, it’s up to the twins to try to help solve the crime. The plot is twisted enough to keep me guessing. Georgie’s relationship with Stan, her ex, is also becoming more complicated by a stalking police women. I look forward to the next adventure in this series!
When Georgie Kaye completes a gorgeous portrait depicting a new client’s pet boa constrictor, Hercules, the grateful graphic novelist, Beau Hanbaugh, gifts her with two full-access vendor passes to the big, upcoming comic convention. Always ready to live life to the fullest, Georgie grabs her twin sister, Aleta, and immerses herself in the cosplay, vendor booths of the unusual and exotic, and the exclusive evening vendor reception.
During the reception a bearded man is dragged from the convention hall by security when he begins shouting and ranting that one of the more successful graphic novelists, a nasty character by the name of Cole Ness, had stolen his award-winning work from him! Later, after Georgie spies the bearded man sneaking around the reception again, Cole is found bludgeoned to death in his booth. Of course, the local police, led by Georgie’s ex-husband, Detective Stanley Toon, are called in to investigate, and Georgie can’t help but lend a hand.
Once again, this story of the Kaye sisters and Stan is witty and entertaining. The murder mystery is straightforward, and we can agonize along with Georgie over her confused feelings for her ex. With the reappearance of police crime scene photographer, Maggie Hoffentop, as a rival for Stan’s attention, if not affections, things get really interesting. The real mystery here may be what the future holds for Georgie and Stan. I highly recommend this entire series though this could be read alone and still be enjoyed immensely.
I loved this book in the Pet Portraits series. In it, Georgie and Aleta go to a resort in the mountains not far from their home. Georgie is out of her element here and things do down hill with the murder. She and Aleta keep getting dragged into the murder by events that they have no control over. Stan does come up to stay for a bit when the murder is discovered.
As a side note, I do hope that in a future book soon, Gerogie gets back together with Stan. They make a cute couple 🙂
The twins attend a superhero conference, where they find another mystery to solve. These characters are interesting and lively. The book is well written, fast paced and a pleasure to read. I’m looking forward to the next book in the series. I received a free copy of this book and chose to make a voluntary, unbiased review.
I love the Kaye sisters – 60ish and smart! In Murder at the Wizard-Hero Con, Geogie’s portrait of Hercules is quite the talk of the convention. Of course a vendor is murdered. There are too many suspects and possible motives. With lots of witty dialog, the murder, a jealous co-worker of ex-hubby Stan, a male interested in Aleta, all the convention excitement, etc., I think there is something for everyone in this latest Pet Portraits cozy mystery.
Georgie Kaye has just finished a special Pet Portrait for Beau Hanbaugh. Beau writes graphic novels and his pet, a Boa Constrictor named Hercules, is the basis for his main character, Serpentius. Beau’s idea is to have Georgie’s artwork on display at the upcoming Wizard-Hero Conference. Beau also gives Georgie two special tickets to the conference, that allow her early entrance, along with the vendors.
On the first day of the conference, Beau’s booth is crowded with people buying his latest book and admiring Georgie’s artwork. Another nearby booth features Nuclear Wolf, created by Cole Ness. As Georgie approaches the booth, she hears Cole yelling at somebody on his phone. It seems that Cole is as abrupt and difficult as Beau stated.
Later that evening, at a party for the vendors, a stranger accuses Cole Ness of stealing his idea for Nuclear Wolf. With some effort, security is able to escort the man from the room. Cole’s behavior seems to favor yelling and insulting everybody around him. Later that evening, Cole is found dead near the restrooms.
Who killed Cole? Did he really steal all of his ideas? Can Georgie figure out the mystery without putting herself in danger?
Sandi Scott has another winner in the Pet Portraits series. This story shows more of Georgie’s personal feelings and touches on areas of personal life that few people like to admit to.
