From USA Today & Wall Street Journal Best-selling Author Sandi Scott.Feisty sexagenarian Georgie Kaye is up to her eyelashes in superheroes. It’s the opening day of Wizard-Hero Con, a yearly gathering of writers, illustrators and vendors focused on the serious (and not so serious) business of graphic novels.Georgie is in her element, nobody bats an eye at her costumes and even Aleta is … her costumes and even Aleta is dressing up and getting into the spirit of things. There are plenty of Elephant Ear pastries to keep the twins fed and happy, but when one of the conference headliners is found dead at the opening night mixer, Georgie dons steampunk goggles and starts investigating.
Hot on the trail of stolen superhero ideas, Georgie needs to figure out who did the deed. Ex-husband Stan is happy to see her at first, unfortunately not everybody on Stan’s team is equally excited. Georgie finds herself dealing with an unexpected stalker as she races to solve the mystery before she becomes the next victim of a crazed killer.
This is a humorous cozy mystery featuring a strong female protagonist with a lifetime of experiences, and a mystery that needs solving! It has no graphic violence, bad language or sex. It is part of the Pet Portraits Cozy Series but can be read as a standalone.

Murder at the Wizard – Hero Con is another winner for Sandi Scott. Her Pet Portrait Series is a fun laugh out loud cozy mystery that you won’t want to stop reading. Even though this book is # 11 in the series it can very well be read as a standalone. I recommend that you read them all in fact you will want to read them all they are so good. There are reoccurring characters in each book. Soon you will come to think of them as friends. This book has plenty of twists and turns to keep you engaged. If you enjoy books with action, adventure, mystery and humor this is the book and series for you. I am looking forward to the next installment!!!
This is another sweet visit with the twins, Georgie and Aleta. This time the twins attend the Wizard Hero Con, as in a big convention of graphic novel heroes. Of course, there is a murder and Georgie is in the thick of things and Aleta is along for the ride. Reading the pet mystery books is like visiting old friends – It’s good to reconnect with them and you look forward to seeing them again. The book moves along nicely, and with each book you learn a little more about each twin. Georgie makes a startling pronouncement in the end of the book. How will she act on it? Or will she act on it? Maybe in the next book we’ll find out.
I received an ARC for an honest review.
My nineteenth read from author Sandi Scott and the eleventh in The Pet Portrait Mystery Series. The author does a wonderfully entertaining job in character & plot. As always main characters have been well-developed over the course of the ten previous books in this series. An entertaining book that I very much enjoyed reading. I received an ARC of this book & am voluntarily reviewing it. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 – July 24, 2018).
As always, the sisters are funny and clever, the mystery is interesting and love is a conundrum. Reading this series has been such a pleasure and has made me wish for a sister just like Georgie.
Georgie Kaye has been invited to Wizard/Hero Con because one of her pet portraits is being displayed in a booth for one of the comic book vendors. Georgie is in her element, she loves the costumes and atmosphere. Aleta as Georgie’s plus one is having a great time too, she even met a nice gentleman. Georgie happens upon a dead body and with her curious nature, she gets right in the middle of the investigation. Things get very complicated when Georgie’s ex-husband, Stan, arrives on the scene as the lead detective followed by the crime scene photographer who has a thing for Stan. Can Georgie help solve the murder?
As usual, this is a humorous cozy mystery, Georgie and Aleta have a great relationship with plenty of fun sibling rivalry. The pace of the mystery is fairly quick with several twist and turns. In addition to the mystery of the murder, we have a bonus mystery as to whether or not Georgie is being followed. This is probably my favorite Pet Portrait Cozy book to date. I love how the mysteries are still the same humorous cozy that I have come to love but the characters are getting a little more complex.
I voluntarily agreed to read an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own and in no way have been influenced.
No spoilers in this review and the following is my unsolicited review of an advanced copy of this super fun book. This latest installment in the Pet Portraits Cozy Mystery finds the Twins in the middle of yet another murder. All of the books can be read as stand-alones, this one is no exception and this book will make you go back and read the others if you haven’t read them already. There are characters that recur in each book, and the stories are always full of humor, action, and mystery, this one taking place at a comic book convention (or should I say graphic novel). Georgie and Aleta “assist” the cops along with ex-husband/detective Stan to solve the latest mystery/murder that takes place after the gals are invited to the con because of a painting that Georgie was commissioned to paint then the owner turns up dead. This is sure to please any and every cozy reader. Sandi never fails to give us an enjoyable tale, so don’t delay any further, go get this book now.
Georgie Kaye gets hired to paint the picture of a boa constrictor for a graphic novel writer. He loves the painting so much that it will be put on display at his booth at the Wizard-Hero Con event for which Georgie has been invited. Where there is Georgie, there is her twin Aleta. The ladies get their first taste of the world of graphic novels by meeting the writers, illustrators, vendors, and the fans. When one of the conference headliners is found dead on opening night, Georgie can’t help but investigate. This means that ex-husband Stan (the cop) can’t be too far behind, to the delight of Georgie, until she discovers Maggie is there too.
Hold onto your hats as the twins go on a humorous madcap adventure trying to solve the case before becoming the next victim. If you are looking for a cozy mystery filled with strong female characters, loads of laughs, lots of hijinks, and a mystery with tons of twists and turns, then get this book right away.
Sexagenarian twins Georgie and Aleta Kaye are off to a comic/book/artist comic con festival. Georgia is the artist that brought the writer’s vision to fruition on a wonder poster size advertisement of his newest book.
I like that the protagonist is a strong female and sure of herself. Her fashion taste is a little whimsy but she’s having fun. She and her sister have a lifetime of experiences that they can pull up at a moment’s notice and apply to most situations.
I was given an Advanced Reader’s copy of this book and am not required to leave a positive review.
This series, featuring Georgie and Aleta is an object lesson in how to write cosy mysteries featuring more ‘mature’ central characters.
There is so much to like about this book, the twins obvious love for each other which is only underlined by their friendly banter and leg-pulling; the relationship between Georgie and her ex-husband Stan (will they get back together?); the other characters, who are well written, but the amount of detail is appropriate to their relevance to the story, which means that you only get what you need, very clever writing.
Of course the characters and so on are all important, but a cosy mystery needs a murder to create the story, and this time it’s a rather unpleasant comic book artist who is killed at the convention.
The story has plenty of twists and turns, and as usual Georgie ends up in hot water to provide some excitement at the climax.
Although this book is part of a series, it also works really well as a stand-alone as all the background is very cleverly incorporated into the story.
I received an advance copy of the book, but have voluntarily written this honest review.
I love these books! The entire series is funny, entertaining and delightful. Georgie & Aleta are so much fun with their banter and exploits as twins. The portraits that Georgie draws are always a part of the story in some way and add another layer to the story. The murders are always interesting and seeing the twins stumble their way into solving it is always fun. Georgie and her relationship with her ex-husband, Stan, is always amusing too. Love, love, love these characters!
I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
The Kaye twins are quirky, feisty and love to have fun, even if it leads
to murder.
Georgie and Aleta are attending a convention for writers, illustrators and writers of superhero graphic novels. With a penchant for dressing in costumes, the twins are in their element…that is until they find the dead body of a very rude, obnoxious writer. This is a great read with several suspects.
The kind of book I like to read. I received an ARC of this book for my honest review.
I love the Kaye twins. Each of their adventures have been wonderful. Georgie is an artist who paints pet portraits. This time she has been commissioned to paint Hercules, the boa constrictor belonging to Beau and Denise Hanbaugh, a graphic artist and writer of comic books. As part of her payment, Beau gives her two tickets to Wizard-Hero-Con being held at Hillard-Price Place in Chicago. Georgie has painted a portrait of the comic book character, Serpentius, a half-man, half-boa constrictor (which is Hercules).
Georgie has planned their expedition with costumes for her Aleta and Georgie for each day; a room at The Blackstone Hotel which is close to the convention. Once at Wizard-Hero-Con, they meet a graphic novelist, Cole Ness, a graphic novelist, who is very arrogant toward the vendors and attendees alike. When Cole is found dead with a hard bump on the head, Georgie thinks she knows who killed him and begins following the suspect, Malcolm Heady.
Stan Toon, Georgie’s ex-husband, a detective on the police force shows up and laughs when he sees the twins there.
This is a great book. I love the twins and Stan as well as Maggie Hoffentop, who is bound and determined to take Stan away from Georgie.
You will love the latest installment by Sandi Scott about the Kaye sisters. Enjoy!
I received an advance copy. This is my honest review.
Comics, a boa and of course a murder!
The twins find themselves at a Wizard-Hero Con as Georgie painted one vendors superhero boa constrictor. With Georgie’s fashion sense, she is really in her element! One very rude vendor is found murdered and the twin’s of course, are first on the scene. Enter ex-husband to investigate. Stan has his own issues when his co-worker, girlfriend wannabe starts stalking Georgie. Will the twins find the killer, or will the killer find them? No spoilers here!!
I received an ARC. This is my honest review.
Georgie and Aleta find themselves yet again in the midst of a murder investigation. This time it’s at the Wizard-Hero Con, where one of Georgie’s pet paintings is receiving critical acclaim as the cover of a graphic novel. The quirky twins encounter all sorts of other quirky characters, one of which is murdered and others who are suspects. And into the mix, Georgie has a stalker following her and also must come to terms with her relationship with Stan, her ex-husband, while Aleta finds an attraction to a male admirer.
The tale is not only entertaining, fun-filled, and at times emotionally moving, it is also – in my opinion – one of the author’s most complex storylines to date. As such, I found it especially attention-grabbing and fulfilling. I highly recommend this newest addition to the Pet Portraits Cozy Mystery series!
I received an advanced copy of this book. This review is my own, honest opinion.
Once again Sandi Scott gives us a fun adventure with twin sisters Georgie & Aleta. I love how the sisters play off each other and then there’s the ex-husband of Georgie. I happy to see he is still “in-the-picture”. I like the fact you can reads these books in order or on their own (I would recommend reading them in order..) As always I can’t wait for the next book. *Disclaimer – I am on Sandi’s launch team and received this book at no charge.
Georgie and Aleta, twin sisters, are attending the Wizard-Hero Con convention. They run into one of the exhibitors who is not very friendly. In fact he is very rude. He is accused of stealing ideas for one of the super heroes. He is found dead. Georgie is a sleuth that looks to solve the murder. There is always a playful banter between the twins and between Georgie and her ex husband Stan. This is an enjoyable reading experience.
Georgie has finished painting her latest pet portrait, a snake. The painting is going to be displayed at the Wizard-Hero Convention, and Georgie and her twin sister are gifted all access vendor passes to attend the event. Things never go smoothly and one of the vendors is murdered. Georgie’s ex-husband, Stan, is part of the investigation team along with police photographer Maggie, a rival for his attention. Fast paced and well written, another great addition to the Pet Portrait series.
I am so delighted to be asked once again to be an advanced reader for this book. What follows is my own opinion in my review of this book.
Aleta and Georgie are the most wonderful sleuthing pair of “mature” twins you’ll ever meet! They bring flair, caution, maturity and life experiences into their sleuthing. (oh yes and an appetite for sweets!)
I enjoyed the setting in the Wizard Hero Con!! Fun with all the costumes. I especially liked the steam punk outfit that Georgie wears!
Georgie is the twin who has the artistic flair and can paint pet portraits. She was commissioned to paint the comic book snake Serpentius who is actually the comic book author’s pet boa constructor Hercules. Everyone marvels at her talent! She is a hit as the artist!
As the fun event progresses, unfortunately there is a murder to solve. Aleta and Georgie are on the case! Stan, Georgie’s ex-husband/police detective is assigned to the case. Stan has a woman named Maggie who is a police photographer working with him who is very interested in him. She gets a little freaky in this book.
I’m wondering what’s going to happen in the next book! Does Georgie still love Stan? Will they ever get back together? These are the questions I always ask whenever Stan shows up in these books! Stan and Georgie do have a great chemistry!
It is always fun when these cozy mysteries have storylines with the main characters that you get to see continue in future books.
I do want to mention that this book can be read as a standalone without prior information from the previous books. The author does a nice job updating you as you read through the book.
I like these books because they’re fairly clean cut with minimal violence and nothing graphic or sexual. I also enjoy the banter between the twins and between Georgie and her ex-husband Stan.
If you’re interested in other books in this series, the settings are all different with enjoyable plots. Always some good tension and excitement as they get closer to solving whatever murder has happened in the book. I have read them all!
How can anyone not enjoy “double trouble”? I’ve loved this series since day one. Besides the fact, there’s always a murder to solve, that’s nothing compared to the back and forth between Georgie and Aleta. This is a laugh out loud series that usually brings Georgie’s ex-husband, Stan, into play. Stan is a detective who always gets in the middle of his amateur ex’s attempts to solve the murder first. That little spark between them seems to glow a little brighter in this book but maybe that’s just my hope.
Another wonderful cozy mystery by Author Sandi Scott.
I love the characters of Georgie and Aleta. Loved reading this book.
