Plenty of dogs, recipes, and page-turning suspense in this, the 9th book in the Cottonwood Springs Cozy Mystery Series by a two-time USA Today Bestselling Author.

Murder at the New Dawn B & B is a cozy mystery that focuses on the horror and fallout of spousal abuse. Easy to read with wonderfully realistic characters, this book will break your heart while at the same time have you cheering that the character is dead all while turning the pages to see if your hunches about “who-dun-it” are correct. A delicate subject treated with respect and honesty, Murder at the New Dawn B & B is a great read for the cold winter nights.

This was another great little mystery by this author. I like this series because the main characters are so like able and with it being a long running series you get to know them well, so it is like catching up with old friends. The story starts with the murder and then go back in time for the lead up to it and the events that triggered the death. I don’t think this book contained as many suspects as usual but it was still a good listen and I applauded the author trying to encourage battered women to come forward to get help.
Brigid and Linc’s B&B is up and running smoothly until a married couple comes to stay. The tension between the couple skills over into other guests and even Linc finds it hard not to interfere in there private business. The slightest thing seems to set the husband off and with his temper Linc fears what will happen to the wife when they go back home. Then his body is found in the woods behind the B&B after another fight with his wife. Did she finally snap? Brigid once again helps the sheriff to investigate because this time a killer has struck a little to close to home.
I like the fact that the author has stuck with this narrator and think by doing this that it adds continuity to the series. Oh and she does a good job.
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
The B&B that Brigid and Linc started has been going very well. The guests have been nice and completely satisfied with the service they receive. When the current guests arrived Brigid sensed something was amiss in the marriage but hoped they would work it out. Linc didn’t like the husband at all!! Linc had known someone very much like him and was forever sorry he hadn’t stepped in. He did listen to Brigid and stayed out of it somewhat.
The husband was making the wife miserable–she was allowed no friends-he was always accusing her of cheating on him. He even got into it with another guest who was having a normal dinner conversation with her. The wife had spent much of her marriage trying to pacify him.
Well, the couple took a walk into the woods–the wife came back but the husband decided to keep walking to try and calm down—-
Next thing that happens is that Jet, the dog, is forcing Brigid to walk with him–they found the dead body of the husband. Of course they got the Sheriff involved and he and Brigid had to find out who killed him. It wasn’t easy–but eventually they got to the bottom of it!!
Without giving who did it away–all I am going to say is some people need killing!!
Lots of twists and turns and since this is a B&B you know there are lots of delicious recipes at the end!!
