An invitation from an old friend turns out to be much more than just lunch–murder with a side order of makeup!Sexagenarian twins, Georgie and Aleta Kaye are enjoying an impromptu reunion with classmates from high school at a bruncheon in a historic mansion. At least Georgie is enjoying herself, their hostess is Aleta’s arch rival from the cheerleading squad and the debating team and Aleta would … team and Aleta would rather be somewhere else.
A free makeover using products featuring unusual all-natural ingredients is all it takes for Georgie to be ready to leave.
When another member of Aleta’s debating team is found dead in a washroom, Georgie is on the case, eager to figure out if high school jealousies could drive someone to murder.
Laugh along with Georgie and Aleta as they work hard to unravel the puzzle before someone gives them both a permanent makeover—in death.
This is a clean cozy mystery book that is part of a series. It can be read as a standalone, but may also be enjoyed within the Pet Portraits Cozy Mystery series.

What Georgie and Aleta thought was a group of women from their old high school get together turns into much, much more! First they find out it is a presentation for a “The Better You” makeup sales pitch. Of course Georgie is all for a free ‘make over’ until she finds out what is in the products. About the time she finds Aleta to leave a scream is heard and a dead body is found in the lower level bathroom. Detective Stan Loon shows up to investigate and give Georgie another hard time. These were mostly their classmates all brought together who would kill one of them? Georgie and Aleta is on the case and it is a great ride! I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
The twins are back with another mystery to solve. These characters are lively and the book is well written. Im looking forward to the next book in the series. I received an advance copy of this book and this is my honest review.
I have wanted a twin ever since I started this series. I’m so jealous of the bond between Georgie and Aleta and I want to be a triplet. There is nothing better than to read and laugh out loud because you’re picturing what’s going on between these two. This series is addictive in a good way. I really find it hard to put down without finishing it in one sitting. Now, I’m not going to tell you what it’s about, you got that when you were looking to buy the book. This series is a hoot!!! Enjoying every minute of it.
As usual, I loved your story. Glad you got Aleta to wear something different.
I hope Georgie does keep saying ‘I love you’ to Stan.
From the first book I wanted them to get back together. For a while, I was afraid she’d go with Obby.
Since Marley isn’t calling Aleta, maybe she should make friends with Obby.
This is a really well written quick paced humorous cozy mystery. Once again Georgie Kaye cannot resist getting herself and her twin sister, Aleta, involved in a murder investigation. As usual, the characters are enjoyable and entertaining, the sisters continue to enjoy a little sibling rivalry with their made up stories about one another and light-hearted jabs. Georgie always exudes confidence and curiosity when it comes to murder cases but in this book, we get to see Georgie a little unsure of herself and her emotions when it comes to how she feels about her ex-husband Stan. Also, we get to see a little bit more of Aleta’s life as she tries to help her daughter Emily with work issues. The setting of the class reunion/Makeover is right up the sisters’ alley with the deserts but not so much the makeovers which of course leads to the aforementioned humor.
I recommend this book to fans of Sandi Scott and all cozy mystery lovers. I was provided with an ARC of this book in hopes I would supply an honest review. The opinions expressed here are completely my own and in no way been influenced.
The Kaye sisters can’t even get a makeover without someone dying. Georgie and Aleta are on a mission but first MUST HAVE CHOCOLATE.
As the event unfurls so does a murder. Stan is still trying to get Georgie back, even while investigating the latest murder. One thing we all know about Georgie is that she can’t just walk away from a case. Full of laughs from beginning to end.
Another fun visit with Georgie and Aleta. I love these characters! They are twin sisters that live next door to each other (one is widowed, the other divorced) but they are complete opposites who love to snark at each other! This mystery seemed to move very quickly but was still very good. And very funny! If you gain weight just thinking about food then you might need to forego this series! LOL!! I wish there was a JuJu’s close to my house! Can’t wait for the next book!
I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
This was another fantastic book in the series. An easy to read fun mystery. Characters and storyline were very well developed.
This is the continuation of the Pet Portrait series but works fine as a stand-alone, but once you read one, you’ll want to read the whole series! This starts out with a pseudo-reunion but it was really a sales pitch for a makeup line that contains bugs, yuck! Georgie and Aleta are on the case again! The regular cast of characters are great and very likeable, the bad guys…not so much. Plenty going on to keep my interest.
I received an ARC. This is my honest review.
Murder at the Makeover is the sixth Pet Potrait Mystery . This can be read as a standalone story.
Georgie and Aleta Kaye have been scammed into thinking they are attending an impromptu reunion with classmates from high school at a bruncheon in a historic mansion. It turns out to be a period scheme pitch for makeup sales.
One of the demonstrators/independent agents winds up dead.
See how the twins solve this case with the help of Stan.
What I liked about this story is:
It is well written, flows smoothly and has a delightful cast of characters.
It made me laugh!
I received an Advanced Reader’s Copy from the author and these are my own opinions.
This was a fun and funny book to read. I laughed out loud throughout the entire book. I read it in one sitting and now can’t wait for the next one.
Love the trouble Georgie gets into (and her clothes). Aleta is the perfect ying to her yang. Another winning Pet Portraits story.
Murder at the Makeover is the latest addition to this fun book series. I love the dynamic between twin sisters Georgie and Aleta, they are such fun. I also love watching how the relationship between Georgie and he ex-husband continues to develop throughout this series. Another winner.
I absolutely love this series. The characters are so well written they have become friends. I cannot wait to find out what they do next. This is a wonderful series and I highly recommend it. I received an ARC of this book, and this is my honest opinion.
Georgie gets an invitation to a pseudo-class reunion from a former high school classmate and talks Aleta into going with her. The pseudo-reunion turns out to actually be a sales presentation for something called “The Better You!” and is designed to promote makeup products.
Georgie is intrigued by the idea until she learns what the products are made from, then she wants nothing to do with it. As Peg, the consultant, was finishing with Aleta’s makeover, they heard an ear-splitting scream. Naturally, Georgie and Aleta had to find out what happened.
They found the body of a woman, Samantha Alfred, who had been shot in the head. Since no gunshot was heard, Georgie and Aleta automatically assumed that a gun with a silencer had been used. Also, Georgie remembered Samantha as being a former classmate.
Everybody initially thought the victim was one of the guests, but it turned out that Samantha was actually one of “The Better You” consultants. It seemed that in addition to being a Makeover consultant, Samantha was also the president and CEO of a Property Management Company. Unfortunately, the Management company, Universal Property Management, had a myriad of complaints and negative reviews. While trying to look into the murder, Aleta is distracted by her daughter, Emily, who is having issues while trying to move her accounting firm to a new and larger location.
Who killed Samantha? Why was she killed? Was the killing connected to the Beauty Product line or the Property (Mis-)Management area? Can Georgie and Aleta solve the mystery and help Emily with her problems at the same time?
As with this entire series, Sandi Scott has plenty of sibling rivalry and humor, along with great characters and a fantastic story line.
