If you’re a fan of cozy mysteries and a foodie, you’ll eat up this book! It revolves around the murder of the protege of a famous chef and there’s plenty of action in the kitchen as well as detecting. I had no idea whodunnit until the end.
If the charming hero and heroine, a detective and his wife, weren’t enough to entice you, there’s a fabulous subplot about their pet dog that truly melted my heart.
This murder mystery set in the enticing restaurant world is the epitome of what makes a cozy cozy!

This is another bite size cosy mystery by Dianne Harman that is a real little treat. I liked the fact that the body was discovered very early on and to help with the investigation nobody was told about the death, it made it a different story to the usual suspects just denying they were responsible. I like the Kelly and Mike team, oh and of course Rebel the dog , they are always a pleasure to listen too and catch the bad guy or girl. I don’t know anything about cooking (other than I like a good recipe, which you can find at the end of the book.) but it was only after I put the name James Beards into Google, the author had me curious, that I found out he was a real person and was based in Oregon. The author obviously did her research for this book.
For a surprise birthday present Mike signs Kelly and himself up for a gala banquet to honour James Beards. A man who’s cook books Kelly owns and uses in her coffee shop. As a real treat he talks chef Jessup to allow Kelly to act as the sous-chef for the evening. However things don’t go to plan and instead of cooking Kelly finds herself investigating the Chefs murder. Rather than cancel the dinner Kelly and the Chefs fiance pull the meal of with out a hitch and nobody is any the wider there has been a death. Leaving Mike and Kelly the time they need to question the suspects. Was the chef the target ? When the hotel manger is threatened Kelly is unsure but with the police chief at the hospital worrying about his own son it will be down to Kelly, Mike and Rebel to find out.
I liked the narrator she has quite a distinct voice that works well for the characters.
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review
Murder at the Gearhart (Cedar Bay Mysteries, Book 14), my twelfth read/listen from author Dianne Harman and my fourth read in her Cedar Bay Mystery Series. Well-written and developed, a joy to read/listen to. I was given an Audible copy of this book & am voluntarily reviewing it. Kasey Logan’s pleasant narration adds to an excellent book’s enjoyment. I look forward to reading more in this series & from this author. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 – July 24, 2018).
I really liked the characters in this book. I felt like I knew each one and could picture them. A really different story!
