One bright Spring morning when Philippe Germain, the owner of a prestigious Seattle art gallery, woke up, he didn’t know he’d be dead in a few hours.Do you have a photographic memory? What would you do if you were in Provence, France, and happened to see the same painting for sale by the same dead artist that your best friend had just bought from a gallery in Seattle? That’s DeeDee’s predicament. … DeeDee’s predicament. Join her, along with her significant other, Jake, a private detective, and her husky dog, Balto, as they search for the murderer of a well-respected Pioneer Square art dealer, but did he have secrets?
There’s no lack of suspects. Could it have been the gallery owner’s French wife, who is also his nephew’s lover? Or the nephew who owns a gallery in Provence? What about the struggling artist who had a gift for reproducing famous artists’ works? Maybe even the young retired Microsoft millionaire who had bought many paintings from the gallery? And what about DeeDee and Jake’s friend, ex-mobster Al De Duco, who had also bought a painting from the gallery?

This is the first book I’ve read by Ms. Harman. Though it was the 6th in the series, I had no problem following along with past characters and the part they played in this book.
Murder at the Gallery sucked me in right from the start. There was no shortage of suspects and it had me guessing until close to the end.
What I loved the most about this book was that you could read the story from multiple character’s point of view. It gives you insight to what their thoughts are and some ended up with their own happy endings.
Since I love cooking and food, I thought it was a nice touch to add recipes of meals that were talked about during the story.
I look forward to more books by this author.
This one is my first in this series. I really enjoyed the main characters DeeDee and Jake! I also enjoyed the other characters and the story line. There’s a murder involving a gallery. And DeeDee is involved in the investigation. But she has Jake to help her and their dog Balto. There are secrets about the gallery and those who are connected to it. This was a fun mystery to solve!
This review is for the audio book.
I enjoyed this book. It starts with the death and then goes back to the events leading up the murder. It does take a while to get there because Dee and Jake are busy seeing and tasting the sights of Provence, France while they are on holiday. You get a lot of great sounding treats some of which are included at the end of the story. Once back home the story picks up and Dee gets on with the mystery she discovered in France. This is the first time for me of meeting these characters but it certainly won’t be the last, as they are interesting and of course includes the loveable Balto, the dog. They mystery it’s self played out nicely.
For Dee’s 50th birthday her boyfriend Jake has arranged a surprise trip to France so they can sample the cuisine, visit the sights and explore the art galleries and museums. While there she sees a painting that looks very similar to one she has just seen in a friends house. On her return she looks further into the matter by visiting the gallery that sold her friend the painting, only to discover the owner dead. Unable to sit back and do nothing Dee, with the assistance of her private detective boyfriend looks into the case. Can they solve the mystery behind the paintings and find a killer? Speaking French might just help on this case because everything seems to be connected back to Provence.
I liked the narrator, she did some good voices and even some accents were included.
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
