Georgie is asked to be a car pinup model for a local car show. While she is there, one of the major players is found dead. Naturally she gets involved in trying to find out what happened. The owner of the car where the body has been found has shown interest in Aleta so Georgie is going to do everything she can to clear his name
Great read.
Georgie Kaye is a model in a car show. And boy does she dress the part of the 1950-60’s! So much her ex-husband Stan is almost following her around with his tongue hanging out! Marley Gillibrand is the person who asked her to do this and is taking her pictures. Then a woman is found dead inside a 1956 Chevy and the car belongs to Marley! Was it murder or suicide? Georgie is on the case and doesn’t believe it was suicide as she spoke to the girl shortly before her body was found. So what is going on? Something is not adding up and Georgie is bound and determined to find out what is going. Then she gets a warning to stop her meddling. Will she stop or will the warning become reality? You will need to read this comical story to find out. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.
I adore Georgie and Aleta. It is such fun to read about a couple of older sleuths who love dessert! Georgie gets to be the antique car show pinup girl – at least until the dead body shows up! Even Aleta gets a beau in this new mystery from Sandi Scott. The twins share witty dialogue. Stan (Georgie’s ex-husband and a detective) is on hand to be jealous – and assist the sleuthing twins. This is another mad romp and I highly recommend it!
“Murder at the Car Show” earns 5/5 Teal & White 1956 Chevy…Cool!
Wow! Georgie Kaye is my hero! Her energy, her humor, her devotion to family, her delight for donuts and pie, her orange Volkswagen Beetle…all wrapped up in a sexagenarian fireball! Sandi Scott has once again penned an entertaining cozy with two favorite characters…and I mean characters! The Kaye sisters…Georgie is spicy and Aleta is mild. Although the twins may be opposite, as a duo, they are dynamic, and their banter provides a whole laughs. (Aleta: I’m not dressing up like a harlot for some car show. Georgie: Of course, you’re not, but you can’t go to an antique car show dressed like a flat tire.)
Georgie had attended an art show displaying some of her favorite pet portraits…her pug Bodhi, Tika the Macaw, Sushi the guinea pig. All were on display, however it was Georgie that was approached to be a subject. Photographer Errol Barr knows she’ll be perfect as one of the pinup-style car models at the Tri-Local Antique Car Show. Childhood dream come true! Aleta is shocked at Georgie’s choice of attire, and Georgie’s ex-husband/cop can’t keep his eyes in his head. But despite having the time of her life strutting around the cars and facilitating a possible love interest for Aleta, the two can’t seem to stay away from mayhem and murder.
Sandi Scott has devised a marvelous mystery filled with twists and turns and some really cool cars. However, she has left plenty of clues to challenge one’s inner Sherlock. Although her narrative is descriptive, she doesn’t rely solely on telling her story. Her use of clever banter and engaging dialogue made this story a favorite. Fans will be thrilled, and enough background into previous storylines and character connections are revisited, without any spoilers, that any newbie can start right here. But, wherever you start this is a delightfully fun series. With which sister do you identify? I hope I’m Georgie, but I know I have some Aleta tendencies…
Sixty something Georgie’s exuberance for life will keep you smiling throughout the book but the fact that she is funny, quirky, adventuresome and quick to drag her twin sister into her escapades is what keeps readers wanting more Pet Portraits Cozy Mysteries.
Georgie Kaye finds herself the subject of the art this time. Georgie agrees to model for a photographer taking pictures at an antique hot rod show. Although Georgie is living a dream of being a pin-up girl; her more conservative twin, Aleta, is the sister that draws the attention of an admirer. When the body of one of the vendors is found inside one of the cars the prime suspect is Aleta’s admirer. Georgie Kaye has to prove his innocence and prove to Aleta that it is okay for her to have a boyfriend after years of being a widow.
Author Sandi Scott once again pens a wonderfully funny cozy mystery. Although this is book 5 in the Pet Portraits Mystery Series it can be enjoyed as a stand-alone mystery. Georgie Kaye, her sister Aleta, and Georgie’s ex-husband police investigator Stan have a wonderful dynamic in solving murders. The car show is a fun setting for a murder mystery. I loved seeing Georgie having fun being a model the car show. I recommend this book to mystery lovers, and I look forward to the next book in the series.
**I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All thoughts and opinions are entirely my own. **
Sandi Scott NEVER disappoints with her constant delivery of believable characters, endearing familial relationships, and writing of outrageously funny dialogue for Georgie who is a complete and total hoot! all while never having Georgie take her eye off the ball–her focus always being to find out who murdered an innocent. In this volume of intrigue Georgie is set as a 1950’s pin-up model for a photographer at a local car show, but as usual with Georgie, murder is not too far behind. The ins and outs of Georgie’s detailed nature of observation as usual—gets her into trouble— but luckily for her and the reader—help is never too far behind–thanks to her own quick thinking to include her always on-call-for-Georgie, attentive ex, Stan.
This character Georgie reminds me of Columbo–where a murder victim is his focus–so it is with Georgie. Georgie will strike up ‘social’ conversations, be: gracious, seemingly clueless, as loud as necessary, or make friends where needed–in order to get information, paying attention to every little thing (and eating as many deserts as possible), while never letting the fact that a life was taken escape the reader. Georgie always does what she believes she needs to in order to get to the bottom of things which is noble, and she does it with flare, care, sensitivity, and comedy as well as insight. The only words missing are, “Just one more thing…” 🙂
Where there is Georgie there is always the saying of the most outrageous things, hi-jinx, fun, laughing out loud, and the constant love and deep connection she shares with her twin Aleta, her children, her ex, and her new friend Obby. These books leave you feeling good, and always end too soon! 🙂 If you haven’t tried one of these books yet, you can start at any in the series because they will pull you in and give you enough detail about the series and characters so that the reader misses nothing. Enjoy!
Love this series. Fun, fast reads. Georgie and Aleta are a fun pair. Georgie is the outspoken one and main character. I get a great picture of the story in my head while reading. My visions of what Georgie an d Aleta look like changes all the time. I like how the story unfolds to reveal the mystery.
Another great read by Sandi. I am always intrigued to see what Georgie is up to and what she is trying to drag her twin sister into. Georgie always seems to find a murder mystery everywhere she goes. She always amazes me with what kind of stunts she pulls off. I can not wait to see what the next book has in store for us with Georgie and her sister.
I received an ARC copy from the writer Sandi Scott… what a wonderful series. It’s a fun read. The relationship between twin sisters as they sleuth together is full of fun. I love Georgie’s conflict she feels about ex-husband and potential new boyfriend – and the fact she still fells sexy at her age… can’t wait till the next book…
Classic Cars and Murder!
This cozy murder mystery is part of the Pet’s Portraits series. This is the best, so far, of the bunch. It is humorous and fun. This author can paint such a detailed picture with her words, and yet, it is never too much! I love the way the sisters are always poking and jabbing each other, just like real life.
I received this book for free and voluntarily chose to post my honest review.
my favorite twins are back in quirky action! I enjoyed an advance copy.
the murder may occur at the antique car show, but their really biggest adventure this time is dating!
how do they resolves personalities, murder, betrayal and devious plots?
how about the frustrating adventures of senior dating – what its like when you are divorced or widowed with grown up kids and responsibilities ?
toss in adult relationship baggage, and you have a great recipe for fun and crazy!
another witty and awesome read.
Love this series. Love this author. Love these characters. Georgie Kaye and her twin sister Aleta go to a classic car show. Georgie dressed outlandishly, as usual , wants to be a pin-up model for the car.But it was Aleta who captured the eye of handsome Marley Gillibrand. Georgie wants her sister to start dating again, but Aleta is resisting. She hasn’t been on a date since her husband William died Then a worker from the lemonade stand is murdered inside Marley’s car and he is a suspect, Georgie, of course jumps right into the investigation, asking Stan, her ex for help. Marley disappears making him look guilty. Georgie snoops around the car show grounds, interviewing the murdered girl’s boss, Brock Deeds and co-worker, Pete. She finds out some interesting facts and eventually puts two and two together and figures out who murdered the girl. Along the way Georgie mingles with Stan, and Obby , her new love interest. Does Georgie make a choice? What about Aleta? Date or no date. Definitely a book you’ll want to read.
This series by Sandi Scott keeps getting better with each new addition to the series! Twin sisters Georgie and Aleta are always up to something with Georgie usually leading the way. They are a great example of what women in their sixties can do. In this story, Georgie has been asked to be a photo model at the car show, and goes dressed in classic 50’s attire of a pencil skirt and tight sweater. With her full figure, all the men are noticing her.
In this particular story we also learn more about the twins’ past, including more about their marriages. Georgie has been on a few dates with Obby, the art dealer, and actually asks him out. It is a big step for her. She is still very attracted to her police lieutenant ex-husband, Stan, and has felt guilty about dating Obby. She’s starting to lose some of the guilt.
In the meantime, Aleta is attracted to a man who was showing a vintage car at the car show and immediately expressed an interest in her. Unfortunately he’s also a murder suspect, with the victim being found dead in his car.
As usual there is a cast of interesting characters. There are enough clues given along the way to help the reader identify the killer before the climax of the book. Georgie must have nine lives the way she survives the dangerous situations she gets herself into.
One of my favorite parts of the book is at the beginning when Georgie is at an art opening of her pet portraits. I loved reading the descriptions of the various works and how they captured the personality of each animal. I hope Sandi Scott continues to add more scenes like this into her next books in the series.
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for a fair review. I appreciate the opportunity to read these books. I highly recommend this book and the Pet Portraits Series!
Love this series so much it’s a winner
Yet another entertaining book in this series starring Georgie Kaye and her twin sister, Aleta. 70-something Georgie is asked to model at an antique car show and doesn’t hesitate to take up the challenge. Her sister, however, is rather more reluctant. When someone dies at the show, Georgie makes it her mission (as always!) to discover the truth about situation and to bring the killer to justice. While juggling (and resisting) romantic overtures, the twins investigate the possibilities as to who might have had a motive to kill the lemonade stand manager. The story rolls along, as always a mix of fun and curiosity that keeps the reader guessing along the way. Sandi Scott has a knack for creating a story that catches the reader’s attention until the finale, and despite the brevity of each book (I would love a longer tale!), her books always live up to expectations.
I received a complimentary advance copy of this book, and this is a voluntary and honest review.
Hi Y’all!! Sorry just could not help it. I may not be the target audience for this author, but……..I really loved this book! I get a kick out of incredible smart Georgie and her twin sister Aleta. The book is clean, no cursing, and the action is top notch along with some fine dialogue and a little bit of romance. This is one cozy that you can read in this series without having read the others, but why deprive yourself. Pick them all up and enjoy the adventures of a hilarious sexagenarian sleuth.
This is another delightful tale about Georgie and her adventures. I don’t know if I’m getting more used to her, but I felt this book was a little more realistic than some of the others. I could really see Georgie doing some of the antics she does in this book. It’s a good, pleasant read.
This is my favorite Georgie book to date. At a show of Georgie’s paintings, she is approached by a man who wants her to model at a classic car show. Of course, Georgie can’t resist and takes her twin sister Aleta. Georgie is a big hit and her ex-husband Stan is tracking her throughout the show. Shortly after the concessionaire takes a break after serving the twins, she is found dead. Who killed the lemonade lady? And can Georgie stay out of trouble?
I received a copy of this book to proof and review.
