Received ARC version from Sandi Scott. Loved this story. Reminds me of Cozy Mysteries from Rita Lakin. I like that our main character (Georgie) is smart/spunky/strong. I look forward to reading more stories from Sandi Scott on
Georgie takes a trip to the cabaret with her youngest son, and instead
of meeting the lead after the show, she is found dead on stage.
As usual, twins Georgie and Aleta manage to get into lots of trouble,
yet still solve the case.
Unusually, however, more of the action is focused on Georgie, her
sleuthing, and her first attempts at dating someone other than Stan
since their twenty years’ past divorce.
I enjoyed reading an advance copy of this book.
In my opinion, as murder, mayhem, and sister power abound, great fun
and great reading are to be found.
Pet portrait artist Georgia Faye is excited that her youngest son is coming to visit with his old school friend. They decide to surprise Georgia with a night on the town including a Cabaret show. Little to do they realize that the main performer (who is retiring after the show) winds up dead.
Georgia is once again on the case and taking along her twin Aleta, ex-husband Stan, and the rest of the gang for the ride. Everyone appears to love Madame Bray, so who wanted her dead? As Georgia delves deeper into the case, she finds another side to Madame Bray and a number of suspects to add to her list.
As with the previous books in the series, book number four is also filled with madcap hijinks, quirky but lovable characters, and lots of twists and turns to keep you guessing whodunit all the way until the end.
These pet portraits cozy mysteries are a lot of fun. Georgie and Aleta are really wonderful detectives. I enjoy that they are older women. I loved the addition of Georgie’s son Andrew and his friend to the cast of characters. Total chaos reigns before the killer is determined. I could not put it down.
It was not badly written, but I felt like the main characters tried to had to be cute, pert and funny. So it did not hold my interest.
This is another great mystery solved by Georgie. Her antics will have you laughing and shaking your head. How she gets out of tight spots is beyond me. But we learn that we can sometimes change our minds to make our life better.
Another great visit with Georgie and her family. This time her son, Andrew, comes into town with his partner and they take Georgie to a cabaret. Naturally, there’s a murder so Georgie has to investigate. So we get another rollicking adventure with Georgie, her twin sister, her son and her ex-husband. Lots of fun!!
A funny, quirky, suspenseful and thoroughly satisfying read. Scott is a Cozy Mystery Queen!
*I received a complimentary ARC of this story in order to read and provide a voluntary, unbiased and honest review, should I choose to do so.
I love, love, love these books and I wish I had a twin. Sandi Scott’s interaction between the sisters is such fun. I miss having someone next door where I could run in my bathrobe for coffee. A bunch of us use to get in our robes, jump in our golf carts and watch DWTS with a glass (or two) of wine. Georgie’s outlandish outfits reminds me of our Red Hat Ladies outings. Georgie’s old fashioned attitude toward dating is so refreshing in this day and age. I enjoy this series so much that I really don’t care who gets killed or “whodunit”. These are fun reads that don’t find the necessity for four letter words or gratuitous sex. Don’t get me wrong, I’m far from being a prude and do read all other types of books. It’s just nice to have such a good option.
(Disclaimer: I was provided an Advanced Reader’s Copy of the book in exchange for an honest review). Reading Murder at the Cabaret by Sandi Scott was a homecoming. To visit once again with Georgie and Aleta, the twins, was so exciting especially since I knew that this was going to be an interesting and exciting murder mystery, to say the least. This time around Georgie is by herself in solving the murder since she is outside of her ex-husband’s, a detective, precinct area. I have no doubt, however, that she will be even more determined and resourceful than ever on her own. The protagonist is an interesting, quirky funny, and a very lively mature sleuth. Regardless how much authority figures or in this case the police or the cabaret company push back, or her personal life tries to derail her, there isn’t an instance where she hesitates, cowers or stops her investigation. I have read previous writings of the author and once again she has met my expectation with reliable, imaginable, depth and width of characters and world building in which the storyline and your imagination can take place. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND Murder At The Cabaret by Sandi Scott –Tex.
Georgie’s son is home to visit. He takes his mom to the cabaret to meet with a friend along with watching the show. When the star comes on stage, she is dead. Once again, the case would not exist without Georgie’s expertise.
This is an enjoyable series with an artist, her twin sister, and the rest of the families thrown in the mix. I was given a free copy to read and review.
I enjoyed reading it? Good plot and great characters.
Georgie Kaye is over the moon that her youngest son, Andrew, and his best friend, J.R., are coming home for a visit. Andrew and J.R. surprised Georgie by taking her to watch a cabaret show. Andrew had seen the show before so he managed to get front row seats for Georgie. The group was barely been seated when the show was to start with the headliner Madam Bray. She was introduced but did not appear, so the announcer called for the curtains to be opened. The curtains opened on a body lying motionless on the stage. Georgia can’t resist a mystery and gets involved in the investigation this time enlisting Andrew and J.R.’s help.
I loved this book. This is the best on in the series so far. I really did love seeing Georgie with her son. Georgie is a strong and interesting character but being with her son really brought out more of her personality. In addition to the murder, Georgie has agreed to go on a date with fellow art lover Obby. This makes her ex-husband Stan jealous and even more determined to win back Georgie’s heart. This makes for some humorous discussions. I could go on, but I will sum it up by saying this…great plot, plenty of twist and turns, strong complex characters, entertaining setting, and just the right amount of romance and humor.
I recommend this book and look forward to the next. I was provided with an ARC of this book with the hopes I would review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Sixty something pet artist Georgie Kaye has an unique flare for fashion and solving murders. Her one-of-a-kind approach to life and her sharp wit will have you chuckling throughout the story. This fun story is book #4 in A Pet Portraits Cozy Mystery series but could easily be read as a stand alone.
I have received an advanced readers copy of this book and am voluntarily reviewing it. I have enjoyed this series of murder mysteries with the twins Georgie and Aleta. I love their twin dynamic. That makes these books interesting and funny at times. Georgie is the flamboyant twin and takes the risks in the murder investigation in this book. Georgie’s son and his friend, Andrew & Jr invite her to watch a cabaret performance. The main performer is found dead as the curtain opens. This is pretty dramatic! Georgie really wants to get to the bottom of everything. She visits the police station, she interviews the different performers backstage & gets in a little bit of trouble too. Meanwhile her life is happening. A very nice man Obby wants to take her out on a date. Her ex-husband Stan who is a good friend yet she’s not sure about his flirtations is also a constant in her daily life. And we can’t forget her sweet tooth! I get a chuckle out of what she likes to wear and where she ends up having a sweet treat. She does a great job solving the mystery and involving the cops at the very end. It all works out. I like a murder mystery that gets wrapped up in the end. I certainly enjoyed the drama with Stan her ex and Obby, her new date. I wonder what type of mystery will be in the next book and which man will be wanting her attentions!
Sandi Scott has done it again. This is yet another entertaining story in this fun series. In this book we get a peak at the twins earlier life. We also meet her son. I have enjoyed each of the books in this series and look forward to more. I recieved a ARC of this book with the understanding I would leave an honest review.
“Murder at the Cabaret“ earns 5/5 Neon Colored Boas…Murderously Fun!
My favorite “senior citizens” are back! Sandi Scott has once again thrown Georgie Kaye and her twin sister Aleta into another very clever murder mystery this time at the cabaret. As women of a ‘mature’ age, they are the best of friends often adding a few giggles by trading barbs and snarky insights on each other’s behavior…don’t all sisters act like that? Although Aleta’s husband has passed away, Georgia’s ex-husband and police detective is very much alive and often a source of complaint. Stanley Toon left the family on an ‘adventure’ which cost him his place in her heart, but as he keeps a very close eye on Georgie, some might say ‘stalkerishly’ close, he may be revealing he still has very strong feelings for her, and she recognizes their friendship. Is it jealousy when he sees Georgie’s bubbling excitement for Malcolm “Obby” Oberfield? An art dealer and world traveler he is opening up his own art gallery and hopes to share it and more with Georgie, herself an artist.
Both Georgie and Aleta are proud mothers who enjoy their children especially since they’ve long left behind their “terrible teens.” Georgie is especially excited to have her son Andrew home for a visit, and after dinner of pizza and salad, he has exciting plans for the evening. Andrew and his close friend TJ take Georgie to the opening of The Clever Bulldog Cabaret to enjoy the burlesque show starring Madame Bray. However, the excited crowd anticipating Madame Bray’s performance is shocked to find her dead! Georgie loves her mysteries almost immediately asking questions like a pro. But, will she take on more than she can handle? Not Georgie…she’s prepared to play the “age” card anywhere necessary to gain access and put witnesses and suspects at ease. She’ll uncover the truth.
Ok, the entertainment never ended. Between the humorous banter of the sisters, the dynamic with ex-husband/friend, the mother/son connection, and issues with “dating” each page was loads of fun. The murder mystery is engaging with lots of motives and suspects to consider and challenge one’s inner detective, but it’s the characters with which I am invested. I enjoy my “cozy” heroines of any age, but as a ‘senior citizen’ myself, I delight in the manner these two women are portrayed. They are opposite in many ways (quiet and bold, subdued and flashy, knocking on the door or bashing it in)), but their determination, intelligence, and capabilities are obvious and well praised in this series.
Georgie and Aleta are enjoying some pastry at the Third Coast Cafe. They are also discussing Stan Toon, Georgie’s ex-husband. Meanwhile, Georgie is waiting for her son, Andrew, and his friend, J.R. to arrive. Outside the cafe, Georgie spots an old friend, Malcolm Oberfield, an art dealer and world traveller. Georgie calls him Obby and he informs her that he had recently purchased the Occhipinti Art Gallery. As they part company, they agree to get together later to “view” Obby’s art collection.
Meanwhile, Andrew and his friend are in town to visit both Georgie and Stan, Andrew’s parents. As a surprise, Andrew and J.R. take Georgie to The Clever Bulldog Burlesque show.
As the main event with Madam Bray is announced, there is no response from backstage. Tonight is to be Madam Bray’s final performance, as she is planning to retire. When the curtain finally goes up, Madam Bray is on the stage – DEAD!! The case falls to the Northbrook Police Department, so Stan is not involved with the investigation. Unfortunately the lead investigator, Detective Schwartz, does not seem to have any interest in the case.
Who killed Madam Bray? Why was she killed? Is Stan really jealous of Obby? Why do the Northbrook Police seem so indifferent in a murder investigation? Can Georgie figure out who killed Madam Bray?
This story has less focus on the mystery than some of the earlier books, but it is still a main element. The dynamics surrounding Georgie’s social life add an extra dimension to the story. Fear not, the humor is still there, with a Maine Coon named Tiny and two Pugs named Kong and Godzilla.
I love the main characters, twins Georgie and Aleta and their crazy lives. In this segment, Georgie is waiting for her son, Andrew and his friend JR to come for a visit. Her ex-husband, Stanley, who she is good friends with and who wants Georgie back is a detective. Georgie’s son takes his mother out to a cabaret to see a show put on by a couple he and his friend JR know. Unfortunately, while having fun at the show with the boys, the lead act drops dead on stage. Georgie’s snooping sees that Madam Brey was murdered. And so goes the mystery. Georgie also has a little crush going on with an art dealer friend, Obby who takes her on a date at the same burlesque theater which helps Georgie investigate a little more. As usual, she gets herself in hot water, but with pumping a jealous Stan and getting information, onward Georgie goes. In this book Aleta is there but not as involved with solving the case as she usually is and Obby seems to pick up the slack getting a big kick out of Georgie’s sleuthing. With lots of laughs, a jealous ex-husband who wants Georgie back, A friend who wants to be more, her son and his friend we go on another Adventure! I love this series and can’t wait for more since with Obby now in the picture and happy to help Georgie in her sleuthing and Aleta trying to push her back toward Stan we have more fun and mystery solving, of that I am sure! I received and ARC from the author but the opinions expressed here are strictly my own.
Georgie Kaye has a new admirer,Malcolm Oberfield. Her son Andrew comes for a visit with his friend J.R. Georgie doesn’t want her ex Stan to be jealous of Obby and she doesn’t know how Andrew will react. Georgie goes to a cabaret performance with Andrew and J.R. and one of the star performers is murdered, right on stage. She appeared to be strangled. Was it Harold Dupre, the Master of Ceremonies? or Tammy Laloup, one of the dancers in the show? or did Madame Bray have enemies? A Detective Schwarz was handling the case and did not want Georgie’s interference.Could it have been Jenny Holt, Madame Bray’s undersudy and reputed to be Mr. Bray’s mistress? Or maybe the husband Mr. Bray did the dirty deed. Georgie, Aleta, Andrew and J.R. continue snooping and looking for clues. Finally when Georgie is on her date with Obby, something she learned while snooping puts all the pieces in place and she solves the mystery
