Georgie and Aleta have a weekend get away at a lodge in the wilderness. They are really enjoying the nightly bonfire and Aleta has attracted a local forest ranger. When the woman who runs the lodge and everyone hates turns up dead the sisters extend their stay. When Stan, Georgie’s ex , shows up it’s like a family vacation since the family past time seems to be investigating murders. This was the best book of the series so far. We learn more about Georgie’s fears and insecurities. It’s nice to see this tough funny character has a softer side. I absolutely love this series and this author! I highly recommend this funny, exciting, light read!
This series gets better with each new book. In this one Gerogie and Aleta go to a wildlife preserve outside of Chicago to get away for a rest. Georgie is spending her days sketching the birds while Aleta is checking out the new park ranger. Naturally their relaxing weekend is pre-empted by Georgie finding a dead body. Amid rumors of devil worshipers, George follows one out to a place in the woods after dark. The killer kidnaps Aleta and Georgie has to find her before she is the next victim. With Stan’s help the case is solved.
I always enjoy reading the Pet Portrait Series. I love seeing the predicaments Aleta and Georgie get into. This time they’re out in the wilderness. This Series always leaves me laughing.
Georgie and her ex Stan are getting more cozy in this one. Aleta has also found a new admirer.
As usual, there is a murder or two which the sisters help solve. Both find themselves in peril this time.
This book was just as witty and interesting as previous books in this series. The twins are off on an adventure outside the city. Even though they are out of their element they still find a murder to get involved with. Aleta meets a ranger and they are seeming to find a lot of interest in each other. Stan came after Georgie, which was good since he was there when she needed him most. Look for more about what the sisters are up to in following books in this series.
I received an arc copy of this book for free and because I loved it so much I had to leave an honest review.
Really love this series. Love the age related references : Yogi Bear and Booboo too, lol. Book reads really fast and is over before you know it, leaving you wanting more..
The heroine(s) may have life experiences but are still very ‘young’. I can almost see Georgie as a 1920’s flapper. That is what she makes me think of.
Even can be read all by itself. No I have not read them in order. However, I do admit that it does help with the nuances of the characters. I know I need to go back and catch up since I want more of what happen with Georgie and her ex.
This is my honest and freely given review. I did receive an ARC book.
The Kaye twins are at it again. Adventure, good times, and murder just seem to find them where ever they go. The Pet Portraits Cozy Mysteries are stand alone books. But they are really enjoyed if you read them in order. It helps you to understand the dynamics between the characters better. Reading another Pet Portrait Cozy is like turning on your favorite TV show. It’s very entertaining and enjoyable.
I really like this series featuring the 60 something twins Georgie and Aleta, there is a great mix of humour, mystery and excitement. This book finds them enjoying a weekend at a lodge in a wildlife reserve.
The humour is mainly from the twins who are forever bickering with each other, but in a friendly way, especially as they are so different from each other, Georgie is almost an elderly artistic hippy and the other is far more straight-laced.
The mystery aspect is covered by an ingenious plot concerning a dead body found in the lake and the sisters’ subsequent sleuthing, especially when Georgie’s ex-husband police officer is called in to help the local police with the investigation. But the sisters get a bit too close to the truth, and this gets one of them in the culprit’s sights providing a genuinely exciting situation. A bit of romantic spice is also introduced by the attraction between a handsome park ranger and Aleta.
I received an advance copy of this book, but have voluntarily written this review.
In this latest sisters sleuth installment, an unpopular worker at a lodge where the sisters are vacationing (after being gifted the vacation) is found dead. Enter Aleta and Georgie to get involved up to their eyeballs in figuring just who the murderer is. No spoilers here, just know that there are great characters, a wonderfully developed and told story, laugh out loud moments, an ever emergent ex-husband, some new flames(?), this cozy is sure to please. Lots of twists and turns to keep you guessing, a ending that is certainly not what/who you think, just chalk it up to a great murder and mayhem mystery! Although this is book 8 in the series, the details allow it to work as a stand alone as with all the others, however, I COMPLETELY recommend you go back and read the others as the characters are more developed as each “adventure” presents. Sandi has another certain winner here and I can hardly wait for her next book!
Murder at the Bonfire is the latest addition to the Pet Portrait book series. Twin sisters, Georgie and Aleta are staying at a cabin in the woods for the weekend when someone turns up murdered. I always enjoy trying to figure out who commits the crime in these stories, but I love even more reading about the relationships in these books. I’m enjoying the storyline of Aleta meeting a new love interest and Georgie finally admitting that she still has feelings for her ex-husband, Stan. My only criticism, how can Georgie not like the Cubs!
The sisters are at it again! Thinking they needed a get-away, Georgie and Aleta decide to take Georgie’s pet portrait client up on his offer of a stay the weekend in a cabin at Fallen Oaks Lodge since he couldn’t use it anyway. The lodge had so many incredible amenities the sisters were thrilled. They decided to take a walk down to the lake and Georgie got to drawing while Aleta took a dip before Georgie dove in. A Park Ranger, Luke stopped by the water to shoo of one of the workers who seemed to be drunk, introduced himself and seemed to have set his sights on Aleta asking if they were going to the bonfire at the lodge. They definitely were! They were having a wonderful first day. But when the sisters are around, all good things come to a murder, it seems. The manager, Joyce, a hated woman by all the employees, was found dead. The sisters decided they had to find out what happened, who killed Joyce, so once again they stick their nose into the case. When the sheriff calls his good friend to help him investigate, it just happens to be Stan, Georgie’s ex who is constantly trying to get back with her. With lots of humor, and a lot of intuition, the girls are at it again. Will they be a help or will they get in the way or will they get hurt this time? I love this series and can’t wait to see what happens next with Georgie and Aleta! I received an ARC from the author, but the opinions expressed here are strictly my own.
Off on a mini vacation the twins are hoping to enjoy a weekend at a local park lodge. But of course for them, trouble and murder are not far behind. A dead body floating in the lake and rumors of satanic rituals peak their interest. But all is not about murder, Aleta has a love interest and Georgie’s ex-husband also shows up. The bonfires with s’mores, long walks in the woods and a hunky park ranger should be enough for the twins. But with a long list of suspects, Georgie and Aleta just have to do what they do best..solve the murder. I received an ARC of this book for my honest review.
I love the twin sleuths. Georgie and Aleta embark on a weekend in nature to relax. However, soon they are in the middle of another murder. As always there are well developed characters , way too many suspects and lots of twists in the plot. In this mystery, Aleta meets a man and sparks fly. Georgie is kidnapped. We learn even more about Stan and Georgie’s relationship. Warning! Once you start this one, you will not want to put it down!
Sandi Scott should have to put a warning label on her books because once you start reading you can’t stop. I love this sister team. Georgie and Aleta are funny, smart and so cute with each other. I love that in this story Aleta meets a man and sparks fly. I also loved the insight into Georgie and Stan’s relationship. Let me warn you if you choose to read this fun cozy you might get nothing done but reading but it is so worth it.
This book is wonderful and I think it’s worth getting what could be better then a cozy murder with animals the best of both worlds
I really enjoy this Pet Portrait mystery series. Each book has been an enjoyable cozy mystery that could be read alone.
In this one the twins Aleta and Georgie are off on a relaxing adventure at a woodsy resort. I can envision the smell of a bonfire with s’mores being made. Or a walk in the woods with the crunch of pine needles underfoot followed by a cooling dip in the lake all make for an idyllic setting!
It was nice to immerse myself on a mini vacation even though murder & mayhem ensue with darker forces lurking underneath. Tensions mount at the resort with a manager who is not very polite to her staff. Georgie’s ex-husband Stan ends up on the scene to help out with the murder investigation. Aleta is smitten with the local park ranger!!
These twins are a hoot! I love the banter and their personalities that are not twin-like but totally different. Silently and secretly I’m rooting for Stan to get back with Georgie but meanwhile I enjoy all the drama!!
Some nailbiting tension happens as the murderer abducts Georgie! I was not expecting that!! I do like a good mystery plot and unexpected twists add to a satisfying ending. Enjoy!!
I have received an advanced readers copy and I’m happy to provide my opinion in this review.
The twins, Georgie and Aleta are off for a getaway weekend in a cabin. Georgie took this in payment of a portrait she did and thought it would be fun to be in the woods. This surprised Aleta considering how Georgie doesn’t like bugs and creepy crawly things. Anyway things are going pretty well. There seems to be some tension between the staff and the manager of Fall Oaks Lodge. Aleta finds a love interest, and the manager gets killed. Of course you know the girls can’t walk away from a murder, so they stay on longer…..and wish they hadn’t. Soon things get out of hand for both girls and danger is definitely in the mix. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.
I loved this book. Have read this complete series so far. These two sisters will give you fits of the giggles. All you ladies should read this book.
The twins are back with another mystery to solve. I think this is my favorite, so far. This time they’re at a resort in the wilderness, where spooky things are afoot and romance is in the fresh air. These characters are lively and the book is well written. I’m looking forward to the next book in the series. I received a free copy of this book and chose to make a voluntary, unbiased review.
I enjoy these books more and more because these twins just seem to be at the wrong place at the right time. These are laugh out loud stories because of the interaction between Georgie and Aleta. The very demure Aleta gets a little spicey this time around and I’m waiting to see if this continues in their next adventure along with where poor Stan might be. Sandi Scott is my go to when I need humor along with a juicy mystery.
Georgia gets a retreat in a cozy cabin in place of payment for one of her pet portraits, of course her twin comes along! Of course murder comes along for the ride. Both sisters have a romantic interest if they can just solve the murder. Great addition to the series!
I received an ARC. This is my honest review.
