Even though this is the 8th book in the series, the story feels fresh and new to me. When a murder hits close to home, Nikki and Sonia are hot on the trail of the culprit. I absolutely love their relationship and it goes to show that age doesn’t matter when it comes to people you love. Nikki’s love of animals and how she treats each one as her own just melts my heart and Sonia’s Chihuahua, Princess, sounds like a little love. I loved being surprised at the end. This series is extremely enjoyable to read and I highly recommend it! The author provided me with an ARC but my opinions are my own.
Nikki’s dog walking and pet sitting business is thriving due to a new recommendation from her friend Sonia Whitter. Nikki is excited to get her day started, caring for her two new charges, Mia and Gala, two Afghan Hounds, as well as their finicky cat, Perty. Once everyone is fed, Nikki leashes the two dogs for their morning walk and heads them out the door. When she is met with resistance, she encourages the dogs to leave the house and head down the long driveway. Halfway down the dogs refused to go any further, their attention focused on the mansion next door. When the dogs began to growl Nikki took a closer look and realized there was a dead body in the doorway. When it became apparent the victim was a notorious gossip columnist, Nikki and Sonia once again put their expertise together to unravel the clues.
As Nikki and Sonia team up once again, they find the columnist had as many secrets as the celebrities he wrote about. This delightful cozy highlights the friendships of both human and animal, situated in a small-town setting. Numerous suspects and a suspenseful ending make this an enjoyable, quick read. I received an advanced copy of this book from the author. The opinions are entirely my own.
Nikki Greene, Dahlia’s dog walker, has such a relationship with all of the dogs she walks. She treats each and every one like they are her own. She has agreed to dog sit Doug and Karina Walford’s two afghan hounds, Mia and Gala as well as their ornery cat, Perty while they are away. When Nikki takes the dogs on their morning walk they stopped in front of the house next door refusing to move. When Nikki looks toward the front door she notices a body lying beside the open door. She discovers it is Gustav who writes Gossip with Gustav for the local paper.
Quinn, a detective for the Dahlia Police Department and Nikki’s boyfriend, comes to investigate the death of Gustav.
Of course Nikki’s friend, Sonia Whitter, wants to help Nikki investigate as well. I love the relationship between Nikki and Sonia despite their age difference. Princess, Sonia’s chihuahua, is quite a precious little dog.
Who could have murdered Gustav? Steve Harcourt, the number one bachelor in Dahlia? Shana, his girlfriend no one knew about? Drew Bixby, a local car dealer?
This is the eighth book in the Wagging Tail Cozy Mystery but each one could be a standalone.
This is a must read for those who love cozy mysteries with dogs in them. Cindy Bell has done a great job with this story and the characters.
