“Clever and entertaining, you’ll love this charming Golden Age mystery series. And the fashion is to die for!” – Molly C. Quinn, actress, CastleThere’s a skeleton in the attic! When Ginger Gold arrives at her childhood London home ~ Hartigan House ~ she’s shocked to discover decade-old remains from some poor woman in the attic.
It’s a mystery that once again puts Ginger alongside the handsome … from some poor woman in the attic.
It’s a mystery that once again puts Ginger alongside the handsome Chief Inspector Basil Reed. Who is the victim? And how on earth did she end up in Ginger’s home?
In order to solve the troubling puzzle, Ginger and her good friend Haley Higgins recreate a soirée hosted in 1913 by Ginger’s late father, George Hartigan. A shadow of suspicion is cast on her father’s legacy, and Ginger isn’t so sure she wants to know the truth about the man she dearly loved.
Before the night is over, another person is dead. Can Ginger stop the killer before she becomes the next victim?
Researching for the Ginger Gold Mysteries has been so much fun. I hope you sense that as you read. Ginger Gold is smart, savvy, and delightful. The fashions, the dances, the CRIME. The character of Haley Higgins, a medical student at the London Medical School for Women allows me to further delve into another keen interest of mine: forensics. Never fear, the Ginger Gold Mysteries are COZY, so no scary, graphic on-stage violence. You’ll find these books to be clean reads, with no swearing or sex. I hope you enjoy the Ginger Gold Mystery series!
Hop aboard the 1920s!

This is a Fabulous Book. This whole series is wonderful so far. I’ve never been into Historical Books, but Lee Strauss is a Fabulous Writer. A Must Read.
This is the third book in the Ginger Gold series. Each one is better than the last. I couldn’t put it down but at the same time did not want it to end. It is set in the flapper era and the author describes the times and the clothing in great detail. The characters are wonderful and believable. I hope Ms. Strauss does not stop writing the Ginger Gold series!
Fun read and love the characters. A hint of romance in this one along with a clever plot twist.
I’m still reading it, is sure has a lot of descriptions of her outfits but when she went to redecorate manor house she was going to paint the floors???
I enjoyed it enough that I bought the other books in the series.
Great read. Kept me guessing; didn’t want to stop reading until the end. Now I want to read more about these entertaining characters.
Enjoy the British cozy mystery best. The characters are believable and era is fascinating to read.
Pleasant afternoon read. Set in post WWI London Lady Ginger Gold assists Chief Inspectot Basil Reed of New Scotland Yard, perhaps doing as much distracting as assisting. Light but charming fare.
Who is That Dead Woman?
4.5 Stars
>Suitable for Teen-Adult
>No memorable harsh language, if any
>No sex
>No gory violence
>Punctuation problem: The writer and/or editor needs to learn that a statement pondering a problem does not require a question mark unless it’s actually a question. Example (not a quote from this book): – “I wonder why there’s a dead body in this room.” NOT “I wonder why there’s a dead body in this room?”
>Enjoyable plot and characters
Plot – no spoilers:
Lady Ginger Gold, whose husband was killed during WWI, returns to her family’s home in England. She’s been living in Boston for many years, therefore there is some humor inserted into the storyline as she reacquaints herself with driving on the left side of the road.
Upon arriving at her family’s home, a room that has been locked up for years and years is reopened and, well look at that! There’s a very, very, very dead body inside.
Ginger is able to determine by the clothing that the woman must have been wealthy. It’s only logical to assume that the mystery woman had been a guest at the last party held before the house was closed up and the owners moved away.
Who was she? Why was she murdered and left there?
Ginger’s strategy is to discover who attended the previous party and then invite them all to a memorial for her now-deceased father. How long will it take for guests to figure out they were at that other gathering so many years ago? Will anyone flinch? What secrets will be revealed?
Light, entertaining reading.
A SAVVY, CHARMING PROTAGONIST IN A LOVELY SETTING IN ENGLAND. ENGAGING CHARACTERS IN AND EASY-TO-READ POIGNANT AND PERFECTLY WRITTEN STORY. AN ADDICTIVE SERIES. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
A FREE BOOK, THIS IS MY HONEST, FREELY GIVEN REVIEW.
Another entertaining book. Be prepared to Google the clothes and the cars, it’s so worth it. I’m glad Chief Inspector Basil Reed is back as well. I like him and am intrigued by his mysterious wife that no one has seen. Haley is in medical school now and is proving herself by assisting in the murder investigation. Ginger is involved again but with good reason as the murder occurred at her father’s house that she inherited. Again more clues about Ginger’s work during the war. This was another great read.
Light reading but entertaining especially for “fashionistas.”
I love this series. Great cozy mysteries. Love the characters. Love the scenes–Strauss does a great job of putting the reader right into the action. A skeleton in the attic meets Lady Gold on her arrival home in England. A great way to start the story. This one kept me guessing as to the murderer and it was quite a surprise. I do enjoy when an author can fool me right to the end! Looking forward to #4 (oops I read #3 before Hartigan House!) I listened to a library copy of the audiobook and Elizabeth Klett does a wonderful job narrating Ginger and Haley’s story, and we can’t forget Boss…he sure can save the damsel in distress!
I received this book for free. I am voluntarily posting this review and all expressed opinions herein are my own.
This is the second book in the Ginger Gold Mystery series. It is a standalone book with no cliffhanger ending. Book Two starts just when Book One ended.
There are references to events which occurred in Book One but the author kindly provided quick summaries to bring the reader up-to-date.
I really enjoyed this book. There is so much that I really liked about this book. Some of the highlights:
• Ginger, the MC, is a lot of fun, bright and personable. I am really enjoying her growing relationship with Chief Inspector Basil Reed.
• The London setting, the fashions, and the time period. It’s so well described that you feel like you’re right there.
• Haley studying to be a doctor – a woman in the 1920’s, how fantastic. As a bonus, she provides her medical insights to Ginger.
• Boss, Ginger’s completely loveable dog and sidekick.
• The murder mystery was a good one. I loved that it was a decade old cold case which possibly involved Ginger’s father as a suspect.
The narrator, Elizabeth Klett, is really superb. She narrated the first book in the series. She has a very pleasant voice with a beautiful English accent. She creates distinctive voices for all of the characters. Her narration was a really great compliment to the written word
Fun historical mystery with a female main character. Lady Gold returns to her English manor after spending her growing-up years in the U.S. A recent widow, she goes to take care of her late father’s estate but finds a body. Her decision to help the officials identify the decades-old corpse and solve the murder introduces the reader to interesting characters and possible romances and other crimes. It’s a fun, entertaining read.
I enjoy all the Ginger Gold historical mysteries. Light, fun reading.
More excellent fun! Ginger and Basil click as they work together to solve a murder and I bet you won’t guess who it was. The story moves along nicely and keeps you entertained. Well edited.
easy read
