An escape to the country… ends in death.Summer 1933. Fresh from the discovery that she has family living nearby, Kitty Underhay has packed her carpet bag, commandeered a chambermaid and set off on a visit to stately Enderley Hall. She’s looking forward to getting to know her relatives, as well as the assembled group of house guests. But when elderly Nanny Thoms is found dead at the bottom of the … dead at the bottom of the stairs after papers of national importance are stolen, Kitty quickly learns that Muffy the dog’s muddy paws on her hemline are the least of her problems.
Calling on ex-army captain Matthew Bryant for assistance, Kitty begins to puzzle out the mystery. And when more shocking murders follow, the stakes are raised for the daring duo as never before. Which of the guests stand to gain from the theft of the documents? And which, as the week progresses, stand to lose their lives?
A charming cozy historical murder mystery that fans of Agatha Christie, T.E. Kinsey and Lee Strauss won’t be able to put down!

In this second installment in the A Miss Underhay Mystery series, Kitty is invited to spend time with her father’s family at Enderley Hall. But when she arrives with her maid Alice, they immediately sense that something is off. Everyone seems to be on edge, and Viola, one of the house guests, claims to have seen a man spying on her through a window. When important papers are stolen from her uncle’s safe, she calls Matt, a former army captain who helped her solve a previous murder, to see if he can help determine who the thief is. When the family’s nanny and a house guest, is murdered, Matt and Kitty become determined to catch the culprit.
I think this is a wonderful addition to the series. Set in the English countryside, this is a charming and engaging read, with a great cast of characters and a gripping mystery. The historical background is well researched and will instantly transport you back to 1930s England. Matt and Kitty complemented each other well, and I look forward to their relationship developing in future books. We also learn new details about the disappearance of Kitty’s mother. This book was a page-turner and I will definitely be reading future books in this series. If you enjoy historical cozies, then I highly recommend this book.

Easy to read fun who done it.
I judge murder mysteries by whether I can figure them out or not. Some times, I know who did it by the end of the first chapter. With this book, I didn’t know til almost the end.
Unrealistic story
Enjoyed it, light read, poor ending but you can tell it’s a series…
Good description of characters. Interesting story with a satisfying finish, yet still leaves a mystery regarding what happened in the main character’s past. Now I’m Interested to see how the theme is developed in the future. I enjoyed the book.
VERY AGATHA TYPE. SURPRISE ENDING
Another cozy mystery from Helena Dixon and another adventure with Kitty Underhay! Upon the discovery (through her father Edgar) of relatives she didn’t know existed nearby Kitty accepts the invitation to visit Enderley Hall. And thus begins a whirlwind tale and murder mystery! When something sinister is afoot and bodies begin to pile up Matt and Kitty are paired together again to help solve the case. I love how the characters of Kitty and Matt have developed and look forward to romance blossoming in the future. From beginning to end, it’s a page turner that will keep you guessing. A worthy follow up to the first book, Murder at Enderley Hall leaves you ready for more adventure and mystery in books to come.
A big thank you to Boukouture for providing this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Murder at Enderley Hall by Helena Dixon was a charming cozy mystery-taking place after World War I on an English country estate. It is the second in the series. Kitty Underhay lives with her grandmother who runs a hotel. Her father was a reprobate, but alive and her mother had gone missing 17 years before, not sure of status. She has just been invited to Enderley Hall, the home of her aunt, her father’s sister. She is curious and excited. She decides to take Alice, a hotel chambermaid with her to act as companion and ladies’ maid for the duration. She gets there and it is not a comfortable place. There are other guests, so she at least is not alone. Before the night is over, there is a murder. Isn’t that just terrific. She decides to call her friend, Matt, who is starting his own private investigations business and had worked in that capacity for her grandmother. He arranged everything and arrived that day. She was much more comfortable with him there. They could investigate together.
As are most cozies, this is a very character-driven story. It’s a time of vast change in England. After WWI the nobility and their lots in life a changed, but for the older ones, especially, in was a difficult transition. A man that was frowned upon as a suitor all of a sudden became acceptable when her inherits; women are wearing makeup; it is difficult to find servants since young people don’t really want to go in to service anymore. Women are nowhere near to being considered equals. Men still run everything and lord it over women. Kitty is an endearing character, naive yet, brave and intelligent. Stuck somewhere between high class and middle class, life is interesting for her. Matt, her friend, has ghosts, mainly left over from the war. Bright enough to be a private investigator, it may not be his best choice because of those ghosts. Did I say charming? That it is. A calmer version of the Keystone Cops, almost. I recommend it.

Kitty only knew that her mother disappeared in 1916 and that her father is rather disreputable, so it’s surprising to find out that she has other relatives living nearby. They are very welcoming, but her aunt simply doesn’t discuss Kitty’s mother. When some valuable scientific papers go missing Kitty calls on the man who has helped before and he arrives about the same time as the first body turns up. Let the sleuthing begin! Danger, suspicions, and other murders ensue. Great characters and a smooth plot full of misdirection and red herrings.

This book is perfectly fine as a stand alone but I liked it so much that I went ahead and bought the earlier book!

This is the second book in this enthralling series, it could easily be read on its own, however I adore series & need to read from the start. There are also some threads running through both books, which aren’t resolved. I love Kitty who can’t keep out of trouble but there is Matt who is once again on hand to lend a hand. I love the dynamics of their burgeoning romance, which certainly hits a rocky patch. The characters have depth & are well portrayed. The pace is good with plenty of red herrings as there aren’t too many suspects. I thoroughly enjoyed the book & eagerly await more in the series
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
