New town…new start…same old problems When sister witches Mag and Clara Balefire moved to the sleepy town of Harmony, Maine, to take over leadership of the coven there, they thought they’d have chance at a new life. Fate had other plans. The Balefires hardly have time to get unpacked before they stumble over a dead body. Local authorities consider the death an open and shut case, but Mag and Clara … authorities consider the death an open and shut case, but Mag and Clara refuse to let the ruling of accidental death stand—not when they’re positive it was murder.
As they dig deeper, secrets begin to surface and the sisters begin to suspect some of the townsfolk aren’t as innocent as they appear. When they discover the killer might be someone close to the victim, they don’t know who to trust.
As if that’s not enough, the local coven expects them to bring their cantankerous, ancient leader to heel, and she’s having none of it.
Between solving two murders and keeping a mischievous, elderly witch with power to spare from wreaking havoc, moving to a small town isn’t quite what the Balefire sisters bargained for.

Interesting, entertaining, grabs your attention and doesn’t let go. Characters are great and so is the plot.
This is a cute new series that just gets better as it goes. She’s doing a great job building characters with each book, and it’s nice that the witches are adults rather than teeny-boppers. She builds in side stories, which I like, and the old witch they have to keep a lid on, Hagatha, makes me laugh with her hijinx, then throws out wisdom when you least expect it. Can’t wait for book 4!
Fun story, but too easy to figure out “who dun it”
A very imaginative book to read near Halloween, this one was a mystery to the end. The 2 main characters make the story! Both are are strong-willed “ their separate ways.
Enjoyed it very much
Love it. A page turner for sure.
Read 2 of these books lots of fun
Good book overall.
A well written cozy mystery

a fun read
Cute and funny with a mystery thrown in! Great read
A fun paranormal crime duo!
Mag and Clara Balefire moved to Harmony to join a new coven. Their antiquities and personal care shop, Balms and Bygones, is a hit with the locals but some magic meddling from the local witch-non-gratis creates complications. Then there is that woman’s body they found below the bridge. The police investigators say it was an accident but their witchy senses tell them it was a murder and they are determined to seek justice for the victim.
This was a fun read and an enjoyable cozy mystery. I liked the interactions between Mag and Clara. Hagatha’s antics were hilarious and Penelope and her cohorts promise future confrontations and drama.
fun light read
Mag and Clara are adorable characters with witchy abilities. I would want to live in their community.
This book was a little slow for me. I did like the no cursing spell put on the business that reminded me of the Good Place. The characters are strong and future books maybe interesting.
Didn’t put it down until I finished it.
A cut above the rest.
Just wasn’t for me.
I didn’t finish it as I just couldn’t get into it. The character development was rather missing, and there was little description of settings either. I didn’t get very far I am afraid…
Good read
