“MacNeal’s images and characters are true to the time, and the resonance of several of the subplots with current events deepen the impact of the tale; MacNeal is to be commended for her skillful weaving of racial and gender issues into an already complex political picture. . . . New to me, looking for more in the series.
Never finished. Couldn’t get to the plot for all the words.
Worse than 1 star. I love the other Maggie Hope books, but this one was a sham attempt by the author to get our money and deliver a truly terrible story. Shame on her.
This book is one in my best-loved series. I have read and loved them all.
The author takes historical events and weaves great stories around them. The lead character, Maggie Hope, is an American who finds herself in London just before and through WWII . Over the course of the series, Maggie quickly develops into a strong woman respected by Winston Churchill, Princess Elizabeth, Queen Mary (the Queen Mother) and now Eleanor Roosevelt. The book keeps you entranced and I got to the end too quickly. I always want more. . Mrs. Roosevelt, as all the famous characters in the series is a well developed character showing intelligence, wit and humanity.

Read this series.
Although you can jump into the series at any book, I suggest you start from the beginning as plots and characters to grow and develop over time.
I enjoy this entire series set in WWII. While it is far-fetched that our heroine would have been in quite so many dangerous exploits, the events and settings seem to be well-researched.
I have loved all of the Maggie Hope books by Susan Elia MacNeil! They are intriguing and give a slice of WW2 history within these fictional stories. I can’t wait for the next one!
If you like strong heroines and espionage, you’ll love this book. There are twists and turns as the heroine, and the reader, try to figure out who done it! I recommend the series and reading them in order.
Have enjoyed this whole series
You should start this series from the beginning. Fictional story but brings to life the horror of WWII, plus I I learned a lot about the intrigue of British politics.
All the books in this series are worth reading and keep getting better. The inclusion of well-known historical figures makes them that much more enjoyable.
Great series combining strong characters with a female lead immersed in the world events of the1940’s
Loved the characters and the story. Her books are always good.
I love Maggie Hope!
I like this series. This book read slower for me than the others, but I wonder if that had more to do with me than the book. I did enjoy it.
Entertaing historical fiction based on some actual events.
Thoroughly enjoyed the book.
wonderful series! Read them all
I love all of the Maggie Hope books, but this one has become my favorite so far. I couldn’t put it down and read it in one sitting.
Better than the last Maggie Hope book but not sure I found the idea that one of the main characters can just be left behind in America terribly believable. Still., worth 4 stars.
