Once upon a time, there lived a best-selling author who wrote about the miracle of true love and finding your forever soul mate. And that was thanks to Elizabeth. His muse…his one and only…his soon to be ex-wife. It’s been six months since the love of his life tore out his heart and set it on fire, and because of this, the “author” hasn’t written a single word—his mind is drier than the Sahara … the Sahara Desert.
That unfortunate fool? That’s me.
My name is Jayden Evans or, as my readers know me, J.E. Sparrow. I’m one of the world’s most adored authors, but now, the only thing beloved is a bottle of whiskey and the unspeakable nasties I somehow find myself in.
But this life of depravity is growing old fast. I need a change. And that comes when I meet Carrie Bell—the woman who stirs something in me I thought long dead.
From the moment we met, I knew she was different. Could she be the one to end this drought? I suppose there is only one way to find out.
Paris. Two strangers in the city of love. What can go wrong?

OK guys – this is for anyone who’s brave enough to read it … MY VERY OWN HONEST OPINION. NO OFFENSE INTENDED!!! I’m just weird with some things in books!
Jayden is a famous romance author. But ever since he left his cheating wife six months ago, he hasn’t been able to write one word. He’s suffering from writer’s block – plus … he’s been busy screwing and drinking himself around town.
But now he met this perfect woman on a plane. She’s inspired him from the second he first saw her.
Bla bla – some interesting but not at all surprising events later – Jayden and Carrie are in Paris to do some research for a new book idea they came up with.
And while researching romance in the most romantic city ever … they fall for each other….. But of course his ex is not done with him and Carrie’s family and past relationships might become problems too …
Well, that was kinda adorable. A sweet mix of rom-com, second-chance, finding yourself again, travel & writing love story. I liked the idea of the book. The idea of this cheated-on author and the cute girl spending time in Paris. But the problem I had with this book started on page one. Page one is a very short page, but I still found THREE things that bothered me. I’m not going to tell you about all of them … it would take too long – just know that one has to do with my AS problem. Readers of my reviews know that I HATE THE AS! The ones that are not used to compare things like as big as .. but the ones that should be a since or a because or just a pausing – or ; (I couldn’t pick you up from school, AS I was busy being a serial killer!) Well – I hate that. It’s a british/legal/official kind of thing, and I can live with the british hero of this book saying it – even though he does it way too much. But all characters use it, because the author uses it. Not her characters. And I hate that. I also know that Monica is from Australia, so I can totally understand her using it. But I still hate it! The book is supposed to be american – at least most characters are. I don’t know why it bothers me so much, but I hate it. Once I see the first AS in a book I want to throw it out the next window, but I always give it a little more time – hoping that it was just a little one/two-time accident. But just like all of Sawyer Bennett’s books, this first one I ever read by Monica, was sooo full of those horrible AS’s too – I couldn’t enjoy this book the way I was hoping to. I skimmed a lot of it.
And don’t think the writing was the only thing bothering me about this book – nope – there’s this little other thing that bothered me … the horrible hero! OK, to be fair – I kinda liked him. He’s been cheated on by the love of his life. I can understand how he had to blow off some steam in the months following, BUT… those months didn’t have to be more than 30% of this book!!!! This book where we want him to find his happily ever after with Carrie!! Ew. Just ew! He was such a disgusting slut the whole first third of the book. That was almost the 2nd reason I was about to throw the book out of the next window. Thank the stars above I was reading in the basement TV room today! I can’t afford a new kindle!
I kept going and it got better. Once we’re in Paris it gets adorable and french and writer-y and cute and sexy. But then there are some weird moments again later on with the ex and Carrie’s secret. Ugh.
Oy, another few things I just remembered … I even googled them, to make sure I wasn’t completely wrong … but I wasn’t … the author didn’t do her research properly. I can only remember two things right now. One was that Jayden mentions – multiple times – that he’s used to even colder weather than Paris and New England – because he’s from London. HA!!! London is wet and yeah it can be cold, but not colder than Paris and New England in the middle of winter. Jeez.
The 2nd thing is the orange butterfly flying around Paris at the end of december? In snowy Paris? Nope. They die in the cold – or they sleep, but they don’t fly around a park.
Another thing had to do with Whiskey but I can’t for the life of me remember what it was … oh and also the topless sunbathing in that country they’re vacationing in? Nope. Verboten in that country! You’ll go to jail and never come out if you’re caught!
It wasn’t a bad book – not that anyone can tell from my rant ^^^ – but please give it a chance – you should btw. always do that – even after you read one of my reviews. Because I know I’m very weird with what I like and hate! I liked this book and I liked the characters – especially the agent! He’s hilarious! It just wasn’t my day for this kind of story/writing/characters/research.
The cover is pretty and the blurb sounded cute too – I would definitely watch it if it turned up on my Netflix one day!!!
Mr. Write by Monica James is the story of Jayden.
Jayden was a romance writer after finding his muse that was his wife. But then he caught her cheating and he left her. Now of course he can’t seem to write anymore, but then he meets Carrie. Carrie brings feeling back to him and makes him want to write again. Now he just has to keep her.
Some funny scenes…overall enjoyed this book.
I had the pleasure of reading Mr. Write by Monica James and what a fun loving, sometimes I wanted to throw my kindle and a very smoken Hawt kind of read!! This was my first book by Monica James and I fell in love with her writing style!! Can’t wait to pick up more books by her!! : )
First I want to say how much I love the name JE Sparrow. This is the pen name that Jayden Evans goes by. Hawt right?? lol He is a best-selling author that “had” a wonderful muse in his wife. She inspired him to write all those wonderful romance books that we all love!! Buttt he ends up catching her with another man and then his writing skills came to a crashing stop. He has writers block. What is he to do???
Jayden then meets Carrie Bell, they meet on a plane in a pretty hilarious situation and he ends up feeling sparks that he hasn’t felt in a long time.
Talk about some laugh out loud moments. Such a fun read!!! Will this girl be his new muse? Well of course as in every romance book we read, Mr. Write is full of drama, his ex still is trying to be in the picture and will not quit trying to get back in his good graces. Umm this is where that Kindle throwing will began…lol She tries everything in her power to hold shit over his head so he can not move on. Grrr lol Plus Jayden has deadlines for his newest book he needs to be finishing, but with all this drama going on, what is an author to do?? lol Well he may just take off to the city of love and see if this can get those juices going again?? Buttt will he take someone with him to help him out? Well you will have to pick up Mr. Write and find out what happens.
I gave Mr. Write 5 “Love me a good Author Book” Stars!!! I always have a love for reading books written about authors. I kinda feel like I am getting a glimpse in the authors mind on how their writing process goes. Sooo cool!!
Jayden is a romance writer. He’s lost his writing mojo after finding out his wife was cheating on him. He’s drowning his sorrows in whiskey and women. At first, I wasn’t big fan of Jayden. He comes off as kind of jerky. There was something about him that I just didn’t connect with at first. He meets Carrie on a plane. I liked Carrie and thought ok I can like Carrie and Jayden together but then they go their separate ways when they get off the plane. When he goes with Daisy, I almost put the book down. I’m glad I continued with this one because Jayden and Carrie’s paths cross again and boom that’s when I started to really enjoy the book. Carrie brings the good side out if Jayden. They have both been hurt from past relationships but they may just be what each other each to heal. I struggled with the first 30% or so with this book but after that I really enjoyed the story.
This is my first Monica James ARC! My first! Yey! The Memories From Yesterday duet is one my favorites… so unforgettable, I’ve read more them more than once!
So this book is about a best-selling writer, who wrote under the pen name JE Sparrow and Jayden Evans in real life. He lost his writing mojo along with this marriage because his muse—who was his cheater of a wife. He tried to do everything there is to do to get his groove back but the funk just wouldn’t let up… until that fateful day when he met Carrie Bell.
This book got me laughing, frustrated and inspired… sometimes I do wonder if fate is just biding its time, waiting to fü€k up your life just when you thought you had it all figured out.
I enjoyed reading it! Even though it has its sad parts, I still consider it a light read… it’s about second chances, taking risks and believing in yourself… Read about Jayden and Carrie journey to forever! Such an awesome read especially this Love Month…
Mr. Write by Monica James is a stand alone, full length romance novel. Meet this perfectly imperfect and a bit flawed characters and fall in love with them like I did.
Jayden is a best-selling author, cheated on by his wife and now he’s suffering every author’s worst nightmare, writers block. His soon to be ex tore his heart out and stomped on it. He desperatedly needs a change and he’s about to get one.
Carrie Bell is a 26 year old art student and she’s nothing like her high-maintenace family. She’s down to earth, but the whole time I had the feeling she hides a secret and I was waiting for the other shoe to drop.
Jayden is a very open character, he despises liars and I totally get him. He’s honest to a fault and I loved, loved this hero. They have some pretty ups and some mega downs and he nearly lets her slip through his fingers.
Mr. Write is a enthralling story, excellent written and beautifully told. I was captivated from chapter one and read the book, cover to cover, in one sitting. I simply couldn’t put it down. Mr. Write is written in the rare single male POV, is a witty and fun read, highly entertaining. This is Monica James at her best! I recommend Mr. Write and give 5+ stars.
How on earth am I to convey my words of how good this book was!
About an author! About love! About life! About so much! I couldn’t put it down! Jayden and his accent, his flirty ways and his whole manner, I just really really liked who he was as a character! In some parts I shook my head but oh he certainly redeems himself over and over! I had no idea how he could have been with certain characters, but then neither did he! Lol
All in all he captivated me! I rather liked Carrie too and she really kept Jayden on his toes!!!
I loved the storyline, the twists, the secrets, the banter was downright great and I loved how it ended! There was also some great words and quotes!! A book definitely worth reading!
Amusing, Sweet & Engaging!
Mr. Write is a charming tale that takes us into the life of Jayden Evans, a best-selling author, as he attempts to move on from a dead-end relationship.
Elizabeth was the love of his life and the inspiration behind his books written about true love. At least she was up until six months ago when she tore out his heart and ripped it in two. After that, he could no longer find the words. They just stopped, leaving him in a funk. To drown his sorrows, he turns to the bottle and starts sleeping around. Although he soon tires of this lifestyle and begins longing for a change.
One day while heading to his publisher’s house, he meets the lovely Carrie Bell. She is beautiful, smells of strawberries and is so different from the women that he is used to. She ignites a spark within him and the words suddenly come flooding back in.
Wanting to help him with his new book, Carrie flies with him to Paris, the city of love. While there, Jayden begins experiencing feelings that he thought were long dead. Could she be the one for him? His soulmate? His second chance at love?
This story felt like a fresh and new take on a second chance romance. I thought it was very well written with a cast of quirky, engaging and authentic characters. I absolutely loved it! If you’re looking for a sexy, heartwarming and satisfying read, then please make sure to check this one out.

A sparkling romance that makes you smile and keeps you going all the way. Jayden is extremely touching in his ups and downs that are always extreme. The sweet Carrie back the level of her bitches that are too close to our favorite author … It’s colorful, intense and puts a good mood, what more?
I really don’t underderstand why I have not read any other books by Monica James because if Mr Write is anything to go by her stories are right up my alley, I loved this book !!!!
Mr Write takes us into the life of Jayden Evans aka J.E.Sparrow a best selling author who needs to move on from a relationship that broke his heart. The inspiration behind most of his books was his wife but the day she cheated on him was the day writers blog set in. Carrie Bell is very different from any woman he has ever met and for the first time in over 6 months he finds himself intrigued and interested in finding out what makes Carrie tick.
This story was full of twists and turns, Jayden wasn’t easy to like but as this story unfolds you get to see the real man behind the best selling author and what can I say about Carrie apart from she is a beautiful person inside and out, a woman who never gives up on herself or others and that makes her the perfect match for Jayden. This book make me laugh it left me smiling like a Cheshire Cat and I really hope we get more stories from the secondary characters in Mr Write.
Mr. Write is Monica James’ new standalone novel. I have read many of Monica’s novels and this one definitely has a different feel to it. More humor. More whiskey. More spontaneous.
Jayden is a romance author who has a mad case of writer’s block ever since he caught his wife cheating. After ten years of marriage. It’s been six months since he walked out of his house. And ever since he did, he has become a Manwhore with a heavy desire for whiskey. That mix has gotten him into big trouble and why he is on a plane to Connecticut from Seattle. And that is when he saw her. The woman who would be his muse. Carrie.
Carrie has her New Year’s resolutions. No men. No sex. No Booze. The last one would be difficult since she on her way to see her crazy ass family for the holidays. And the first two rules would definitely be broken if she saw this man again. Jayden was funny and a good talker but he was also a man like all the others. It’s why she has to walk away. Or so she thought.
Paris. That’s where their story really takes a turn. He needs to write a book and she needs to get away. So, why not go to Paris together? They have known each other for a whole day. What could go wrong?
Aw! I loved this one. It was so much fun, sexy, and emotional. There was even a character that reminding me of a character from Wedding Crashers and it cracked me the fuck up. But really, it also makes you think about happiness, love, and life. It’s also about not being perfect. To be real.
Overall…it’s an adventure. A steamy, funny, and wild adventure with two strangers who saw something in each other from the moment they locked eyes.
Quotes:
“You’ve never been in love?” I can’t believe it. She shakes her head and pulls in her lips.
“Ever?” She raises her shoulders in a feeble shrug.
“What can I say? I’m a hopeless romantic. I’m looking for butterflies, but all I’ve found is indigestion.”
“Dove, careful. Whiskey is like a kiss—best enjoyed slow.”
“I knew you’d shake up my world. I just never anticipated how much so.”
My name is Jayden Evans. I’m a thirty-three-year-old Sagittarius who used to write about the miracle of true love and finding your forever soul mate.
Jayden is a famous romance author who hasn’t had the best of luck in the romance department, he was cheated on by his wife and lost all motivation to write his next best seller. Though things change on a plane ride when he meets art student, Carrie.
Carrie and Jayden end up going on a fun adventure to people watch for Jayden’s next novel. Anyone else think that would be a lot of fun?!? As they observe the ups and downs of relationships, theirs begins to form. Will these two find their own happily ever after?
This isn’t my first book from Monica James and it won’t be my last. I enjoyed every moment of this story from the banter, to Carrie’s crazy family, to the sweetness and the sexiness of the story. Carrie and Jayden’s instant connection and the rollercoaster of the own relationship made me never want this story to end. Though, I couldn’t have asked for a better ending to this story. It was fantastic.
This story is another one of my must reads of 2019!
I enjoyed reading Mr. Write. It is the first book by Monica James that I have read. The storyline was interesting and the book had some fun moments and some crazy ones too!
I had a love/hate for Jayden but I still was hoping he would get his life back on track and find his happily ever with Carrie.
Totally enjoyed this book!
I was smiling, giggling and swooning over this story.
It’s funny, it’s sexy, it’s full of OMG & WTF moments that leave you questioning would you?
Loved all the references & similarities of being an author and what crazy things are witnessed when meeting their fans. It made the book more authentic to us book lovers as well as writers
You will have to read this book to find out what happens to Jayden after he meets Carrie & if Mr. Write can get his writing mojo back
5 popped!
4 stars
I love Monica James books and this one is no different. I was eager to read this one. I wanted a book with less drama and more romantic, but I gotta confess that at the beginning of the book I wasn’t enjoying that much. Not because it wasn’t good, but the story took sometime to actually make the characters interact. But after, maybe 30%, It got a lot better.
I loved the hero and the heroine. It is a story about second chances. Not to a lost lover, but second chances with yourself, ya know. Know yourself, what you love, LOVE yourself to be open to let in someone else in your heart. I started not loving it to finished looking like a cartoon with hearts flyng off my eyes. I looooved Carrie and Jayden time together and I have to say my favorite chapter of this one was the last. I loved how it ended, it looked like that was actually a real story. I want a lover like Jayden! By being narrated only by him, knowing his feelings, I found the perfect man in a book. Now I’m here thinking I want a lover like that… I highly recommend it.
5 Star Review of Mr.Write by Monica James
Monica James is a new author to me and I cannot for the life of me understand why that is.
Jayden Evans aka J.E.Sparrow and Carrie meet by accident on a flight. Despite the fact that Jayden, an author with writer’s block, is trying to get over his soon to be cheating ex-wife Elizabeth, he is drawn to Carrie. Sure he hasn’t been celibate for the past six months, but sadly all he has indulged in are one night stands which meant nothing.
For the first time in over six months, he is intrigued and interested in the elusive Carrie, despite himself. I actually liked Jayden, even though he was a jerk at times but once he and Carrie got together he really turned around and redeemed himself.
There were plenty of twists and turns throughout the story, even if some were a tad predictable and I was absolutely invested in Jayden and Carrie’s story.
I loved how Carrie refused to back down and gave as good as she got; feisty, yet vulnerable and I loved the secondary character of Nick, Jayden’s best friend and agent. Here’s hoping he gets a book of his own and we get to catch up with Jayden and Carrie.
An enjoyable story that had me laughing at times and one I recommend.
This is a story from the Guy’s POV only. Something new for me. Usually if I read something with only one POV then it’s usually from the heroine’s, so this was a change for me.
The story is about a writer who is trying to get his writing groove back after coming home to his wife cheating on him with their pool boy all because she wanted to have a baby ( and pass it off as his) and is certain that something has to be wrong with his sperm rather than entertain the thought that something is wrong with her. Needless to say, he sleeps around trying to find his writing groove in process, but has one rule- no kissing.
He hooks up with a girl who is dead set on being his new forever, but he has no plans for that, especially with her being his publishers daughter.
He is on a plane headed to convince her that, when he meets a girl who he just can’t seem to shake out of his head and who most importantly makes him want to write again.
After certain things revealed, and his “stalker girl” no more- he and “plane girl” head off to Paris to find their inspiration.
They fall for each other, but truths come out in the end but are all sins forgiven?
This was an ok read for me. I love this author, but this book just didn’t work for me. The title, cover and blurb attracted me, but in the end I struggled a bit to finish this one.
It just didn’t capture my attention or interest once I began to read it.
