I’ve been following Jessa York from her first book and I’ve got to say that with each one I get more and more impressed with her writing. Despite being a teacher/student romance and having some angst, Mr. Marshall, Evan, and Holly were perfect together!
I was drawn in by the flow and pace of Jessa’s writing and I was immediately drawn to these characters and their attraction to each other. Holly was resilient and wise beyond her 18 years, she had a lot of responsibilities that she juggled with such dignity. I loved her! Despite the “taboo” theme I found it realistic and intriguing. These two were meant for each other!
Student/Teacher romances are one of my go to tropes to read. There is just something about the forbidden that is so appealing and intriguing. As soon as I heard about this book, I knew I had to read it and it did not disappoint! Holly and Evan are complete opposites, not to mention forbidden to explore their attraction due to their respective positions (student and teacher), yet there is an undeniable attraction between the two that cannot be denied. What ensues, is an intriguing tale of passion, attraction, secrets and a romance that will have your kindle ready to explode. Don’t miss out on this steamy romance! I promise, once you start reading it, you won’t be able to put it down.
YES!!!!! I am so in love with this book! Evan and Holly have such an adorable story! And there is heartbreak, as there always will be with teacher/student romance because its “forbidden” and the wrong person always finds out. But they key to the story is if they can find their way through that heartbreak. You think that Evan and Holly do and they things will be all sunshine and roses and that they will live happily ever after….. but then he has to leave. And then there is some more heartbreak… and I cried. Yep! I cried! While sitting at work reading (we wont talk about how I should have been working….) I had to STOP reading to feel the emotion out and when I could finally dry my eyes I went right back to it. And then cried again. I am not going to tell you how this ends, you are going to have to read it yourself to see what happens…. but I am telling you Jessa York has a way of writing these stories that just suck me right in and do NOT want to let me go, no matter what I am supposed to be doing. Worth every single forbidden star I can give it! Just wonderful!
Evan Marshall is the new substitute English teacher at Holly’s prep school. Young and gorgeous, he’s caught the eye of the female students. But only one has caught his eye, and as hard as he tries to control his desires, it’s only a matter of time before he can no longer hold back. Being involved with his student Holly can go nowhere. When the unimaginable happens, will they be able to find support and comfort one another, or will they decide to go their separate ways?
This was a yummy, taboo read, even though Holly is of legal age. Holly has had to grow up fast, working while going to school on a scholarship and also taking care of her ill, alcoholic mother. Evan has never met anyone who works so hard to take care of others before herself. She’s bright, intelligent, and he wants nothing more than to take care of her. This was a great student/teacher read & I’m looking forward to reading Holly’s friend Paige’s story next!
I really enjoyed this one. A student/teacher romance with them being closer in age is quite different than others I have read in the genre lately. This can be a touchy subject for some but Jessa writes this so it just seems like a natural thing for a man and woman to fall in love even when they should not.
Both having to prove something in life they find that one common thing brings them together, their love of books. When books bring 2 people together what can go wrong??? Well if is a good book then there is always something. You have to read it to find out for yourself.
Mr Marshall’s Method was a refreshing read that kept my interest from the start.
Mr. Marshall’s Method is a brand new release for Jessa York. I’ve been following Jessa since her very first book and with every one, I’m more impressed with her talent as an author. This book pushes all her boundaries as she explores a new genre, forbidden love or student/teacher romance.
Holly Anderson is an eighteen year old senior student at Santa Lena’s Academy, a school for the families with deep pockets. Holly is there under scholarship. She lives in a small trailer with her very non-functional alcoholic mother. Holly has to keep her grades up for the scholarship but I believe she would anyway. She’s a very high achiever and wants to make sure that her future looked nothing like her mother’s. But she is also the only source of income for the two of them. So she works at a diner both before school and after school until late at night. How she handles all of this, I’ll never know.
Evan Marshall is twenty two years old and has a freshly minted education degree from college, much to his father’s chagrin, who had quite different aspirations for his son than being a lowly teacher. One of the teachers at Santa Lena is out due to a heart attack and Evan has been given the job as a long term substitute.
All of the girls noticed the new teacher and kept themselves busy vying for his attention except one, the only one that Evan noticed. He felt an immediate pull to her. She was so different than the other students, very serious, much more mature. He had to keep reminding himself, off limits. She’s his student. But he could only keep his distance for so long.
Holly has never dated. She doesn’t have time. But the connection she feels with Mr. Marshall is something she can’t deny. She feels comfortable with him. He’s easy to talk to. And when he kissed her for the first time under the moonlight, she knew she wanted, no needed more, so much more.
Holly and Evan fall fast but their relationship has to be a secret. They both have so much to lose. But, this is easier said than done. Evan’s family is well known. And they take risks that they shouldn’t. But in both of their hearts, every risk is worth taking for the chance to be together.
This was sweet, steamy and such an enjoyable read. Holly was so strong. She was a true heroine. For an eighteen year old, she was wise beyond her years, having to endure so much. I have to say that Evan seemed really mature for twenty two as well. To me, who might be in the old lady category, twenty two is still a child. Together, these two were perfect. But the timing wasn’t right. Would it ever be? Is the risk too high? Can Holly ever expect more than what she has right now?
There is more to this series to come. The next book will be about Evan’s best friend, Jake Richter and Holly’s friend, Paige in Mr. Richter’s Rules. I can’t wait.
Evan Marshall steals Holly Anderson’s heart
What can I say about this story without giving too much away and help you as a reader buy this book? Well, this genre of professor/student touches on a forbidden love story but they are both of age….if that helps I have to admit I always feel weird when I read these types of stories as I think back on my own high school experiences and I know without a doubt that there are some teachers out there that prey on students much younger but this story is beautiful
Holly is undoubtedly a strong, sassy character who falls for a man who should be off limits to her. But with each interaction with Evan, you know he’s just as head over heels for her. If this is a genre you wouldn’t normally read, honestly you are going to want to read this as it is done gracefully with poise and character. The side characters that are Holly’s friends make her story worth reading and OMG I can’t wait for Paige to get her story…that girl needs to let her hair loose
Thank you Jessa for my advanced copy for which I leave my honest review
Student / Teacher Relationship – But no “ick” Factor Here!!
Holly works to support her mom and their household before and sometimes after school. All while maintaining high grades and working sets while on scholarship at Santa Lena’s Academy for the brightest and the best. When their English teacher is replaced by a young, sexy, handsome Evan and he mistakes Holly for a teacher, the attraction can’t be “undone”.
Friendship, hardship, jealousy and romance build an entertaining story!!
*** I am voluntarily leaving my honest review of this book ***
Mr. Marshall’s Method is a Student/Teacher Forbidden Romance. This book is a hot steamy read you won’t be able to put down. I loved the dynamic between Holly and Mr. Marshall. You go on a rollercoaster ride of emotions throughout this book. I was hooked from the beginning. The bond that was instantly formed between these two just draws you in and doesn’t let go. And the Chemistry, HOT!!! I can’t wait for the next installment when we get Paige’s story.
A student/teacher romance with lots of heat. A great taboo read. Lots of heat and chemistry between 18 year old Holly and her english/drama teacher. Loved it!!
Holy heck! Talk about steamy taboo! Mr. Marshall is every high school girl’s fantasy and even those of us older women.
At Holly’s first interaction with Mr. Marshall, she finds herself on her knees in front of him helping him with (clears throat) a problem. From that moment the chemistry between her and Evan is off the charts. Even as he’s reminding himself that she’s his student, his body refuses to acknowledge such a thing is against the rules. For Holly, she’s got a life full of school, work, and just trying to get by. But when Evan seems to keep turning up just when she needs him, she opens herself up to what may be between them.
”This was hot, heavy, forbidden hunger – we both knew the consequences of our actions if anyone found out.”
This was definitely steamy in the steamiest sense of the word. With a small look at high school life and its wacky friendships interspersed, this is the story of two people who should never have looked at each other in any but a student/teacher sort of way. Holly is eighteen and Evan twenty-two so everything is perfectly legal here if not morally right. And oh my gosh! This couple were perfection together!
I loved that Holly was dedicated to her goals, even if her view of her future was a bit “blank”. She worked hard and took care of her business, was feisty yet sweet, but never found time just for the simple things in life. Evan was the type of hero that knew he should stay away but was unable to do so. The more he gets to know Holly the further he falls. And despite his heart being broken, in the end he does what he knows he must do to ensure a safe and fulfilled future for her. I loved everything about him.
”Year after year the plants struggle against their surroundings to survive. Only the toughest make it through and what’s left brings us the best quality, sweetest fruit possible.”
“Too bad they have to fight so hard.”
“You don’t get it, do you?” he said in a near whisper. “It’s the battle that makes them the best of the best…”
This is a fast read with a great rhythm to it that will have you finished before you realize it. The progression of this relationship was completely organic and never felt stilted or contrived. I absolutely loved the secondary characters, some so over the top you can’t help but laugh at their antics, and others that will have you wanting to smack them upside their heads. The fact that the next book is about two of these characters has me aching for their story ASAP as they have both already captured my heart.
Highly recommending this for those who love taboo student/teacher romances with enough angst to drive the story without overwhelming it.
You have to read this book right now! If you like forbidden romance, you will love this book. Evan has been added to my book boyfriend list. And Holly was perfect for him. They were perfect together. Thus story was so well developed. It flowed perfectly throughout and left a very satisfying ending. I couldn’t put it down. Jessa York is a master at her craft and I can’t wait for more stories from this world.
This is the beginning of a new series by Jessa York about forbidden love, a student/teacher romance.
Holly is 18, in her senior year with a full scholarship at a private high school. She has to work many hours to support herself and her mother, who has many health issues, and still make time for studying when she’s not at school. Evan is 22, filling in for an English teacher on leave. Their attraction was instant but Holly was really kinda oblivious while Evan kept up a mantra in his head, “She’s your student” to convince himself to stay away. Of course they couldn’t stay away and their relationship was really sweet with just a little angst thrown in.
It took me awhile to realize I knew Holly’s previous trailer park neighbour, Jason, and his wife Vivienne from Jessa’s other series, Love in Santa Lena. It was great getting more about them. I loved her friend Alex, he was priceless!
I’m looking forward to the next book in the series, Professor Richter’s Rules, after being introduced to Paige and Jake in this book.
4.25 Stars!
I just love the way Jessa York tackles a story. Even when she’s writing a taboo student/ teacher romance there is a sort of playfulness to her writing style. While I may be biting my nails, clutching my chest, or holding my breath through a fair number of scenes, I’m also grinning like a loon, laughing, smiling, and swooning through so many others. Even this taboo forbidden love story still had a light-hearted and easy to read feel.
When new teacher and twenty-two year old Evan Marshall took the temporary teaching position at Santa Lena High, he was grateful for the opportunity to mold and shape young minds, he never imagined that a senior student named Holly Anderson would end up being the only thing on his mind after their chance encounter in the drama room. “I think I’m in trouble, Holly,” he said between kisses. I didn’t answer him because I agreed that we were both definitely in trouble.”
Eighteen year old Holly was not your average teen-age girl; quite frankly the circumstances of her life did not allow her to be. Caring for her mother, and working at a diner before school each day, didn’t leave her much time for goofing off the way most of the other more fortunate students of Santa Lena High were privileged enough to do. Even at the tender age of eighteen, she had grown up responsibilities and a scholarship that demanded she excel academically. She loved the arts, and worked on the set of the drama productions. When Mr. Marshall is assigned the task of taking over directing Romeo & Juliet, he and Holly spend a great deal of time together, initially both trying to deny their intense connection. However; some risks prove that they are too powerful to ignore.
I have to say, this book was different from some other student/ teacher relationship romances that I’ve read because there was not the added element of a large age gap to try to come to terms with. With just 4 years between them, the only real adversity that existed between the two was the employment status and the parental expectations that Evan felt from his parents. Evan proved to be the type of man that was more than deserving of a girl like Holly. He loved her, and other than getting involved with her when she was a student, he always put her interests first. He took on any negativity that came their way, and didn’t make apologies to anyone for how he felt about her. I loved his backbone and his protective nature! I honestly thought Evan was quite the catch and I LOVED how Jessa balanced the typical teenage shenanigans and immaturity that comes with high school and friendships, with the wise beyond her years traits attributed to Holly.
I’m SO excited for the rest of this series. Next up, we’ll see the love story between Evan’s best friend, Jake Richter and Holly’s friend, Paige play out in Mr. Richter’s Rules. This one is gonna sizzle, I can feel it!! I hope that Evan gets to rib and lay into Jake the way that Jake did to him. I love guy banter!!
Thank you for another captivating storyline Jessa!
Jessa has slayed once again! oh my my my! This book is hot steamy and forbidden! Holly has always taken care of her mother but one day she meets Evan and it was time to get her life back! But does everyone agree!
Wow! This book was like a breath of fresh air. There was drama and the need to keep things quiet, since it’s the story of a high school substitute teacher, Evan, and his student, Holly. It was fun how the met and then their relationship progressed slowly. Her life was complicated, but she is a strong, intelligent woman who can take care of herself and her mother. She is a good person, and so is he. He is out of the picture for a while, she is left alone, but still has friends, goes through different situations and ends up reuniting with him. They are a beautiful couple that stole my heart and deserved their HEA.
This is first book in this serie and honestly I cannot wait read more.I am not usually into teacher/student but this was so good!!Forbidden fruit is always tempting. Mr Marshall aka Evan and Holly are so different but yet so perfect to each other.Evan tries stay away Holly and see her just a one student.Attraction is so powerfull that I can feel it and I cannot stop reading.Holly works a lot and study as much, she cannot belive that her teacher is interested about her. This is amazing love story.I was scared cliffhanger because waiting to read next book is killing me.I recommend this everyone.Age gap isn’t too big if someone think that when they ase words teacher/student romance.thank you Jessa York for this amazing book.thank you for this experience .
Mr. Marshall’s Method by Jessa York is a contemporary, new adult, student/teacher, forbidden romance told in first person, dual POV.
Eighteen-year-old, Holly Anderson, is a senior on scholarship at Santa Lena’s Academy, an elite high school for wealthy families. She’s a good student with a difficult home life who works before and after school to financially support her household.
Twenty-two-year-old, Evan Marshall, is filling in as a substitute teacher at the academy while one of the teachers is out recovering from a heart attack. He’s immediately attracted to Holly and quickly learns that she’s one of his students which means she’s off-limits. But the attraction is mutual and they both have difficulty resisting its pull.
Can they resist each other until Holly graduates? Can they get away with engaging in a secret relationship? What will happen to Evan if they are exposed? Will he lose his job? Could Holly lose her scholarship?
I enjoyed Holly and Evan’s story. The characters are likeable and well-developed including the secondary characters. If you’ve ever been “hot for teacher” then this story is for you. A fun, emotional, super-steamy, taboo read.
*** I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC. ***
This is a great book in a new series. I wasn’t sure how Jessa York would handle the taboo trope of teacher/student but she did an excellent job. Evan is a new teacher at the elite school that Holly goes to and their chemistry was off the charts when they first meet and he believes she is another staff member. He is disappointed she’s a student but they keep spending time together when he works on the school play. Holly is someone who is very bright, is at the school on a scholarship but also works before & after school because her home life isn’t great. Evan is also going through family issues because his father is upset that he chose to go into the education field instead of law school. I liked how they both handled things in a mature way. I also loved Holly’s close friends at the school. I can’t wait for the next book in the series!
This book was really good. I read this book in one sitting. It was that good, the story just flowed. The characters had great chemistry. I wish I had a Mr Marshall.
