Very well-written twist on the Jane Austen original. Loved it.
Realizing of course, that this is NOT a Pride and Prejudice retelling, you need to get over the original P&P where Elizabeth doesn’t care for horses. Once you accept that fact, the story is entertaining.
I enjoyed the continuation of these beloved characters. Well written in Jane Austen style. I hope to continue with subsequent books.
An original twist to the average P&P variation; however, most of the characters are one dimensional. An easy read when a quick Elizabeth and Darcy fix is required.
Awesome read
Excellent plot and loved that this author could hold my interest and didn’t want to put the book down. Loved it.
Loved continuing Darcy & Elizabeth’s love story!
The characters were so vastly different, I can’t see why the author bothered to use the original character names. It might have worked as a stand alone romance novel with different character names. As an AU of P&P, it just didn’t work for me. I think if I’m going to appreciate an AU of an existing story, it has to retain something of the original than just the names.
Enjoyed this twist
A cute story
This is an interesting twist of the original.
Liked what the author did with the familiar Lizzy/Darcy story.
A very interesting rewrite of the original Pride and Prejudice, I found it very entertaining as P & P is my favorite book.
This book was okay. I didn’t really connect with Elizabeth’s character, she was more prone to tears in this variation than I have ever pictured her to be. I love reading the P&P variations and don’t expect them to cast the characters as Jane Austen did. I’ve read some pretty far fetched renditions, including one where Darcy’s family curse was that the men transformed into cats, yet I was still able to connect the characters to the original better than in this particular version. Perhaps I will read it again one day and feel differently…
A recreation of Jane Austen’s classic that differs greatly from the original, yet is a wonderfully entertaining and evocative story. Miss Elizabeth’s character is vibrant and uninhibited, determined to not allow the restrictions of society keep her from pursuing independent means of securing her family’s future. (Although I wondered if women would truly be allowed to race horses in her time.) This version gives us a deeper glimpse into the characters and some surprising twists in the plot. No spoilers here! If you are not offended by an author taking liberties with the original story then get a copy and lose yourself in another time and place with the Bennets, Darcys, Fitzwilliams and Bingleys.
A
As an Austen-phile, I’m pretty picky about my Darcy and Elizabeth’s, but I was very pleased with their characterization here. It’s always intimidating to borrow such well-loved literary figures, and Mr. Darcy’s Debt picks up the mantle with reverence. Exploring a parallel timeline where where Mr. Bennet knew Darcy’s mother, we see an alternate Elizabeth who rides comletitively as much as walks. And a Mrs. Bennet who gracefully tries to take her daughters in hand after the (spoiler!) death of her husband. Well worth the time spent, it’s a great read for any Austen fan.
Recommended. Enjoyed reading.
Thoroughly enjoyed this book!
An interesting change of events and characters. Predictable, yet not. If you think you know what will happen, you might be wrong.
A lovely period read.
