This book was a great alternate to the original story. I cound not put it down once I started. It wa very entertaining. I definetly enjoyed this read.
Several plausible re-tellings of the prequel or sequel to Pride and Prejudice have been written. This one is another in that genre. It is believable and light. Those who life Jane Austen would probably like this too.
This book left me wishing for more ??
Elizabeth has been offered marriage by Mr Collins. Mr Bennet is in bad health so Elizabeth feels that she must marry Mr Collins for the sake of her family. Jane is still hoping Mr Bingley will offer for her but he has gone back to London.
I loved it! This is the first Elizabeth and Darcy rewrite that I have read and I loved it!
I always enjoy a P & P alternative story, and this one was pretty good. I’m especially intrigued that this author has written half a dozen such alternates, giving me a source for future indulgences in this genre. True to the original characters, things all basically end up in a manner similar to Austen’s plots–except that Collins is even more despicable. If you can’t stand that thought, don’t read this book. 😉
I enjoy reading take offs on Jane Austen which generally are fun to read as is this one. It is hard to beat Elizabeth Bennett and Fitzwilliam Darcy.
Need more like this. Charming and humorous
I love everything Pride and Prejudice!!
** spoiler alert ** Uhmmm, well it was okay. I like a good fan fiction “what if” and this was interesting because Lizzy accepts Mr. Collins proposal so you have to suffer through the thought of what if this wedding actually occurs.
I didn’t really feel Lizzy falling for Darcy but whatever.
I don’t know that either Lizzy or Darcy really would have done or said some of what they did in this book. I mean really, Darcy fantasizing multiple times of taking Lizzy to bed? And would he really compromise Lizzy and then fess up to it to insure she’d marry him? And tongue action kisses…. I’m sure Austen would not approve of writing such things of her characters. I don’t think that Darcy would announce an engagement for the shock factor either but in this case I loved that he did. It was rather comical.
Language: Darcy thinks “Damnation” a lot. Taking Lord’s name in vain.
Violence: Darcy pops Mr. Collins in the nose for kissing Lizzy against her will.
Sex: Mostly sexual tension and Darcy visualizing Lizzy in bed. Tongue action kisses.
This is an enjoyable read, with well-developed characters, enough plot twists to keep it interesting, and the cultural aspects are nicely researched.
