I should have never asked him out. But don’t judge me. It was a dare.He looked hot at the nightclub, even though he stuck out like a sore thumb in a perfectly tailored suit. Long story short – He said no when I asked him out. Well, screw you, Mr. Big Shot. That turned us from strangers to enemies pretty quickly. And then… I applied for a new job. It was a secretarial position.Nothing fancy. And … new job.
It was a secretarial position.
Nothing fancy.
And definitely not at a firm that he owned.
Of course, I forgot that Mr. Big Shot does, in fact, own half of Las Vegas.
So, now here I am…
Standing in front of my worst enemy with a resumé in hand.
He gives me a smirk and checks me out.
And his next words will determine my fate.

Karina and Zane met through friends. She was new to Vegas and they dragged her out to a club. He was a workaholic whose brother Brenden dragged him out to the club to meet up with the same friends. Suffice it to say , Karina and Zane didn’t want to be there. But when they got an eyeful of each other, that attitude changed. .. Until Karina woke up the next morning and saw Zane in her bed and she freaked and LEFT THE BUILDING!! Who does that?? Zane teases her mercilessly the next time he sees her. And frankly, why not? Karina has been applying to several jobs daily and her responses have been negative until she gets an interview!! Imagine her surprise when she walks in the door! An enjoyable story.

The Hope of Love That Chases Away the Shadows and Pains of the Past
No one’s life is without the shadows of pain, disappointment and broken dreams. It is the response of the individual to the darkness of life that determines whether the future is one of living or merely existing. In JP Comeau’s newest romance, Mr. Big Shot, the author brings together two bruised hearts who are trying to move forward to live life, and not simply exist.
Karina Rosehill is beloved by her family and her friends. She brings joy to those around her, but her life has not been without shadows—she still grieves the broken promises of a young love who did not honor their plans for the future, and of friends whose paths have diverged. She has also experienced disappointment and grief when the company for whom she has worked diligently as the Head of Human Resources, an employee who went above and beyond the expectations of the job, is now unemployed because the company did not work as strategically as its employees. And, not able to compete with the changing technology, the manufacturer failed, leaving Karina and many others, jobless. So, she hurt and betrayed by the failed company, she leaves the city and family she loves to find employment. But, she is resilient. She packs her bags and moves from the sights, smells and scenes of San Francisco which she loves, to become a resident of the dry deserts of Nevada, to Henderson, just miles from the Vegas Strip. She is saddened at parting from family and home, but she is determined to succeed and to enjoy the renewed friendship with Kelly and Roxy, friends from home who encouraged the relocation.
Zane Hearthstone is a man of power and wealth. He has grown up in the home of a successful businessman and knows personally the price of success and its impact on familial relationships. With his younger brother Brenden, he has founded a successful real estate company, charting a pathway outside of their father’s financial enterprises. And, he has found personal happiness with his love, his fiancé, Lindsey, until that love was snatched away in by a drunk driver. What made her death even more intolerable to Zane was that he survived the accident physically whole, but emotionally scarred, foolishly blaming himself that he lived awhile is love had died instantly. And now, a demanding boss who runs through secretaries, he once more needs a new one—one not chosen by Brenden with an eye to physical attributes more than office skills—rather one who has a work ethic and a brain. Surprisingly, he agrees to accompany his brother to a club to meet up with fellow Stanford graduates, Kelly and Roxy who bring Karina, their friend from high school and new Nevada resident. And the attraction between Zane and Karina is strong and sexual. But when by chance, the job recruiter tasked with filling the newly opened secretarial position, sends Karina to interview for position at Hearthstone Real Estate, both Zane and Karina must decide if they can work as boss and employee after their night together.
JP Comeau’s sweet story of redemptive and healing a love is well-paced with moments of life’s challenges and even risks balanced with the growing trust and love of the two central characters, offering both tension and satisfaction for the reader.

One night stand to all sorts of things
Mr. Big Shot is the first book in the Kinda Cocky series and boy is it a lot of fun to read. The relationship between Karina and Zane goes through a number of different phases but ends up with a great ending and HEA. The story-line is entertaining but also takes a number of twists where I wanted to kick both characters in the butt. I did like the book and look forward to reading the next in the series.
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review. My opinions are all my own.
After dealing with a no good ex and starting over with a new job it’s hard to know what to do first… heal from a years long relationship or figure out how to get a new job. Sometimes it’s best to start fresh and that is what Karina did! New town, old friends and a new place all make up for a brand new slate to write the next chapter in her book but before I start writing … did someone say drinks??? Why not!
The meaning of love doesn’t mean the same as it did in my parents time. To love with your whole heart and soul is the greatest feeling until your left with a hole in your chest and a life filled with business deals, paper work and more business deals. Zane is a solid man and everything that entails… so what do you do when you when your heart and your mind are waring against each other???
It was supposed to be fun yet it was so much more. Is Karina ready… or Zane? It’s not easy when you have to do the work to get your heart and your mind on the same page. Although when we think of the word pain we understand that it can be something that makes us uncomfortable and to feel hurt but there are various types of pain. There is the pain of a divorce, the pain of a break up and then there is the pain from a paper cut… all though the types of pain are all different there is still that work that needs to be done whether it’s from therapy, some Neosporin or just hanging out with friends you have to do the work to get your life back and embracing all of the joys it has for you!
