While I’d read and enjoyed another novel in this series, this one was frustrating.
Carol, our protagonist, is nosy but unreliable in general. her relationship with her husband is a cliche; he is the Big Man, and she allows him to dictate most aspects of their lives- and “asserts herself” by buying stuff in a classic “little woman” pattern of passive-aggressiveness. Her friends are cardboard cut-outs.
Santangelo tries to update this by throwing in a few bald facts about domestic violence that pretty much anyone who cares knows at this point, even in 2011 when it was printed. Carol is aghast at only one tale of such things, which was on the face of it pretty mild; this is NOT a service to domestic violence survivors. I suppose her heart was in the right place.
As usual in such books, the cops are reactive idiots, in desperate need of a memory-impaired busybody to solve the crime for them.
I found the whole thing grating in any number of ways.
A wonderful heroine, Carol is amusingly snarky in her head (like many of us!), but honestly cares about her husband and friends. A quick and entertaining read!
Fun, lighthearted and a great little mystery. I laughed out loud more than once.
All of the “- Can Be Murder” books have been fun reads!! I’ve read five!!
Being married for 53 years, I can relate to this couple,
It’s nice to have an “oldster ” as the heroine of the story, basically mind candy but fun.
Love the Baby Boomer series!
When Carol and Jim Andrews decide to downsize and sell their house they never expect to get involved in a murder. Carol returns to the house one last time to say goodbye and trips over the body of the person who is buying the house. She and her friends decide to do some sleuthing to find who killed him because they feel the police are looking at all the wrong suspects.
Easy to read and entertaining.
Part of a great cozy mystery series. Some of the conversations in the book were laugh out loud. Very entertaining.
Fun cozy mystery!
This book was ok.
These books are fun reads, will read more from this author
I enjoyed it immensely.
I tried a couple of times to read it and just could not manage to get into the story or feel anything for the characters. Finally just gave up.
I would give this series more stars if I could — maybe because the characters are in my “advanced” age bracket makes the story so realistic — and FUNNY. I’d read these forever
slow start but improved as I went. I would read more from this author
The internal dialogue of the main character was quite boring. I couldn’t get through the book
Good read, but a little slow.
I haven’t met a cozy mystery I haven’t loved and this is no exception!
