If you liked Bridgewater County, you don’t want to miss this hot new series full of wild mountain men!
We want Kit Lancaster. We’ve wanted her for years. Both of us. Me and Donovan. It might not be normal for two guys to claim a woman together, but we live in Cutthroat, Montana and we’ll do what we want. And what we want to do is Kit.What could get in the way? Oh yeah, a little thing called … in the way? Oh yeah, a little thing called murder. And since I’m the lead detective and Donovan’s the prosecutor, it might not be the smartest thing to bed the prime suspect.
As if that would stop us.

As a fan of Vanessa Vale’s previous work I have to give it to her, the overall concept for this book was very fantastic and original. The lead detective and prosecutor falling for the main murder suspect is great but add in the fact that they have all been in love with each other since they were kids makes for one hell of a book. This story starts you out right in the middle of the action and doesn’t let up until the end. Vale has become my go to for a good quick steamy read. This one was a good start to a new series. Although I have to say it isn’t my favorite series she has done I still enjoyed reading this story. The book itself is not a cliffhanger. It just leaves some secrets out there (hopefully to be solved later on in the series).
An emotional, hot & spicy MFM second chance romance.
Kit was finally back in Cutthroat, Montana working at a job she really enjoyed but avoiding the two men, Nix and Donovan, she really cared about. But when she wakes up and finds her friend-business partner-roommate dead in the living room, she comes face to face with Nix in his job as a police officer and Donovan as the prosecutor. They both know she’s innocent but they have to prove it. And find out why she ran away from them in the first place.
I couldn’t believe how quickly I got pulled into this story or how emotional it made me. I really enjoyed reading about this triad.
This is the first book in the Wild Mountain Men series and although it ends with a happily ever after, it does end on a bit of a cliffhanger.

Mountain Darkness, book one of Vanessa Vale’s new Wild Mountain Men series definitely had a darker vibe than her typical books . . . and I loved it!
There is a murderer on the loose in the small town of Cutthroat. And, both the Assistant District Attorney and one of only two detectives on the police force are in love with one of the main suspects. Now it’s a race to find a way to both solve the case and keep their woman safe without being called for tampering with the evidence or the suspect.
I really enjoyed the darker vibe to this book as well as the dynamics between not only the lead characters by the side ones as well.
Both Nix and Donavan have known that Kit was the one for them for years, but a misunderstanding had her fleeing town over a year ago. Now, they realize she’s back when they are called to the house she is staying at after she finds her friend and business partner murdered. I loved watching these men claim the very gunshy Kit. I also loved learning her back story, which adds so much to this tale. These three are hot as can be together, and it’s a lot of fun watching the work towards their happy ever after.
Vanessa Vale also leaves readers with a shocking twist, making me very anxious to get back to Cutthroat to see what happens next! 4 stars.
I really liked reading the story – it’s hot and steamy.
It also starts with some tension.
But I would have prefered to make it a bit harder for the 3 to get together. Would have been more interesting for me.
While I prefer this authors PNR work and her cowboy romances, I was interested enough in the premise of this to give it a go. It’s a bit scattered plot wise but the steam and the writing is enough to give it a decent rating.
This ménage romance is book one in a series. It is written in first person from multiple POV.
Nix is the gruff detective. His best friend Donovan is the sunny, fun guy who happens to be an attorney in the DA’s office. Kit is the girl from the wrong side of the tracks that they always wanted. She is also the roommate of a girl that turns up murdered, making her a prime suspect.
I love the heat, and the protectiveness the guys have for Kit. I appreciate Kit’s insecurities. I love how resilient she is in the face of outright meanness from some members of their small town of Cutthroat, Montana. The author delivers a smoking hot romance between the men and Kit as I expected after reading the Bridgewater series. What I did not expect, was to be sucked into a murder mystery. I ended up binging the whole series.
I loved the plot, the passion, and the characters. There are a few errors that should have been caught in proofreading. They were a little frustrating, but did not take away from the enjoyment of the book. The whole series was a fun and fast read.

Mountain Darkness by Vanessa Vale – It’s a murder mystery in a small town, and just when it looks like the case is all wrapped up. DRAMA! Apparently, everyone in town has crappy parents, so it’s no wonder their kids are setting the gossip mill wagging. Erin may be dead, but she is still caught up in some wild intrigue. Her business partner and roommate Kit slept through her murder, and now the town thinks she had a hand in it. Good thing a detective and a lawyer have been in love with her for half her life! Enjoy the circus! Happy Reading!
I loved this story! Kit left a year ago because she thought that Nix and Donovan were gay. She left without a word, but now she’s back in Cutthroat. She’s living and working with her best friend, Erin. She wakes to find Erin has been murdered and she is the prime suspect. Nix and Donovan confront Kit on why she left and assure her that they had been discussing how they were going to tell her their feelings for her that night. Now they are together, but she’s afraid they’ll lose their jobs because of her. Wanted to see a proper proposal, wedding, honeymoon and a pregnancy announcement. I’d love to read another whole book with this trio!!
A return to hometown is never easy and neither is being born from the wrong side of the tracks. A murdered boss, friends in the police department and DA office, and sleeping just down from the murder scene. Life is complicated but definitely page turning worthy. This is a good story (hot romance, who done it) but there is a cliffhanger (yep, another book to help solve the mystery). In the meantime, enjoy!

Multiple book story
This book was well written, and full of a lot of steamy scenes between the 3 main characters. Outside of that, well it was full of many unnecessary contradictions on the part of Kit. While it created drama, it wasn’t quite necessary. The end came quick and without conclusion to the central plot of who killed Erin Mills. Upon researching the next books in the series, it seems that the answer to that question isn’t resolved until the final book in the series.
While the book was entertaining, not so much to continue with the series and paying $12 for the privilege of finding out who the murderer was. I think I have an idea and might change my mind later and buy the last book to find out.
While I didn’t pay anything for this book, I can say it was well worth my time and $$.
great read
I love anything by Vanessa Vale!
