Hagen is focused on one thing and one thing only.
Building his family’s businesses. Bringing jobs and money to their tiny corner of the Appalachian mountains.
It’s money the people around him need. Money that could feed families and change lives.
That’s why he agreed to let a camera crew in. To attract the tourist traffic he needs.
But a fire-haired camerawoman with a backbone of steel threatens his plans. His future.
His sanity.
Rhea is the one thing he never wanted to see in Greenlea.
She might also be the one thing he never wants to let go.
Mountain Calling was previously published as Hagen, book 1 in the BIG series.***

Thoroughly enjoyed this first book of the Big Series.
Loving the paranormal edge to this one.
Hagen or big and scary as he’s known, is a tough nut to crack.
Rhea is one tough cookie and when she butts heads with Hagen, she makes sure he knows she’s not backing down.
This is jammed packed with intrigue and adventure, loved the storyline and the settings it’s given us of what’s to come, included the characters.
Stewart was a blast, he made me laugh. Will be interesting to see what comes of Magni story.
It’s a well known fact that I love PNR. I REALLY love Shifter books. I’ve loved them before #teamjacob.
I also have an obsession with Big Foot/Sasquatch. My Father brought it on. I was telling him that I finally found a big foot book on Face Time. He gets a massive grin and yells at my mom, ‘Did you hear? Rose found a naughty Sasquatch book’! He was so proud of it. Hahahahaha
Needless to say, I loved it!
I love me a growly Alpha Male who a bit broken, but has selfless intentions. I also love me a strong female who can growl just a loudly, if not more than the growly male. She can see through all his bark, and accepts him, all of him.
There were a few scenes that needed just a pinch clarification or added details. However, it didn’t stop me from devouring this book. As soon as I have more book money, I’ll be getting the rest of this series.
I cant wait to see where it takes us with the rest of the family. AND I hear there is another one coming but on the West Coast!!!!!!
One thing I really enjoyed was Janice’s take on the shifters origin story. I never would have thought of it. And what make is so cool, is I can totally see if being a possibility.
And just a little side fact…. I’m totally wearing my Big Foot hoodie while I’m writing this.
This is my very first shifter type read and I am so glad it was because I absolutely love the Bigfoot kind of shifters, it made it so interesting. This story is about Hagen who is a Bigfoot type shifter like his dad was, his uncle, and his brother. I loved the family dynamic and the closeness they had especially their mom because she just wanted them to all be happy and married. The fun thing about the family is they run a Bigfoot hunting expedition as a business so they take hikers out to look for Bigfoot sightings. One of Hagen’s moms friend has visions and had a vision that Hagen’s one true mate would come to him and have red hair, he disbelieves it and rolls his eyes every time his mom sees a redhead and flips out. One day Rhea comes to town filming a Bigfoot expedition for a youtube channel by a guy named Chauncey, Hagen sees how beautiful she is and notices she has red hair. Rhea is a fun character that is tough, strong willed, ad has her own set of abilites. I loved Hagen and Rhea together they were perfect and of course Rhea kept trying to fight the attraction but once Hagen claimed her that was it she stood no chance. This was a great read and I enjoyed it a lot.
This, and the other books in this series, Big, are excellent. I started by reading the first one from my library, but they didn’t have the rest of the series available digitally, so I ended up buying the rest for my Nook because I didn’t want the story to end and wanted to see how the other characters resolved their issues. Only concern was that the author chose to omit commas in some places, causing some confusion in a sentence’s meaning, and interrupting my immersion in the story. Still, great work, Ms Whiteaker!
Love Love Love This series is awesome . The characters are like people you would be friends with. They are Strong, witty and full of life but have there issues to over come.
Hagen (Big Book 1)
By Janice M. Whiteaker
Hagen is book one in the Big book series. Janice M. Whiteaker is/was an unknown author for me, and as such I had not idea what to expect from her work. But I have to say it was a very nice read. I didn’t find this book was slow in places, although that is my personal opinion. If you enjoy books that cover paranormal romance then Hagen is the book you should be reading, if you don’t get pulled into the story I would want to know why. In Hagen we meet up with Rhea and of course Hagen. Poor Hagen thinks he will never find love and happiness then along comes Rhea, Rhea herself has had nothing but bad luck when in relationships. Rhea and Hagan take us on what I would say is a wonderful journey. As you would guess this book has paranormal romance and some twists and turns that will have you eager to get to the next page or chapter to see what is happening. So, come along on Rhea and Hagen’s journey and enjoy the book. Thank you, for a great read Janice.
Hagen by Janice Whiteker is a paranormal romance story. This is the first story I have read by this author and I will continue to read her stories. She has an awesome eye for detail. Her characters are fully developed, and you will be on a roller coaster ride with the characters. Janice writes her characters in such a way that there is a connection and you feel what the character is feeling. Hagen feels like there is a curse that has taken away his “normal” life. This leaves him bitter and alone. Rhea is traveling and is trying to make a name for herself. She is trying to get real evidence that Bigfoot is real and to catch him on film. Will Rhea find out who is “Bigfoot”? Will there be a relationship between Rhea and Hagen?
Hagen is the first book in Janice M. Whiteaker’s new series called Big. It is the first book I have read by this writer and I am absolutely enchanted and I will be reading more of her work! This is a paranormal romance story that takes inspiration from the Bigfoot legend and Viking history – what a cool fusion!
The story takes place in the Appalachian Mountains where the camera operator Rhea has come to so that she can make a documentary about Bigfoot with an Internet celebrity. But Rhea has a secret that she has shared apart from her family (who do not understand it and ignore it) with her best friend only … In the mountains she meets Hagen!!! who feels that he is cursed and that the fate has robbed him of a normal life (who wants a normal life anyway!!!) … when they meet Rhea realizes immediately that Hagen is the one man who has the power to break her and the more time she spends with him (he is the guide taking the crew out to the wilderness), the more she gets intrigued and the more she wants to figure him out … and it is the same for Hagen … and then, there is a prophecy … a major one, that Hagen does not want to believe in and tries to ignore but nothing is simple in this world that the writer has masterfully created for us!
A part from Hagen and Rhea there is a number of other great characters and I know already now that quite a few of them are going to get their own stories and I cannot wait to read them! Please keep going Ms Whiteaker, we will never get enough of your magical stories!
I give 5 stars to Hagen (Big Book 1) written by Janice M. Whiteaker.
What a great paranormal romance filled read with shapeshifters, this is one of the books you can never predicted the next chapter or what’s going to happen next. This was a first read for myself from this author but it definitely won’t be the last, I was kept on the edge of my seat throughout the whole book.
Rhea is a photographer, she love’s to catch the unseen or unpredictable on camera, but when her boss sends her on a mission into the woods she’s not really sure what she’s going to see or catch on camera. But things are never as them seem to be.
Hagen is a cursed man and that how he lives his life than is until he meets Rhea, now he’s starting to miss what he has lost in life being the Beast. But at what cost.

My first book by this author and I loved it!! Completely different than anything I’ve ever read being that it takes something I grew up always hearing about and mixing that with some special capabilities and some broken people that just don’t believe they will ever have that happy ever after and so much more, you get a story that makes you believe anything is possible!
When I first looked at the page count I thought oh my this is going to take me a couple days to read and I actually read it in about 5 hours with very few breaks because I couldn’t put it down. The writing style was right up my alley and the flow was perfect. I loved Hagen and Rhea and all of the secondary characters that made up the whole of this story, and I want to visit Greenlea, West Virginia, and I want to stay in Gails B&B. I just simply loved everything about this story.
I went immediately to this authors page to see when Book 2 would be out and Oh My it is Magni’s book and it centers around him and Christine and I can not wait to dig into that one and I’m hoping that somewhere along the way Jerrik will get his own story as well.
This was an awesome start to a new series and I will be back for all of the rest of the Big books and will also check out everything else this author has available.
Loved It!!

I absolutely LOVED this book!! I’ve read quite a few paranormal romance stories now and I have to say this is probably one of the best. I wasn’t quite sure what to expect going into this book, the blurb intrigued me and I loved the front cover – I was not disappointed at all! It actually had everything I love in a book, it made me laugh, it made me swoon, it was sexy and it had amazing characters!
I’ve not read anything by this author before but I definitely will be again. I loved her writing style, the book was so easy to read and I found that I was completely sucked in to the story from the very first chapter. The characters that she had developed were well thought out and I just loved them all. Her descriptive language enabled to imagine exactly where the story was taking place and what was happening.
I loved Rhea, I thought she was such a great female lead. She made me laugh so many times; it felt like I was reading about a friend. I loved her relationship with her friends. The one moment that I really loved in this book was that first meeting between Rhea and Hagen, I could just feel something between them, and something that I had a feeling was going to be good!
I loved reading Rhea and Hagen’s story and I cannot wait for the next book!
Hagen (Big Book 1) by Janice M. Whiteaker is a paranormal romance. I have not read anything from this author before and really enjoyed this great start to the series which is not only captivating but is also a compelling read. The story has everything needed to make it good, it is full of drama and humour with characters you will enjoy and connect to. You will never look at the myth that is Bigfoot in the same way again after reading this. Janice has written a book that will keep you intrigued right to the end and you are so engrossed in the story that it is over before you know it.
I look forward to reading more of this series and more by this author.
This is almost a retelling of Beauty and The Beast with a twist. Instead of being locked in a castle in isolation, Hagen lives with his family in a mountain town that people flock to because of rumors. Rhea doesn’t need to “save” the best, she just needs to understand her purpose and gift.
This story kept me interested through to the end. I did skim a bit because while it was a wee bit obvious what was going on, I wanted to KNOW. This is a long story full of descriptive text. There are a lot of interesting secondary characters and I want to know more about Hagen’s family.
A side note: There is a Norwegian Naval Officer named Lasse Matberg who would absolutely star in this series if it was made into a movie. Mmm hmm
Overall, this story has good depth and weight and I would recommend it.

Hagen(Big Book 1) by Janice Whiteaker is the first book in her Big Series. This is my first book by this author and most certainly will not be my last. This is a paranormal romance that will grab you from the start and keep you till the end. I had a hard time putting it down once I started reading. Get ready for a emotional rollercoaster ride with a few twists and turns. This story is about Hagen and he thinks he’s been cursed by the beast that he is.He likes to act like its no biggie buth the truth is its taken his happiness. Rhea comes into the picture and he can’t shake it.She has a sensitivity that keeps her from getting close to people. Its been so bad shes lost friendship and even jobs. She’s there to hunt a beast that doesn’t even exist and she finds herself not caring. What happens when they find each other?Hagen makes her want to break the rules while she makes him want something he shouldn’t have .Find out what happens with these two. I highly recommend reading this Book. I can’t wait to read more from this author.
