A strong-willed woman, a heart-weary deputy, and a cozy mountain cabin. What could possibly go wrong… or right?
For Aelissm Davis, Northstar has always been home. She hoped she’d return someday, but not like this—exhausted by fast-paced city life and shadowed by an obsessive friend. Stubborn and independent, Aelissm likes to handle her own problems, but with Adam Winters, she may be in over her … over her head. It’s time to swallow her pride and call in reinforcements. Her meddling uncle’s solution—send his best deputy to Montana to protect her—makes Aelissm think he has more on his mind than her safety. The last thing she needs is another complication, and with those sad eyes and a gentle heart, Deputy Pat O’Neil is definitely that. Still, there’s something irresistible about the haunted man, and as her focus shifts from avoiding Adam to helping Pat overcome his demons, a different kind of problem arises. When his “vacation” is over, will she be able to convince him to stay?

This book is a little slow in places but the Characters are interesting and you can feel the emotion between them, Northstar is a relaxed place and maybe the story reflects that. I liked that the Pat and Aelissam didn’t fall into a relationship straight off but became friends first. I look forward to more in this series to see how life turns out …
I loved Suzie O’Connell’s portrayal of the damaged detective and the frightened mountain girl. Pat and Aelissm are anything but your typical characters in this delightful story, offset by a backdrop of Montana scenery so gorgeous it made me want to move to Northstar, except that I hate the cold. The warmth and companionship among the people of the …

Great book. Love this author
Great author
Totally did not expect the book to end the way it did. Very surprised. Realistic characters facing difficulties in life with a sense of independence and courage. Not difficult to read but hard to put it down.
Such deep and wonderful characters. Different storyline. Twisted aspects to some of the character’s past experiences that bring different elements and layers to the story. Very well written. Kept me intrigued!
description of scenery was very interesting.
Wow! The story started slow and I wasn’t sure I was going to like it. But, I’ll be, somehow, somewhere, along the story line, Ms O’Connell’s writing, had me sucked right in to Pat and Aeli’s journey, of dealing with deep hurts, and scared memories, trying to get back to the good, lighted hearted, loving and caring people they were at their core. …
