Motorhomes, Maps, & MurderBook FiveA Camper & Criminals Cozy Mystery SeriesYou don’t want to miss out on book 5 of this hilarious and very popular cozy mystery series from USA Today Bestselling Author Tonya Kappes. Welcome to Normal, Kentucky, where nothing is . . . NORMAL!Mae West, owner of Happy Trails Campground, never thought she would become an actress like her namesake. Calling … actress like her namesake. Calling herself an actress might be far stretch as she plays a minor role in the local Civil War reenactment BATTLE AT CAMP WILDCAT.
When the reenactment doesn’t go as planned, not one but two of the town’s folks aren’t playing dead. . .they were MURDERED!
Come to find out there was a prison break and the serial killer is believed to be in Normal and someone has stolen a motorhome from Happy Trails Campground.
Are these connected?
Mae lets boyfriend and hunky detective, Hank Sharp, follow all the leads about the murders and on the trail of the serial killer because she’s got bigger s’mores in the fire.
The motorhome owners have filed a lawsuit and suing her for the deed to Happy Trails Campground. Mae has embraced Normal and there’s nothing or no one going to take her campground. She’s determined to find the motorhome and return it to the owners before she hands over any deed to anyone.
Mae just might find out that tapping into her namesake just might come in handy when coming face to face with a serial killer.

Motorhomes, Maps & Murder is another great Camper & Criminals mystery. It’s always fun to revisit the hilarious characters of Normal, KY to see what mystery will surround them next. I loved the entertaining situations that arose when Mae interfered with Hank’s investigation, especially the scenes with Hank’s granny.
I voluntarily read and reviewed a complimentary Advance Reader Copy.
Another excellent, well written book from Tonya Kappes. Full of suspense, intrigue, and the humour we have come to expect. The characters in this series are all brilliant, and considered from multiple angles. I very much enjoyed this book, and was pleasantly surprised by the ending!
Really great! Even if i haven’t read (yet) the first 4books in this series i had to trouble to meet and come to enjoy Normal and its inhabitants. The southern charm is well present and the author is really talented to make us live it even if we are an ocean apart it’s really great cozy mystery with action, wonderful characters, well written intrigue and just the southern charm touch we have come to really love.
Mae is courageous and i really appreciate her, we learn that she had difficulties which are stories in precedent books ( like a dead husband) but it’s not like we are missing something. We have the right dose of information and background to understand and appreciate her , i will be very happy to read book 1 to 4 of course but i’m happy starting with this one.
Hank sound like the perfect knight, protective, funny and he cares for animals which is a big plus. i loved to see him with Mae and i’m curious of what will happen since it’s looks like they still have a lot to learn about and from each other.
The rest of the team is simply wonderful as well so i can’t really pick a favourite yet.
If you want a excellent cozy mystery set in the South , one that could work as stand alone but also offer you more this is the perfect one for you! You can jump into this one without having read any other in the series yet without regret.
3.5 stars
I enjoyed Tonya Kappes’ fifth installment in the Camper and Criminals Cozy Mystery Series, MURDERHOMES, MAPS, AND MURDER. In this installment, Happy Trails Campground owner Mae West finds herself dealing with a Civil War Battle Reenactment, an escaped serial killer, a stolen RV, and a mounting body count. The murder mystery is interesting, the quirky characters are always fun to hang out with (except I found Queenie really annoying while she was dealing with the reenactment), and the small town Kentucky setting is an ideal backdrop. MOTORHOMES, MAPS, AND MURDER is another strong entry in the series.
I received an ARC of this title from the author and voluntarily shared my thoughts here.
Mae can’t seem to have a boring day. Once again she and Hank are trying to find a killer. They are in for a few surprises. Love seeing how their relationship is progressing – such a sweet but funny couple. There were a few twists and turns that blind sided me – some I didn’t like – sad. Another good one in the series. Keep them coming.
Motorhomes, Maps, & Murder is the 5th book Camper & Criminals cozy mystery series. I have not read the others in the series but I didn’t feel as lost as I thought I might be.
Mae West lives in KY and was left a campground, Happy Trails by her ex thieving husband. The whole town is preparing for the Camp Wildcat Civil War reenactment. When her boyfriend and detective Hank Sharp is called away. They learn Greaser, a convicted murder has escaped jail.
Greaser used preacher Lester and his wife to escape. He is seeking revenge on the jurors that put him behind bars.
One of Mae’s guest has their RV stolen. If Mae does not recover the motorhome, she could lose her campground. To top it off 4 people in the reenactment do not get up off the battle field the it is over.
Will Hank get everything taken care of? Or will Mae and her friends step in as always?
A fun read that has a lot of twists that will keep the reader glued to the pages. The characters and setting were remarkable and you will fill like you are inside the book with the characters.
I would recommend reading the series in order.
There is never anything normal, in Normal, Kentucky, the setting for the 5th book in this really fun series. Mae West, the owner of Happy Trails Campground continues to find trouble and land smack in the middle of murder and mayhem. This is a wonderful read complete with an escaped murderer, a stolen RV, and just the right amount of humor injected in just the right places! All of the characters are so well developed that you don’t even need to read this series in order, (but if you haven’t read any, start here and read them all!), you will completely fall in love with all of them including hunky Hank the detective and the rest of the quirky inhabitants, and don’t forget, the characters you love to hate. Plus, there are lots of twists and turns as you would expect in any good murder/mystery, a great storyline that will keep you guessing…just a fun read guaranteed to hook you if your new and to satisfy any fan of cozies! I received an advance copy and this is my honest, unsolicited review.
It’s like reconnecting with old friends, abet ones who seem to have mystery and wild adventures on any normal day. The fifth in a series, Motorhomes, Maps, & Murder is ‘mmm’ good!
Motorhomes, Maps, & Murder is another exciting installment in Kappes’ Campers & Criminals cozy mystery series. Mae finds herself in the middle of yet another murder investigation when she agrees to participate in a battle reenactment. Then things go from bad to worse when Mae’s beloved campground is put in peril when she finds herself in the middle of a lawsuit that puts her ownership of her beloved campground at risk. Thankfully Mae has her boyfriend, Hank, and her group of loyal friends by her side as she tackles this latest murder mystery and does whatever it takes to save her campground.
This book is the second book that I have read in the series although it is actually book five in the series. I found that I was able to jump right in and get swept up into the story and in these characters’ lives. I had read the previous book so I was thrilled with the new dynamic between Mae and Mary Elizabeth. I am really liking seeing these two women form a family relationship now that they have dealt with their past. Kappes has done a great job at showing the growth and development of these two characters. I also loved seeing my favorite secondary characters back because they really add to the story and bring out the different sides of Mae.
The book’s mystery is well done full of many twists and turns. The book also has some humor and fun mixed in which is what I have always enjoyed about Kappes’ different series. This book can be read as a standalone, but I think that reading previous books would only add to the enjoyment of the book. Overall Motorhomes, Maps, & Murder is a great cozy read that I would most definitely recommend. I look forward to reading Mae’s next adventure.
Received a copy of the book from the author in exchange for my honest review.
Motorhomes, Maps, & Murder is the 5th book in the Camper and Criminals Cozy series set in Normal, Kentucky.
Springtime in Normal means the town is getting ready for the Civil War reenactment. A serial killer has escaped from prison, two murders have occurred and an RV is stolen from the grounds cot Happy Trails Campground. What else can go wrong??
Mae is certainly being kept busy.
Intriguing story, twists and turns with characters I have come to care about.
I received an ARC prior to publication and decided to voluntarily review it. Opinions expressed are my own.
Mae West and the Happy Trails Campground group are preparing for a Civil War reenactment and its after party. Mae even gets a minor role and gets to be up close to the action. She just never knew she would be up close and personal to a murder when several of the town’s people (involved in the reenactment) are found dead and a third in a coma. Two of the victims were on the same jury which convicted a serial killer that has just escaped from prison. Is he in Normal extracting his revenge? Mae has even more problems when a motorhome is stolen from the campgrounds and the owners are suing her for the deed to Happy Trails.
Mae is the perfect heroine and amateur sleuth in this series. She seems to have a knack at getting into the middle of trouble without even trying. The Laundry Club ladies are her perfect sidekicks and add humor along with insight into the Normal townsfolk. And who doesn’t enjoy her hunky detective boyfriend Hank?! He is a bit rough around the edges but is Mae’s protector and biggest fan.
I highly recommend the Camper and Criminals cozy mystery series as they are the perfect combination of mystery, humor, fun-loving and quirky characters, and madcap adventure.
Normal isn’t normal. There is some funny kind of characters there. When a man escapes from prison, several people are worried because he swore to get even with the members of the jury. Now he is running around the countryside and no one knows where he is. Mae and her friends are on the lookout for him and then someone steals a motorhome from Mae’s campground. Now she is being sued and could lose everything. Then there is the reenactment going on and 3 people are dead. Did the escapee do that, or is there someone else? Because the escapee is one of the dead. Hank keeps trying to get Mae to stay out of it, but she keeps uncovering clues. How can she stay out of it?
Motorhomes, Maps and Murder doesn’t disappoint. Once again I find myself wanting to have a cup of coffee with and join the Laundry Club ladies in solving the problems of Normal KY. That is one of things I like about this book and series is you feel like you could just step right in and be apart of this small town and people. If you add to that the mystery, southern charm, friendship, great characters and the setting you have a page turning winner.
Mae once again finds herself right in the middle of a murder and all the mishaps going on. She just has a knack for getting into trouble without even trying. Hank her police boyfriend has his hands full with keeping her out of trouble and danger while trying to investigate and solve the murders but that isn’t easy. Can they figure it all out before Mae gets in over her head or worse yet loses her campground or life?
This book had all the things I love a good mystery with side puzzles too, several suspects, strong characters, a perfect setting and a surprise ending. I couldn’t put it down and can not wait for the next book.
One of my favorite parts is when Mae gets arrested and when taken to the police station Hank’s grandmother Agnes starts arguing and trying to get the handcuffs off Mae. I laughed because I could just picture the younger policeman trying to endure her wrath. I so enjoy these character and can relate many of them to people I know like Queenie who with her my way or no way attitude reminds me of an Aunt of mine. This made the book so much more fun to read.
I love camping, history and small town living and this book includes all that and more. What a fun book and series you won’t want to miss.
What a fun cozy mystery. I like to read mysteries that have fun characters as well as a good mystery. Mae and her friends in Normal, Kentucky are having a civil war re-enactment that goes wrong with a couple of murders. Mae is dealing with personal issues such as a lawsuit but her and her friends try to solve the mystery. Maes burgeoning relationship with police detective Hank is fun and her interaction with the town is funny. It’s a good mystery with funny engrossing characters. I look forward to my next visit to Norma.
ANOTHER HIT!
MOTORHOMES, MAPS & MURDER (A Camper and Criminals Cozy Mystery Book 5)by Tonya Kappes is a another hit! This is my favorite series by this author and the storylines continue to get better with each book. The story is set in the town of Normal, KY and mostly at the Happy Trails Campground. Normal is preparing for the Civil War Re-enactment Battle at Camp Wildcat. What Mae and the rest of her friends (particularly her main man Det. Hank Sharp) should have been preparing for was the escape of a prisoner and the bizarre incident that would take place during the re-enactment that would forever remain in everyone’s memory. Along with that, Mae is having to deal with some irate campers who want to sue her over their camper being stolen not once but TWICE! Exactly what is going on at Happy Trails? Get ready & enjoy the fun that can only be found in Normal, KY! I was provided an ARC of this book by the author. The opinions expressed here are completely my own and without influence.
I totally enjoyed the fifth in this series. There is plenty going on in this story with an escaped convict, a historical reenactment, theft and of course murder. This is a page turner and keeps a steady flow going. I guessed part of the ending but Ms. Kappes threw in a curveball for good measure. I can’t begin to say how much I enjoy these characters and how they interact. It is so easy to picture the setting and makes you feel a part of it. I eagerly await the next in this series to revisit these characters.
There is the added bonus of some cleaning tips and recipes in the back.
*I was lucky enough to have received a copy of this book and this is my honest opinion
Motorhomes, Maps, & Murder is the 5th addition to the Camper & Criminals cozy mystery series. You can read as a stand alone mystery but I recommend reading all these books in order as you get to know all the characters and have a better feel of the town etc. If you are a kindle unlimited subscriber you can read this series for FREE.
Springtime in Normal means the town is getting ready for the Civil War reenactment. A serial killer has escaped from prison, two murders have occurred and an RV is stolen from the grounds of Happy Trails Campground. What else can go wrong??
The Laundry club ladies as well as the other quirky residents of Normal will have you smiling or laughing frequently throughout this Southern cozy mystery. I like the addition of Mary Elizabeth, Mae’s adopted mother, who means well, but her talkative nature can spill the beans. There is plenty of action and suspense throughout this series and I’m never disappointed.
I enjoy Tonya’s writing style as it seems to always draw me into the story and hold my attention until the end. I like the setting of the campground and the quaint southern town of normal with its off-beat characters. Growing up we did lots of hiking and camping in the Canadian national parks so I can picture the scene in my mind especially the way it’s described in the book. As a dog lover I enjoyed the addition of “Chester” a hunting dog to the story.
There are recipes and cleaning hacks at the end of the book. I look forward to returning to Normal in Canyons, Caravans and Cadavers.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced, unpolished, electronic copy of this book. I pre-ordered a paperback version to add to my collection because I enjoying the series so much.
Motorhomes, Maps, & Murder is the fifth book in the Camper & Criminals Cozy Mystery series by Tonya Kappes.
This is a fun series. Nothing is ever normal in Normal, KY.
There’s a Civil War re-enactment, a prison break, and mayhem at the Happy Trails Campground.
I love the friendships of the gals at the Laundry Club. They sure needed each other by the end of the book. I also enjoyed the progression of Mae’s and Hank’s relationship.
There was a good mystery. I guessed part of the ending, but there was a twist that I didn’t see coming.
I received this book as a gift and I am voluntarily reviewing it.
This is the first book that I have read in the A Camper & Criminals Cozy Mystery series. Mae West owns Happy Trails Campground in Normal, Kentucky and is dating detective Hank Sharp. In this book a serial killer has escaped from the jail in Normal and everyone in town is worried that he will make good on his promise to kill the people on the jury that convicted him. Also going on in town is a Civil War Reenactment of a battle that happened in Normal and many of the people in town are participating in it. There was a lot going on in this book between the reenactment and goings on at the campground which made for a fast-paced book that keep me interested in what would happen next. I can’t wait to go back and read this series from the beginning!
I received a complimentary copy of this ebook from Kappes Review Krew. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Another great installment from Normal, KY and the Happy Trails Campground. Fast-paced action right from the start with a prison escape, a stolen motorhome, several murders, and plenty of suspects. I love that Mae has a close circle of friends and now there are a couple more. The romance with Hank is a nice plus. Lots of twists and turns and just when you think you have figured it out, it comes out with a huge surprise that I definitely did not see coming. Looking forward to the next book. Definitely a favorite series. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy.
